Very interesting. What does the back of your version of cards look like?

Interesting that you went with sharp corners and the reflection onto the bottom of the card.


I like it. It is more futuristic. I like the original card design too though.

The sharp corners take away from the image some. And I'm not crazy about that font at all. Im ok with the overall design, though I fear the text would begin to be hard on the eyes after awhile. I'd opt for a darker background where the text is, but I enjoy the reflection you included.

Also, I would include a soft transparent white background on the top of the card, going from side to side behind the card name and cost.

How would the upgraded card look?

Very nice! I kind of miss the card borders... but your idea looks clean and space/info efficient. I could imagine it implemented in
1) a "lite" version of the Elements client, for mobile devices, tablets or netbooks, where space needs to be fully exploited. (elementsthegame/lite)
2) an elements-like futuristic game (lol)

Well, Final Fantasy and similar games often offer multiple menu styles.  Of course all card designs should be true to the spirit of the game.  Personally, I would favor a more antique card look, with frills around the corners and such.  FFVIII's Triple Triad is somewhat of a good example of this.

Speaking of Final Fantasy... your card design looks like it could belong in the menu systems of a CRPG.
