VS. After thinking about this, I wanted to know your opinion on the issue: do you think cards should be allowed into the Crucible without any source of artwork? Or do you think that they should, provided permissions/etc.?
Here's a list of Pros and Cons of each:
Concept | PROS | CONS |
No Card art (just the card frame) | - Allows people to submit their card ideas to the crucible easier
- Avoids issues of copyright and potential art stealing
- Voting issues may dissolve based on aesthetic variables
- May lower art request spam in Card Art forum
| - Extreme possibility of Crucible/Card Design Competitions overflowing with ideas from everyone, even with table/card frame requirements
- May weaken interest in the CIA forums overall due to lack of visual attractions
- May weaken art requests and innovation due to lack of motivation to do art (why bother making artwork for a card that doesn't need it to begin with to level up?)
|
Card art (as it is now) | - Assists in filtering out ideas that don't have the fulfilled requirements to level up (card image)
- Teaches people about art usage for card ideas
- Provides members something visual to look at (not just a card frame, but the actual art itself)
- Motivates card creators to either search or make for their own art to advance the idea as much as possible
| - May slow down Curating/leveling process if artwork source is not defined or improperly taken
- Voting still affected in the Crucible from aesthetic variables
- Card Art child board will still get several spam posts of art requests
|
If you have something to add to the PROS or CONS of these lists, state so in your post.
The major point is this - we can allow more card ideas to enter the Leveling system without art (makes the job easier for Curators to move stuff up), but at the same time, the logistics of moving all these cards and managing the inflow of cards ideas would be greater than the outflow. In other words, if card art wasn't required,
a new process would be needed to handle the likely outcome of more ideas entering the Crucible/Forge/Armory than there are voters.
Simultaneously, with art, the requirements will assist in filtering 'uncompleted' ideas and also provide meaning to the Card Art forum (art classes, request topic, other card art tributes, etc.). With artwork, the process wouldn't have to be changed (as it is now), as cards move up at a reasonable pace throughout each level, all the while giving creators a chance to tweak their idea again if it fails to move up in time (you can redo archive ideas and resubmit them). Of course, people will still have issues of either 'finding' that perfect image, using artwork that
shouldn't be used, etc.
