I have on more than one occassion in the arena noticed that my opponent's life points start at over 100 and then after my first turn their life points go suddenly to below 50.  Thanks.

This is because The Quanta Pool and health from the previous battle stay there until the coin flip is completed. Arena opponents hp lowers over time and that is why it can be below 100 (sometimes as low as 1)

The red HP bar that you see as the Stamina upgrade bar only acts as the base HP, and doesn't show the actual starting HP.

Starting HP = Base HP - 2^(age)

The age decay causes Arena opponents to have a declining number of HP as they age.
