Not that I'd want to press for just another change because we need to get going here,
but if the event is ever repeated I think it should be:

-Round 1:  n/a (9 Champions to win)
-Round 2: 8 Champions to win.
-Round 3+: 7 Champions to win.

or even

-Round 1: 8 Champions to win.
-Round 2+: 7 Champions to win.

Reason: Budokan is supposed to be medieval Japanese-themed ...
If you have ever seen Japanese Bushi-movies (or know a bit about Japanese martial arts),
sudden death is what adds the flavour to them:

Even experienced warriors die, sometimes in masses, within the blink of an eye.
The dueling-art of Iai is foremost about "drawing the sword" ... a whole rock-paper-scissor system
exists to decide a sword-duel in the very moment the blade is drawn. A matter of seconds.
Budokan is also a dueling event and not a battle simulation.

If a team displays extraordinary "skill" and finishes quickly with all contestants winning their duel,
be it in the first or second round, it should be rewarded accordingly.
After all, it really isn't all that likely to happen.

personally, i'd agree with jangoo
this event oozes flavor and if that means abrupt finish in the style of budokan, so be it

BUT

as a PvPO, i have to disagree
regarding PvP Events time span, normally you'll want an event that last between 4 to 8 weeks
anything longer needs to be trimmed down for many reasons and anything shorter should probably be tweaked and submitted as weekly tourney idea instead

the biggest issue here is that with the previous ruling, theres that possibility that you wouldnt even get to battle before getting knocked out in the first round
as much as the spirit of budokan is "in the moment", you are still going to invest some time to prepare your decks and strategize
to see all the efforts go down the drain before it can even be put to the test tend to make people unhappy and thats not what we aim to achieve here

Actually Tstar, as a technicality, it is theoretically possible to win in 1 round, should one or more aides become champion due to the lack of a fight between the others.  But nonetheless it still makes it difficult.  Sorry, I have a bad habit of nitpicking things.

Anyways, at least Squad Two has only one aide; so close yet so far away to winning.  I prefer this type of playstyle, as the opponent never becomes overpowerful when it means most.  Anyways, back to playing the waiting game.  :(
Rule #1: The Captain is never wrong.  Rule #2: If the Captain is wrong, refer to Rule #1.

Very, very disappointing new rule change.

The entire point of this event for me was that winning when you have a very low Aide count will be hard, thus it would be hard to actually finish Stage 1 when you're up ahead. Just ending an entire stage is.... disappointing.

Kinda lost my appetite for this event... it was so much fun building these decks.

Yeah ... sucky rule-change for loads of reasons.

Why again does the tourney "need to end and get to stage II" already ?

Apparently other events are lined up to start but this one is taking to long.

Ideally an event should take about a month to finish, so it's decided this one should start wrapping it up more quickly..

Well if you guys have better ideas i'm certainly open to it. I can extend it to Round 9 or possibly 10 if you guys like but the event does need to end sooner then later.

The impetus for this rule change did not come from MrBlonde independently.  I approached him yesterday and requested that he begin to develop an endgame for Stage I as it has taken far long than originally envisioned.  I presented him some a few options for him to consider, but gave him the choice to either select one or come up with something else of his own design.  The solution he's worked out is something I feel it fair to everyone as it gives every squad one last shot at the champion in each element.

I just want to make it very clear again that MrBlonde is not the bad guy here.  He would have most likely been happy to extend Stage I out as long as necessary.  He is unfortunately caught in the middle of the new focus on keep event lengths down which essentially forced him to make these changes.  I understand the frustration and disappointment from everyone, but we are trying to keep events to a 30 days timetable and we are already going to go past that in Stage I even with the changes.  MrBlonde is in the same position as the rest of you, so don't blame him.  If you really need someone to blame or throw darts at then look squarely at me and fire away.

On that note, I'd like so say I am strongly opposed to extending this out to 9 or 10 rounds unless it is an absolute necessity.
Carpe Diem!!

So more of a clarification than a question.

If I win this round, and no squad wins, I go on to the elite set. If I lose this round, and no squad wins, then me and TStar face off using the previously stated rules.

Right?
You're just as selfish as I am. You're just not as good at it yet.

Right?
First for you to move on these things need to happen.

a) team 3 has the most champions this round
b) team 3 ties team 1 or 2 with champions. If that happens i will add the cumulative wins and losses from the champions from each team. Whoever has the best record will move on. If that's a tie then the players with the best records from their respective elements will move on. If there is a tie a 1 round sudden death match will be played within 48 hours to move on.

So basically you cannot lose to Tstar.
