Full Hand vs. Card Death

i've had a game just now where my opponent filled my hand with the card-drawing shard. this resulted me in having 8 cards in hand and 0 cards in the deck.

now, even though i was unable to draw a card at this point, because my hand was already full, i still lost the game due to having no card in the deck, which seems wrong in my eyes.

Edit: to clarify, i lost the game at the beginning of my turn. not during the playing of the shard.

How exactly did they fill your hand with it, considering the only card that does that is Nightmare and it does that to creatures, not spells?

Shard of Bravery draws cards.

Testing in trainer shows that this happens with nightmare as well.

EDIT: Also, I was the one casting the spells, unlike the OP who had them cast on him. So, the situation is symmetrical.
