For Lionheart. The Ancient Equipment is as follows:



The Ancient Weapons have Endow, so if a Crusader endows it they can still endow the next Ancient Weapon, but the weapons cannot endow themselves. They can, however, endow each other if one of them is flying. The Ancient Tower Shield can take on the additional effects of the shields of its respective elements; it can absorb quanta to block damage, randomly poison on hit, deal 1 damage on hit, randomly freeze on hit, reflect spell damage, delay on hit, or block all damage that turn then destroy itself.

is this version of endow supposed to overwrite the previous effect or just keep on piling up abilities and stats each turn?

Much as with the usual Crusader endow, stats keep building up, but effects don't (except Momentum, which doesn't get overwritten when Endowing).

What happens if the 12 quanta cost cannot be paid? Does the effect simply not happen, or are there other consequences?

Much as if you can't pay Flooding's cost, AA blows itself up if you don't have enough quanta to support it.
