Mutant with guard

I was battling someone in Silver League, when he got a mutant with guard. When he used its effect on one of my creatures, instead of it just being stalled, it died (which I believe may have been because of the original effect of guard).

I kill you. If the mutant had any attack, and use Guard on a creature, Creature Using Guard's Attack -> Damage on Targeted Creature.

...unless, of course, that creature is airborne.
