2 :water for a 2/4
5 hp would make it invulnerable to otys which costs 5 :gravity
this way both have a chance to kill or pacify one another
a +1 boost to attack doesn't make much of a difference so a 3/4 for 2 :water would be fine aswell

the card is already overpowered, lobotomize is one of the most powerful abilities in the game, rendering most creatures all but useless.

So the attack and hp stats are there for decoration? Consider the fact that the cost of most creatures is centered around their stats. Reconsider. Reconsider one more time, and then you'll hopefully have figured it out.

stat wise the card is fine, given that it has one of the most powerful abilities in the game, really, the unupped should cost 2 aether, the upped one should cost 1. this card should be easy to kill, by almost anything, because otherwise it will just be too powerful overall. you cant always apply formulas, sometimes you have to look at the big picture. anyway, jmho.

Actually the Skill Value is the center of a card. Cost, Attack and Hp are built up around the Skill Value.
(This is only for Major Skills like Psionic Wave and Growth. Creatures with only minor skills like Airborne or Web are based around Attack then Cost,HP)

Sorry to disappoint all of you, but actually the cost of a card is centered on its artwork.
Artwork then again determines the stats of the card.
I strongly urge you to think this through again  .... and again ... and again and maybe,
just maybe, you will understand.

Reasoning:
Zanz picked many of the original images from Spore. Therefore, the art came first.

Art of the card determines the name of the card. From there, around the name of the card, you develop a theme.

Around this theme a mechanic is built, and then that mechanic is balanced through stats and costs.

Therefore, the Cost and Stats of a card are based on the artwork ::)

So we are fighting with 'art'?

So put a crappy image!
It will cost less to play!

Yes, let's change it to something like the standard Chimera artwork. Then we can buff it to -100 :water cost.

Perhaps a decrease to 2 :water and increase to 5 HP (compare: Maxwell's Demon). Not because of resistance to Elite Otyugh, though - if it comes out before it it can resist it anyway.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

Its balanced. You have to pay more quanta to play a cooler looking card.

But seriously, I think increasing mind flayer's cost to 3 :water seemed like a better idea to me considering its ability is one of the better ones. This in turn will indirectly buff ulitharid since the unupped one is no longer cheaper/preferable.
