[Unconfirmed] Arena opponent health https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=28954.msg369716#msg369716
« on: July 22, 2011, 09:13:10 am »
Hello everyone.
Long time player here posting for the first time.

Since the Arena update I'm experiencing an odd bug from time to time and I need advice from someone.

When playing in the Arena:

1) Rarely opponent max health is at 1 which leads to 1 turn wins. (had this about 10 times since the update).

And today I've just got this:

2) Opponent started at ~20 hp. Got win in 2-3 turns. Got 1100+ electrum as reward!

This happens only with Arena battles.
I'm not sure what the problem is but I stopped playing for now.

I'm aware of memory tweaking cheaters out there and I don't want to be considered as such even accidentally.
I hope you can understand my concern as I'm playing with 2+ year old account.

I'm running firefox 5.0 under win xp sp3.
I can provide list of installed extensions or any other additional info.

Any advice?

Not a bug.

As Arena decks age, they lose HP at an exponential rate (going down to a minimum max HP of 1).

You were probably fighting one of the top 5?

Not sure.

Are you saying that arena deck that aged down to 20 hp was still in the top 5?

The reward is not affected by your opponent's max HP. It is, however, affected by their ranking. They could've maintained a high-ranked winrate with 80ish HP before going to 20ish the next day.

Hmm.

Is there a place where I can read how rankings affect the rewards?

P.S. flagging thread as "not a bug" now.

If you finish your opponent in less than 5 turns you always get huge rewards. It's happened to me twice

I don't believe it's been stated officially yet, but this seems to be correct unless something's changed recently:
From my experience:
The question marks are after guesses that I haven't observed myself.

Playing 1st place: 10x
Playing 2nd place: 8x?
Playing 3rd place: 6x
Playing 4th place: 4x?
Playing 5th to 9th place: 2x
Playing 10th place: 2x? 1x?
Playing 11th to 500th place: 1x

The rewards also go up if you have a top deck. I'm not sure the scale is the same, however, since I have had a #3 deck only gain 3x electrum instead of 6x.

I feel I should throw my 2 cents in here: I don't doubt that at least some of the arena decks starting with 1hp are awesome decks that have decayed drastically, and are still there because they haven't lost enough times yet compared to their wins. However, I have also had normal opposing arena decks get a max hp of 1 mid way through matches, on multiple occasions.
It seems to happen as I finish turns, because I only see the change in the health bar for a fraction of a second before insta winning (though there was one instance where it may have happened in between me playing a card and pressing end-turn, I’m not sure). I haven’t noticed any unusual payouts. Indeed, last time it annoyingly did it after I’d carefully frozen some of my own creatures to ensure an elemental mastery through healing shards, only to have the opponent die at the first hit and give me half the intended payout :/ .
I may have to start hovering my finger over print screen when I end turns to try and catch it in the act.

If I may guess, you were playing a deck at around 11:59 PST and the deck actually aged WHILE you were playing it. Not in any way confirmed, just a suspicion.
