It may be because they are still in the trainer, but Water Nymphs still are treated strangely by the AI. Their ability says undefined when used, they try to reproduce like Malignant Cells (and did!), and they keep using their ability until there's no quanta left, even if they filled all the spots long ago.
EDIT: They can also use Nymph's Tears when all slots are filled.
