"Burrow" has no effect on the hatch/mutate part other than it does not go away when you hatch/mutate.

If it wasn't such a hard bug to replicate, I would gladly post a screenshot. The first time I was unprepared, but I assure you, next time I get a burrowed mutant with hatch, you'll have your 2 screens as demonstration.

Its quite a gamble, but using improve on particularly annoying enemy creatures is not an entirely unsound strategy.
