A powerful buffing spell at the cost of damaging your own creatures. I think it's a tad too powerful, any ideas on how to balance it?

Well, the closest thing to compare this card to is rage potion, so lets try balancing it with that...
unupped:                                             upped:
Rage Potion:            BloodLust:             Rage Elixer:          Frenzy:
  3 :fire                        4 :fire                        3 :fire                   4 :fire
+5 atk                      +6 atk                     +6 atk                  +8 atk
 -5 HP                        -1 HP                      -1 HP                    -1 HP

In both cases, the potions can not be used to buff fire creatures (unless a lava golem is grown). Your card can be used to buff all fire creatures (except pheonix and golems),  and is better than rage potion in all aspects for a mere one more fire quanta. (Note that this isn't very good for CC, a major use of rage potion.) The damaging adjacent creatures is an interesting mechanic, but probably not as powerful because you only need a few creatures in a rush of this type. Overall, nice idea, but maybe raise the cost by 1 (unupped and upped).

You would love the burst damage of a 23 atk boosted dragon? Sure, lets make it easier to use amassed fire quanta and one shot the opponent. :-\

Who wouldn't want to see a 23/1? :-*

I didn't say anything about the balance of this card though. It's obviously similar to Rage Potion, and for that reason alone I can't imagine it ever becoming a real card, but even so it's a fine idea. If you used it as an attack buff it would mess up most Fire Creatures with the adjacent damage. It would also make your opponents creature hurt you much more and probably kill their other creatures slowly at best, if you used it as CC. Compared to the multifunctional Rage Potion, for a measly +1 extra damage (+2 upped) I would say this is way underpowered.

Depends on this "adjacent creatures" thing though. If there is a gap between the Bloodlust/Frenzied creature and the others, would it not hurt them? Because, it's very possible to kill your opponent just Phoneix—empty spot—Crimson Dragon—empty spot—Phoenix. I would guess that is the intention, and if so it could make it abusable.

Possible other uses:

Buff for 'Dive' Creatures
Buff for Vampires
Method to repeat-kill skeletons on your side of the field to fuel death-effects.

This is beginning to sound OP now...

It think the big issue is that this card is giving too big of an instant burst in attack damage without incurring a sufficient drawback to keep it balanced.

I would suggest dropping the attack power buff to 4 or 5 and making it damage all allied creatures (itself included).

E.g.: Target creature gains +5|-1 but deals 1 damage to itself all allied creatures each turn.

Alternatively, you could reduce the instant bonus more but act like a nerfed overdrive which also damages allies
E.g. : Target creature gains +3|+0. After each turn it will gain an additional +1|-1 and deal 1 damage to all allied creatures.

This could be very amusing in a voodoo deck.
