Time until voting for Round 3 ends:
Time's up!

How to vote
All you have to do to vote in Brawl #7 is to follow these 3 steps!
Note that unlike the previous Brawl, Brawl participants are allowed to vote.

1. Read
Read through all the submissions below to see what you actually want to vote for. Be sure to not accidentally miss one!

2. Decide
After reading, decide how you want to vote. Remember, you have 10 voting points ('voints') to split up between teams for each task. If you really like two of them but not the others, you could vote 5-5-0-0. Or if you have a clear ranking in mind, you could vote 4-3-2-1. Or split it up in any other way you want. The only limits is that you cannot give more than 5 voints to any one team, and you have to spend all 10 voints on each task you vote on. Any votes that do not fulfill these conditions will not be counted.

3. Vote
Go vote here! (Voting tool made by UTAlan)

4. Write (optional unless Voting Panel)
Write a post in this topic where you tell the rest of the community why you liked who you liked (Or why you didn't like who you didn't like). You have to give at least some reasoning for your vote on whatever team you gave the most voints, but feel free to give some feedback to all teams if you want! Be sure to not reveal your exact votes to anyone, to help avoid strategic voting. You are supposed to tell who you liked and why, but not how you spent your voints. This will however be revealed at the end of the voting, together with the totals to see who actually won!
This step is required if you are part of the Voting Panel!

If you have any questions about the voting procedure, don't hesitate to ask!

Feel free to scroll down to see the submissions for this round...

Space Pirates! | BASIC TASK
The pirates are attacking your ship! Make a deck either represeting your crew fighting the pirates (in space or onboard) or make a deck representing the pirates fighting you! The deck must contain cards from at exactly 3 elements! (The mark can be any element)

Our delicious space trooper has gone down to drill, which left DoctorC (the Life Nymph) and TribalTrouble (the Aether Nymph) are left to defend the poor civilians from the terrors that space pirates are meaning to bring. In order to stop these vial pirates, DoctorC and TribalTrouble set out a Green House defense system - a powerful force field that stops anyone from breaking in. Naturally, Green Houses are built to protect plants from raging weather, but Serenity's technology took it further in order to prevent extinction of entire civilizations by protecting them from whatever cruel environment the planet might have in-store as well as provide life force for all its inhabitants.

Spoiler for Green Night (illegal):
This submission is against the rules and cannot be voted on. It will recieve 0 points.

There are people on our ship we need to protect. We can't risk their lives. So it's the 4 of us fighting against the pirates.
Joey, unupgraded because he isn't very good, aspires to make everyone else better. As the Green Nymph, leader of the Green Night, pumps the minds and prepares his troops for battle.
Manuel, a vicious attacker who will stop in front of nothing to bring victory to his team. Poison is just another way of reaching the goal.
Zyardran, takes the sunlight and makes beautiful art. Colors of the rainbow from a single ray of light.
Mathman, deadweight who does nothing, well I guess he does 1 damage per turn.

The pirates were dumb to come fight us on board, because the green night is full of green shards I have stolen over the years, and there happens to be a medic able to heal us in the people we rescued. And nothing can stop the bond between these crew members.

Spoiler for Battlestar Go Frak Yourself:
With the logo of the Colonial Fleet scratched off the hull and the words ""GO FRAK YOURSELF"" spray-painted over the ship's old name, the Battlestar is in itself a pirate ship. Stolen and on the run.

Luckily, other pirates are generally very respectful people and do not discriminate. Even though we're technically pirates too, they're more than happy to attempt to ravage us just the same! What lovely people.

There were hundreds of them. They descended like vultures onto us, engines blasting and torpedoes firing volley after volley, straining to immolate us.

When they couldn't take us down from afar, they drew in close and launched tiny projectiles at us — their own crew. Clad in barely-working spacesuits and armed with the most basic of drills, these bastards soard towards us like dragons latched onto our hull. We did what we could to shake them off, and for the most part it worked — the once-empty void around us had become a boneyard of the dead.

The pirates didn't care. They mopped up what bodies they could into Otyugh-class fuel recyclers, and bunched up the skeletons of the remaining dead into a hideous chimera of bones and blood. They launched this amalgamation at us via some space-catapult, hoping to breach us... but it didn't work. Their attacks were useless against us.

SIR, SIR! The enemy ships have landed 3 miles away and the enemy are approaching!

How do you know they are the enemy?

They kept shouting DEATH TO ALL

Seems conclusive. Alright men, much of this fight will be on land, so man the battle Steam Machines and prepare the Shatter Cannons! Here's the battle plan:

  • Congeal all ships, both civilian and pirate. The pirates will flee their frozen conditions and mount an attack on us as the most threatening enemy.
  • Wait for their arrival on our ship, ambush them in the Steam Machines, scald the first wave red raw.
  • Once the initial wave are steamed like a space broccoli, advance through our doors and adjust the machines to flame settings. Drown the next wave of attackers in a storm of fire and explosions.
  • Advance on the enemy ships, and shatter them from a safe distance with well placed shockwaves.
  • Board the civilian ships, claim any frozen civilians as our own, be sure to search for any details of their origin and value as hostages.
  • Wait for them to thaw safely, and depending on their value, make plans for their mutually beneficial release.

