Basic Immortal is in the top half of Card Usage even with variance
but the upgraded Immortal hasn't even had enough use to counter variance.

The Basic seems fine. Lets look at reasons why the Upgraded version is not being used and a method to improve that card.

A modification that would give the Elite Immortal either more usage or show a non internal reason is the cause for the decrease in usage when upped:

do not like at all. it needs a more solid buff that increases it's attack. i think that's the main issue here.

This^ underestimates the value of immateriality especially in the unupped version.

Casting Cost: 6 :aether|5 :aether
Attack: 4|4
HP: 3|4
Would be fair and still require additional quanta for the immateriality. We should not want to give Aether a superior advantage with better creatures. We seek balance not superiority.

but at the moment there is imbalance. this card needs a sturdy buff preferably in it's attack. only shields can directly affect it's play and 1 of those can't even damage it. there is no need to buff it's hp at all

Reducing its attack would give it less value per card played. Aether has always been about card advantage, and reducing the attack would actually make it even less used and particularly even more overshadowed by Elite Phase Dragon.

Cost logic aside, you still have to look at how practical cards actually are. The calculation can make 100% sense, but the card itself still won't be used if it's overshadowed. That's why -1 cost or +1 attack are the only changes I can see making this card more used.

overshadowed is a good word to use. atm elite immortal is most likely used less than phase recluse which has both lees health and is NOT immortal. the elite immortal is supposed to be an iconic card to aether and at the moment it rather disappoints. buffing it's attack is the only viable option.
