Basically, each turn one of your non-zero quanta pools gets picked. The quanta gets absorbed, and then an appropriate alchemy card gets placed in your hand.
Only pools with sufficient qunata will be picked. If the owner has no valid pools then the lab is destroyed (like flooding).
