Title: Adrenaline
Post by: xsindomanx on May 06, 2013, 01:02:07 am
I tried searching, thinking that somebody must have already posted this, but I couldn't find it and decided to just post it.

As you can see, adrenaline is used on every nymph except every second nymph on the top and bottom columns.

The game went on for a few more turns and the AI ended up not using adrenaline on the remaining nymphs.

Bug or no?

This is AI derp, but then again, adrenaline against SoSac is a dumb move.

Not a bug. Probably an AI hiccup. Then again, it might be because you have SoSa up. If you have SoSa up, the AI will try to not add more damage as it'd increase the amount of healing you'd get.

It's not related to SoSa. I had sundial / Sosa chained after turn 3, and generally it seems quite improbable that those specific nymphs were missed by accident.

I seem to have an incorrect definition of a 'bug'. Where's the line drawn between an 'AI fail' and a 'bug'. Aren't those two the same thing?

I've seen Lionheart (the FG) do the same thing where he doesn't Quint 1 or 2 creatures for no reason at all, so I think it's just AI being stupid.

Well if you were chaining SoSac it'd avoid adrenaline. If you used sundial, it should have cast it.

AI fail is something that can be fixed by tinkering the AI. AI fails are things that can theoretically be completely avoided if the AI was replaced by a thinking human being who didn't derp.

A bug is something that is unexpected with game mechanics, like if you cast explosion on your opponent's shield and they suddenly take hp damage, or if you played a creature and it used up wrong quanta. Bugs are unintentional errors that don't have to do with the AI. Even if the AI was replaced by a perfect player, bugs are things that still aren't supposed to happen.

If you look carefully, the AI has adrenalined every nymph up from slots 1-14, and none after that. Thus, the ones "missed" are not in the middle look they appear, but actually at the end of the group. This fits with the theory of the AI buffing under sundials and holding back under SoSac, resulting in it not finishing the whole field. If it had skipped one of the nymphs to cast it on a later one, that might suggest some sort of problem. As things are, it appears that the AI was simply in a no-win situation, and chose to lose in a slightly different manner then a human would have.
