Fractal "artwork" https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=42954.msg535361#msg535361
« on: August 21, 2012, 01:22:36 pm »
Spoiler for reason:
Long ago I was looking at the card art for "fractal", and as of what I know (correct me if I am wrong) it is not a fractal.
I just made this fractal formula, and I thought that the results was amazing when I made it into a graph.
Originally I was planning to use it as a profile picture (whenever I would make it to 200 posts),
but then I thought it would make grate card art for the card "fractal". I changed the colors around a bit and ended up with this:
Spoiler for scheme1:
Spoiler for scheme2:
Spoiler for fractal2:
Spoiler for Other Fractals (long list):
1:

2:

3:

4:

5:

Spoiler for formula1:
sin(imag(sin(sin(x+y*i)+x+y*i)+x+y*i))+sin(sin(sin(x+y*i)+x+y*i)+x+y*i-imag(sin(sin(x+y*i)+x+y*i)+x+y*i)*i)
Spoiler for formula2:
arctan(tan(imag(tan(x+y*i)+x+y*i))+tan(tan(x+y*i)+x+y*i-imag(tan(x+y*i)+x+y*i)*i))
Note that card art is not really my thing, but I did ask some friends who said it was a good idea.

Come to think of it, I really would like the Fractal card art to be an actual fractal.  But as with most things in the game, I'm not sure exactly how many players know what a 'fractal' really is.  So maybe trying to create a fractal that looks more like a spiral would look a little bit better.
And spirals look awesome! :D that's why I say that :P
And of course keeping the :aether color scheme is also important
cheers ^.^

Spirals do seem more attractive, I shall see what I can do.
I tried my best keeping the color scheme right, but the mathematics program I use have it's restrictions, I do however have another copy of the one I used now, with other colors, that might be more in the direction of what you are refering too, I will ad it to the op.

Seconding the "spiral it" idea. Also, use the second colour scheme.

I did my best making spirals, but what I am about to add is the best I could do for today. (I am by no means a fractal mathematics professional...)
About the scheme; I use noting but Nr. 2 at the moment :)

Lmao, Fractal has one of the best arts currently in game, and don't take it harsh, but it's not even close to be a nice art.
You know, a long time ago being crazy meant something. Nowadays everybody's crazy.

If you read the "reason" spoiler you would know that I do not want the art to change because it is not awesome, but because it is not a fractal(=infinitely detailed). This means that what I am trying to do is making it mathematically correct, without reducing the quality, it seams that in your opinion I have failed so far, but I will keep on trying until I get it right.

Also, I am not very good with image editors, so, anyone, feel free to edit any image I post here if you want.

Is the card art actually a fractal? No. Is the card art still pretty cool looking? Yes.
It's just a game, it doesn't have to be 100% accurate.

Well I certainly knew that, but I had nothing better to do, so I posted what fractals I had plotted here to see if anybody liked the idea, so far it seams like either you really dislike-hate it or you think it is a kinda good idea, but so far it has been going downwards so I fear the worst.

While yours might be a real fractal, it doesn't feel as aesthetically pleasing as the current one. Perhaps try spiraling.

I agree with this.
It is nice enough, but Fractal has very good art in game. Keep up the work, though! ^_^
