I just had a game against a queen-firefly-spam and very early had an Ice Shield.

The game went for about 10-13 turns and there was not a single enemy creature frozen by it!

I don't want to bluntly say: "Buff this card!"

I'm just curious about your experiences with the Ice Shield and maybe if there is a difference in chance between this one and other shields that either have a %-chance or say "small chance" (like bone shield)

As far as I know, the Bone Shield's percentage is based off the HP of the creature (a 0 HP creature has 100% chance of becoming a skeleton), and then the chance goes getting lower as the HP goes getting higher; unless the Ice Shield is based off the same idea (Which I think it isn't) it's not a good idea to compare both.

Also, if this is just for discussing the shield percentage it would probably be better in general discussion rather than Buff This Card, but maybe that's just my understanding.

On the note of my experiences, every time I fight against Ice Shield I get all of my non-momentumed creatures frozen eventually.

I can recall a well writen post about the chances of ice shield freezing stuff and total Dmg reduction. Iirc it is proportional to creatures HP and averaged top2 shield in dmg reduction after Dim. Cannot seem to find it though, maybe got lost in the forum transfer?!

I owe one of my marks to this shield, so I don't think it is UP :P. One thing you can do is use it together with freeze or squids to get the job done faster (and mak your regular sacrifices to the RNG gods).

I think I'm right in saying that ice shield has a 30% chance to freeze for three turns. I remember reading somewhere that this gives it a more or less 50% block rate, with damage reduction. Seems pretty strong to me ;)

47% to be precise, and that's NOT counting the DR. That means it's the best normal (non-growing, material, non-timer) shield in the game, and has always been. Buffing it would be short of insane. The chance to freeze is 30% for any creature, but they do need more than 1 attack to be affected for obvious reasons.

You were unlucky during one game. Most games you'll find it shuts down creature spam decks incredibly hard. Please gather actual arguments instead of anecdotes and check your facts before making threads like these. Thank you.

While fireflies and firefly queens and such are too strong to have this matter, just in case the opponent was also spamming rustlers or dragonflies or whatever, keep in mind that creatures with power lower than or equal to the damage reduction of the shield they're attacking won't actually attack and therefore won't ever be frozen. So, if their field was full of creatures with 1 power, that would be distorting what you were seeing in terms of overall freeze rate.

Also, if they had shards of freedom, those can allow flying creatures to completely bypass shields, which would also result in few to no actual freezes.

That said, though, still just bad luck on all the >1 power creatures (assuming no shards) like higu said.

Assuming there was only one creature that could have been frozen. The odds of this happening by chance are between 1% (13 turns) to 3% (10 turns). So its either an insane amount of bad luck (the odds get slimmer as you add more creatures) or Shard of Freedom (which is really common in a FFQ deck). Please note that 4 Shards of Freedom are equivalent to momentum + quintessence (for your opponent only) + 150% attack to all :air airborne creatures.

The well-written article mentioned before: wiki

Also:

Buffing it would be short of insane.

Well said.

it should be mentioned on the text of the card "attackers will freeze 30% of time" instead of "attacking creatures might freeze".
It's roughly the same number of characters, but it's way more clear:)

Ice shield is why i carry a "steal" in my deck.
