Unstable Gas

The text from Unstable Gas reads:

"Inflict 20 damage to your opponent and one damage to all creatures on the field"

How come when I steal an unstable gas, and then try to activate it, it still deals me the 20 damage and not my opponent?

Are you sure they didn't have a reflective sheild? I don't recall having this happen to me

It shouldn't do that. I have 2 theories as to why this happened.

1) It was a bug. (I don't buy it, because it hasn't been reported before so far as I know.)

2) The opponent had a reflective shield out. This returns the damage back to you. Was it a or shield? If so, it may have been reflective.

Nope, it happens all the time to me when I'm playing against Octane, and he doesnt have a reflective shield in his deck

Unstable Gas is a permanent, artifact
it has an activate ability to deal 20 damage

WHY the reflective shields that "reflect all SPELLs" can reflect the 20 damage from an activate ability?
I don't make any sense.

That 20 damage is treated as spell damage. Otherwise Unstable Gas will be too OP, as nothing can block its damage.
