I just ran into this for the first two or three times today. It's very irritating; it just lost me a few potential chances at a purple shard, for example. I intuitively thought that it was due to clicking too quickly, but after reading others' posts, I will pay attention next time I get bonus spins and click slowly, and see what happens.
