[Official] Dissipation Shield | Dissipation Field https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=43713.msg1002988#msg1002988
« on: September 26, 2012, 09:48:27 pm »

I believe that the description makes the card much too powerull in stopping things (it says that you absorb damage from a source for quanta, which means from any element) instead, i believe that it should absorb 5 damage for 1 :entropy
this card, in its current form, is even less helpful than the unupped version (Dissipation Shield)

It may look weak, but compare this side-by-side to Quantum Pillar and Amethyst Pillar and things will make a lot more sense:

Notice how Quantum Pillar generates 3x as much quantum as a normal pillar? The shield adjusts to compensate for that.

dis shield is 3 damage blocked for 1 :entropy. Changing it to 5 for 1 :entropy would probably make it OP. Dissipation field is balanced because a QP and a entropy pillar both allow for up to 3 damage to be blocked at the expense of the same amount of quanta generated. Dissipation field is slightly better than dissipation shield since there is nova and supernova in the game, as well as diss field getting an advantage if the opponent only had 2 atk creatures.

Side note:
The upgraded version was the original version of the shield. When Upgrades were introduced (something about version 1.0 ,I think) , it became the upgraded version.

The card is fine: 3 random quanta absorb 3 damage <-> 1 :entropy absorbs 3 damage

I feel like this needs a buff, mostly because of the fact that it IS "fair".  There is no upgrade "bonus", its strictly the same.  Plus, I feel like if your going to put in diss shield/field, its going to be in a specialized deck, and I think it's probably easier to make a more effective entropy mono/duo stall than it is to make a rainbow one.  Rainbows are less reliable when you look at it.  However, I'm not sure how to buff it without changing the mechanic, changing it like in the suggestion seems like a bad imo, it would be OP.

I mostly agree with Laxadarap. Unlike (most) other shields, especially dissipation field needs 'its own deck'. Otherwise it just consumes the quanta you'd like to use for your other cards. So its more of a disadvantage. Unless you don't build a deck around it with a huge amount of pillars its only use I see is in late game when you need those one or two more turns to survive and kill your opponent. And even then it's not said that the opponent doesn't have pc up his sleeve. In fact, I have never seen anyone use that shield except maybe SoSe was played and the situation requires some stalling.

How do you change the text 'hidden' when using a spoiler?
spoiler=herpdaderp/spoiler

Do that with brackets around the "spoiler" and "/spoiler"

I agree completely with Laxa. Another thing is that Diss. Field destroys your quanta pool, and you can't play shit unless you're trying to stall.

Dissipation field has the advantage over disspiation shield in that it uses 1 quanta for 1 damage instead of 1 :entropy for 3 damage. A 2atk creature takes away 1 :entropy (an entropy pillar's worth), but only 2 :rainbow (a QP's worth). This means that diss field will allow the user to come out ahead most times. Diss field also has the advantage of nova and supernova to act as instant quanta for up to 12 or 22 damage blocked ( 2 :entropy for +22hp basically). There is no card that gives a user instant 4 or 7 :entropy.

I think the upgrade needs no change to it's current form except a cost decrease. It's not hard to make an entropy deck that can easily use the shield, but making a rainbow deck that can effectively use the field can be a little difficult, considering the quanta problems they already face. Lowering the cost of the field would make it a little more useable in a rainbow deck.
