It is because Acceleration | Overdrive replaces their active skill, which allows Phoenixes to turn into ash. Just like a lobotomised Phoenix can be killed.

"Phoenix" is unfortunately an active skill
so things like LS, OD, and other spells that can replace active skills will eliminate the reborn property of the phoenix
