is this a bug?
if i animate morning star, it remains immaterial. but other immaterial weapons loose their immateriality upon animating?

Isn't a bug, the animate weapon card targets the spot rather than the actual card so if it was protected it becomes mortal again where as morning star is normally immortal so animating it it remains so.

This was one of the first things I tested with flying weapon long ago. To me its so very counter intuitive that weapons protected by Protect Artifact loses the immortality. Momentum and burrow etc follow a creature when it hatches or is copied etc.

The only reason I can see for removing the PA'd immortality would be that it somehow was too strong. I just cant see in which way, immortality can be dealt with quite easily when its on a creature.

Immaterial is skill of the morning star so it stays on it.
But if you use protect artifact on weapon, it is status (like adrenaline) which dissappear if the weapon is animated.

Animate weapon actually destroys weapon in the weapon slot and creates Creature Weapon on the field

We know its says so on the card and because of that it follows over. It has already been clarified in the thread. Dont bring in adrenaline! It cant be targeted on a weapon in the box, moot argument.
"Creature Weapon" is a term of your own. Its a creature like any other.

First of all Flying weapons couldn't destroy it if it is protected (compare destroy ability and deflag) also, No, flying weapon does not target the weapon it targets the weapon box. This is the widely accepted truth which is told to anyone who disagrees or wants to discuss this.
However, this is all false because you cant play flying weapon on an empty weapon box. If it truly targeted the box it could be used without a weapon and nothing would happen (if the box was empty).

All in all the terminology fails and we are back at square one. Its all about programing ie what Zanz thinks should work and shouldn't work. Which gives (for some) the question WHY.
As in
"why is flying weapon allowed to target protected weapons" and
"why is only morningstar/morning glory allowed to bring that onto the table."

For other who don't care Its just like with belief, he willed it and so it is.

------ Related rant
All comes down to what I've said "what Zanz thinks should work and shouldn't work". You cant expect anything to work as previous experience tells you it should based on earlier usage.
This is the second problem elements have. There is no underlying foundation of basic mechanics you can rely on.

People are waiting for one but it appears it will never happen. We will, at some later time, have more cards and a JUNGLE of things that SHOULD work but DOESNT because the underlying mechanics is not fitted into rules. Cards and effects are added and coded to work according to how Zanz wants them to work. Not to fit an architecture which enables people to logically deduce how a card will work out with other cards.

PS If you think this is whining or that I dislike the game, all i can ask is, do you think I would have spent 6 months+, getting 2200+ cards, hosting tournaments and chatting on something that is not to my liking?

I agree with this part of your post and made a similar appeal in a topic about the many different types of invulnerability.
