Well, Final Fantasy and similar games often offer multiple menu styles.  Of course all card designs should be true to the spirit of the game.  Personally, I would favor a more antique card look, with frills around the corners and such.  FFVIII's Triple Triad is somewhat of a good example of this.

Speaking of Final Fantasy... your card design looks like it could belong in the menu systems of a CRPG.

Stole my thoughts on that one.  But yeah, implementing an alternate card display would be interesting indeed.  And how about having different cards display in the battle screen fighting each other?  Now that would be cool.

I actually like the card design a lot, seems more "modern".
The only thing that's really bugging me is the bold white outline around everything, perhaps try playing with that a bit? Maybe change it's color to a slightly lighter shade of blue than the card itself? I dunno, the white just pops out too much.
