Title: Hybrid Marks (Complete)

Making a Hybrid Card
1. Save the Background and Mark to your computer of the combo you wish to use.
2. open http://elementscommunity.org/tools/xenocidius/card/
3. select Custom on the drop down menu for element.
4. Load background
5. Load card icon
6. continue rest as normal

to use mark icon in cost line:
Code: [Select]

Mark names and Hybrid thematics can be discussed here. http://sync.in/HybridsDefined TheManuz and jacker did very good, but we need another person to take over.

Why is so many people interested in duo-cost cards? Didn't Zanz say it won't be added to the game because it would need a complete code change? Unless, well, you don't plan to use those marks for duo-cost creatures

                   Hybrid: cost = Any combination of :elementA and/or :elementB up to the total cost.
Hybrid would be easier to code than Duo imo.
Hybrids open up a bounty of potential themes and mechanics.
There is 66 Hybrid pairs.

In an nutshell:
Duo
- Is a card that costs something like "4 :water and 4 :darkness"
- Can only be paid with that exact amount.
- Would require a complete rewrite of the game's code for quanta.
Hybrid
- Is card that costs something like "Any combination of 4 :water or :darkness" (So I can pay this card with 2 :water 2 darkness , 1 :water 3 :darkness , etc...)
- Is essentially random quanta cost limited to 2 quantum pools.
-Would require you to just add a bunch of rows and columns to the current quanta 'table'.

People are interested in the idea because it's fun to design.

I've seen there are different naming conventions that were applied to these hybrid marks.
I personally felt that rather than just chose "something" random as name or some merged-word-creation it should just be a eventually combined noun, which sense reflects somehow both elements, like Demonfire - at least in my opinion - fits exactly the feeling of something dark+fire.
Of course it's difficult to find such a term for all combinations - especially for something so strange like :entropy+ :life :) - I tried for quite a while, but didn't find a good name, maybe our natives are better than me, who has to search in synonym dictionaries.. :D

Yep, sounds great.. especially since there are so many of those marks to do.
For sure we can work in parallel, but just for the case.. I'm working on death-time and will probably post it today or tomorrow.

Sorry I didn't read through all the dozens of pages of this project, just overread it quickly.
So why do the hybrid marks have names of half-bloods?
What about those that have no name in the list, still to invent something?

Watercorpse is very creative and funny :P Terofuze is coolness in person (along with demonfire) and Angel of Death is also very artistic. Not to forget the dreamweaver which is the strangest mark I've ever seen but still wonderful. :D

Ah, ok. i understand better. The only problem I could see coming up is that there are 16 directions and 12 shards. I'd either need to leave 4 shards out or find some way to include for other things/designs to make up for it. Or did you have some sort of idea in mind? I'm all for making new things.

I was talking with Et about the Entropy/Fire HB, we egreeded that he/she should be related to thermodynamics, Fusion powers and something like that, so, I thought that his/her spell should be related to the Laws of Thermodynamics:

Now that theses great artists are so close to completing the marks. It is time to reveal the the next phase of the project.  We will need background art. I have made some of these and I can help with this part. I will put what we have in the OP.

Profile -> Modify Profile -> Forum Profile -> Select 'Specify avatar by URL' -> Go to image you want -> Right Click -> Copy Image Location -> Paste it in the box that appeared after selecting 'Specify avatar by URL' -> Save

Same here - I like the second better, but I would try to change the saturation or contrast to intensify the colors a bit.

At least for me, I start with Kamietsu's great vector marks (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,6475.0.html), mix two together, remove or duplicate layers as necessary and apply my changes like on visibility, color and so on.

Thanks :) It's really not that easy to come up so many good mark ideas, but I'm trying and seems at least sometimes I succeed :D

We have been asked to separate the marks form the HB story, and I am okay with that. The marks are meant for card design. Now card that has the name of a HB character on them will belong to a Hybrid combo. A Hybrid combo most likely will not be Named after a HB character. I or someone of authority may start a new thread with a few marks at a time in the OP. Then take suggestions for the names and poll the given suggestions.

Yep, I usually pick the name from list that was posted here in the thread, if I don't come up with something.
Wrote it with question mark only because I was not sure if the concept of the mark matches that naming (even though it's close)
We could also name it just "solar system" or something like that.

You're right. I was basically only naming my concept for the mark (a flying fish, reflecting swimming through water and flying through the air - fits quite good, at least in my opinion), but doesn't mean it's also a good name.

We have anyway to review those names I think, currently they are a mix of very different approaches (composite descriptive nouns, HB naming or other word creations). Some names are quite cool though - anyway, as Tiger already said, reviewing the names could be a next step in the project.

..I like the first one of russianspy best lol .. just kidding, all three are good, I personally like the second of Kamietsu best, because it somehow reminds me of an evolving creature :D (which was also my idea for the mark - was already working on it, but since we already have three I'll discard this one)

And until they have a readily agreed upon names, retain the names given to them by mixing and matching the preset words as seen in-game.

I thought we invested all that time creating the hybrid marks to get them somehow implemented in the game.
To do so, we have to complete what is necessary for the duo hybrid marks (names, maybe card backgrounds, ..) and not leave everything incomplete halfway.
If we start with triples now, which isn't at all the target with which this project was started, we will never end this - at least that's my opinion.

yeah i know, i'm mostly kidding. i'll probably make a few more just for fun, but this project is interesting enough without delving into trios.

Also, I feel like some of the marks didn't get as much attention as others. It might be worth making some alternatives and seeing if people would want to swap in the newer ones. (Disclaimer: Yes, this is opinion, and yes, this is optional)

Since this topic contains artwork for card backings and marks, I think it would be a good idea have it stickied or make a stickied version, so that people can find and refer to it easily when making hybrid cards. I for one would find that very useful.

dont't wanna hold you back, but in my opinion the background should somehow capture the idea of the two elements, both differences and things in common, not just colors... is a purple sky so entropish?

I find the idea of a purple sky as representation of entrophy quite good - I mean, clouds are chaotic and form quite unpredictable structures in the sky in which we may, with a bit of fantasy, recognize cloud images.. what could ever be more random than that? :D

In order to implement these a hexadecimal format system would be needed to track. each combo as a separate element .
We would also need to have at least one card for each of the 66 combos.

I think all the elemental opposite card backs are in now (although a few of them seem to be experiencing issues with the image link).

Hmm... looks like aether earth has one already. Any other ideas where it could go?

Since I am able, I will try to keep this thread current as new background art gets suggested.
We are currently missing only 22 of the hybrid backgrounds. That means we are already 2/3 of the way finished!
Unfortunately, we do have several with bad links. If you have a copy of or know of a better link for one of the missing images let me know so I can update it.

That's probably the case. I've been working on getting all the broken links fixed and I think those were busted at one point.Everything should be working now.

I contacted dropbox to see if there was any way to temporarily restore the account.  Here is the response I got:

The reason I used photobucket was because if I decided to change something, I could just delete the file at the source and reupload, and all the places I had it embeded would automatically update.  Imgur autogenerates a random name and there is no easy way to replace an upload.

So far I have:

Fire-Water: Firequa
Light-Dark: Duality

If you're going off the AI4, life-death is Vittis. And the fire-water one would be Pyrius (possibly double 'r' there don't remember exactly).

The names weren't part of the images-- you should be able to look them up straight from the OP if you quote it and look at the [abbr] tags. For example, :darkness :gravity is Masow and :time :earth is Teronos
