Death Nymph > Ability > Cancel > Gone https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=19532.msg248056#msg248056

Hi,

I found a bug. This happened many times, so I'm certain this is a bug.

You know how you can acivate an ability or try to use a card, but then you realize you wanted to do something else first? Then, you can click on "cancel" as long as you have not used the spell/ability.

When I click on Death Nymph to acivate its effect and click on cancel, the game treats it as if the ability was used. So, I basically lose out for nothing when I didn't use the effect. I am not sure if this is just Death Nymph or if it's the same for other nymphs.

This occurs with activated abilities.  It stinks but just try to be careful.

It won't be fixed because it's not broken. It's intended to work that way to prevent abuse. I don't recall the exact reason for the abuse. But Don't expect to be refunded from card abilities ever, or at the very least, any time soon.

Yes it's an important fact to note especially if you're using retrovirus!

You mean just Virus. Retrovirus automatically infects all opponents when clicked, thus there's no worries about cancelling the ability. It would suck though if you click it when the opponent has no creatures.

I used that to kill my Virus if I just wanted the Death effects when I was toying with a death deck :D

Basically, it's just a 'that's too bad, why did you do that in the first place?' thing, use the targeting active abilities carefully...

WRONG! That's a terrible rumor that has existed for a very long time. Zanz shot this down a couple of patches ago:

Players with slow CPU's managed to activate a creature skill, play a card and use the "cancel" button in a rapid sequence to re-use cards in an infinite loop.

In 1.25, after using a creature skill, a 1/10 of a second pause is added (same as the one used for playing a new card). It is the time required for the script to complete its function, during that time a new command (another creature skill, card, etc.) can not be used.

P.S. : this is also the reason why creature's skills do not have a "real" cancel option; giving back the cost of the skill would create a huge array of fast click combos and it would force me to make the UI much less fluid to keep control of all the possible exploits.
It is not because, as commonly believed, I am punishing the player for a bad choice. I said something similar once in the flash forum, but I was joking, and someone mistakenly left his sarcasm detector in the microwave while nuking a smurfberry pop tart.

lol @ nuking a smurfberry pop tart.
But in reality, from an amateur programmer's point of view, zanz has a solid point. The more fluid the UI is, the less frustrated the player is likely to get, the less frustrated the player is likely to get, the more likely the player is to continue playing the game. The same goes for the possible exploits, you'd be surprised at some of the things that can be taken advantage of in flash games.
