The Skull Buckler (and maybe the Skull Shield too) seems to block not only one point of enemy damage to you but also one point of your damage to the enemy.

This was observed in the Trainer, so it may or may not apply to the official game.

Yes, this is a bug with the trainer. I'm not quite sure on the specifics of the bug other than your shield affects your own creatures as well. Is there anything more to it, like which shields are affected?

I'm pretty sure all shields are effected by this bug.
