Accelarate Kills Phoenix [not a bug]

I was playing against a level 1 AI and they cast Accelerate on my unupped Phoenix.
I didn't really care as it would simply come back in a turn or two but then the ash didn't appear. Surely this can't be right?

No, this is intended. Phoenix has an active ability that allows it to turn into ash - acceleration replaces that ability with one that changes it's stats.

My Phoenix dealt 9 when it died, is that also intentional?

Yes. Acceleration increases the stats before the creature attacks, so it goes to 9|0, attacks and dies.

The card Acceleration replaces the creature's skill with Acceleration, which gives the creature +2 attack but -1 health when you end your turn. Unuppwd Phoenix has 7 attack, so when you end you turn it dealt 9 damage but lost 1 health, and since it cannot be reborn anymore because its skill was replace it would die.

Unuppwd Phoenix has 7 attack, so when you end you turn it dealt 9 damage but lost 1 health, and since it cannot be reborn anymore because its skill was replace it would die.

I just find that odd because as a non-spark creature with 0 hp, it should logically die before it can deal damage.

Why? Spark is no exception, they die after attack.
