Randomness [not a bug] https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=14444.msg183092#msg183092
« on: October 23, 2010, 09:21:28 pm »
This is a general problem Elements has. Randomness, or better: The absence of randomness. In a variety of situations this happens, and it keeps bugging and annoying me. As the problem with random values for shields is already common and everyone gets hassled just for mentioning the bug, I just want to report the one that annoys me the most: I've finally started playing - and winning - against the Top50 and the False Gods with my RoL/Hope deck, but there are always some decks you cannot beat. As for FGs, I always quit if I face Octan or Neptune, but recently I faced the same False God 6 times in a row! How can that be? And why do I always play against the same decks from the T50? I played against srijan's deck like 18 times already and there is no end in sight..

This is either really messy code or the developers of Elements try to piss people off as much as possible. I hope I'm right assuming it's the first possibility, and if that's so I'd suggest implementing Mersenne Twister. I have used it before and I was totally satisfied with the result. All I want is to play against a variety of enemies. Right now I could just change my deck to something that works the best again srijan's deck, because it's not going to change anways.

Cheers,
ArtCrusade

I see no relation between randomness, game understanding,  and deck efficiency. Absence of randomness? Seems you never played with a mono  :entropy

This is a general problem Elements has. Randomness, or better: The absence of randomness.
wait what?

I've finally started playing - and winning - against the Top50 and the False Gods with my RoL/Hope deck, but there are always some decks you cannot beat.
It's supposed to be that way. Every deck has its strenghts and weaknesses.
So, tell me my friend, what can you see? What comes into your mind as you breathe?

Simple answer- reload the game.

Sometimes the game gets into a rut and simple resetting usually fixes the rut.

If you didn't understand what I said the first you read my post, please consider reading it a second time. I don't want to repeat everything

It's supposed to be that way. Every deck has its strenghts and weaknesses.
I didn't say it should be different. You seem to lack understanding; that sentence is directly related to the sentence after.

Simple answer- reload the game.

I've tried that already, but the problem remains. In 90% of all cases I'll face srijan's deck.

First of all, don't blame the developer (note, singular) for your horrible luck.

Second, facing the same guy in t50 could have to do with something about score being submitted multiple times.

Also, try game suggestions and feedback, because this is obviously not a bug.

If your deck loses to the same opponent repeatedly, that opponent becomes more frequent.  That's why you should never auto-quit a winnable fight.

I read your post a few times. Hopefully I didn't miss anything.

Wow, if I were a game developer the first thing i'd do is make playability a living hell.

Ending your complaint with an insult to the (only) developer is no good if you want to be taken seriously. I mean, when I ask favors to people IRL, the LAST thing i'd try is to insult them.

Alot of people complain about the shield issue, but the truth is... they don't explicitly say "count all your creatures and divide randomly by %". So everything's coherent
As for the opponent thing, we all have good and bad luck.
So, tell me my friend, what can you see? What comes into your mind as you breathe?

@Gl1tch: Didn't know that. That explains some things.. but not my endless srijan-rampage, because I've won every single match, and I don't think it's the way ddevans96 explained. It was the same guy on the same rank with the same deck.

@ddevans96: Who is to blame if not the developer?

@asymmetry: How was that an insult? I just thought about an option and declared it to be not the case, if not that strongly, at least hopefully. And I was not complaining about the shield issue.

Right, but if /other/ players are continually losing, he'll get more popular.

Zanz said it.  You're like twice as likely to meet dark matter as you are to meet Paradox.