The Dig to the Artifact | COMBO TASK
Space Trooper:You land on the surface of the asteriod and pick up your minig equipment. It seems like the artifact is inside the asteroid somehow. Luckily you were always good at digging. Make a deck depicting a person/team/creature/company/location/eventfrom your home planet (or elsewhere) that taught you to dig. This task is an Artifact Task! The team that wins this task will get the Artifact! Artifacts can give you special abilities or change future tasks!
Log Keeper: Write a story about when your deck builder learnt to dig. Was it standard training for being a Space Trooper? Did he have to learn it as a result of a dangerious mission? Or was he maybe raised by a couple of badgermoles?

While Doc and I were busy investigating the strange portal and collecting the artifact, Mr Muffin had been busy digging his way through the remains of an old alien subway station, collecting materials that may aid us in our mission later on. As we made our way back to our ship I thought back to our first training session.

At Serenity, new recruits have to go through the arduous, repetitive effort of digging their way through a reinforced bunker left deep underground centuries earlier. Each trainee designs and maintains their own pair of gloves custom fit to their body. That's how our Space Trooper became known for his signature Gnome Gemfinderâ„¢ muffin mitts, earning his title as The Muffin Man, or Mr Muffin for short. Able to cut through steel like butter and withstand extreme heat levels, they were perfect for both digging and baking! Well, perfect as long as you didn't mind a few extra slashes through your dough.

After engineering those muffin mitts, the next task was to dig alongside Graboids, Nature's best digging machines. As Mr Muffin descended onto the asteroid which housed the artifact he readied himself for the ancient Graboid burrow technique of head-butting through topsoil. The Gnome Gemfinderâ„¢ mitts can meld together, mimicking the Graboid's head to burrow through with relative ease without any need for wasted time slashing through. That's under normal conditions, at least. It becomes immediately apparent that these are not normal conditions as Mr Muffin finds it nigh impossible to cut through this asteroid's surface with the normal technique. Perhaps the artifact hidden inside is enhancing the strength of this asteroid? Separating the mittens for dedicated slashing proves much more effective, as he manages to make swift progress cutting through similar to Graboids that clawed through layers of diamonds and disgusting quicksand. Making some real progress down there - fweeeee-THUMP - Huh? What was that noise?

Enter query: GARGOIL

A gargoyle minutes after being frightened by something.
Gargoyles are very finicky creatures. Naturally, they are extraordinarily timid — in the wild, they were hunted by creatures of the darkness for their strangely sweet meat. Today, they are farmed for a completely different reason: their oils.

Gargoyle oil — or ""Gargoil"", as you'll often see painted onto market stalls — has the unique property that upon receiving a small electrical impulse, it will rapidly solidify into a hard, grey substance. To the less knowledgeable, this substance is indistinguishable from stone. Gargoyles themselves are entirely coated in a thin layer of this oil, and when frightened, a small gland on their body — like that of an electric eel — will electrify the oil and coat them in stone. It takes days for the oil to ""melt"" back into its liquid form.

Gargoyle farmers have to be very gentle people and must always work with a smile on their face such that the domesticated gargoyles to which they tend don't solidify themselves. It's much harder to scrape off rock than it is to gently sponge away oil.

The oil is usually sold at very high prices to architects, builders and, constructors. It is most often used to fortify the external structure of buildings while they are still being constructed. This eliminates the need for scaffolding, and can cut the build time by as much as 70%. Efforts to chemically synthesize the oil are ongoing.

Enter query: DEVOURER NOMADS

A devourer in isolation. This devourer is roughly 6 metres long.
Devourers are worm-like creatures that burrow through most types of dirt and soil. Unlike worms, who simply leave the processed dirt behind them, devourers actually push the dirt outwards through the scales that cover them. This resulted in a well-defined tunnel, with the processed dirt being compacted into the ceiling and walls to stabilise it.

Devourers derived nutrition from the dirt in much the same way as worms do, however they were also able to create some sort of energy from the underground darkness itself. It yet remains unknown how they manage to do this.

The Devourer Nomads were able to reproduce the digging ability of the devourers by creating a mechanical version which they called ""Mecha-Devourers"" or ""Mechourers"", with other terms varying regionally (e.g. Mechovers). These almost perfectly simulated devourers themselves, except were much larger and the tunnels they made could easily accommodate humans on foot. Hence the term ""Devourer Nomads"" — through the power of the devourer, these nomads walked the earth through tunnels they made underground. They could travel undetected almost anywhere, and in more populated areas posed a major threat to underground infrastructure.

Notably, the Mechourers were also able to derive energy from the darkness. At this time it is not understood how the Nomads were able to replicate this.

Enter query: MAJOFA
[NO IMAGE AVAILABLE]Codenamed ""MAJOFA"" (MAster JOuke FArmer), he was a gargoyle farmer turned Devourer Nomad after the Second Great Purge.

MAJOFA was known to use a modified version of the 'Mechourer' which also applied electrified gargoyle oil to the walls of the tunnels he dug. Unlike most Devourer Nomads, who consumed only surplus nutrition from the Mechourer, MAJOFA raided towns and cities to steal food. The strengthened tunnels from the application of gargoyle oil was essential for this. To this day, MAJOFA has never been caught.

Rumours suggest that MAJOFA also brought with him in the tunnels his entire population of gargoyles. This would explain how he is able to constantly use gargoyle oil for his Mechourer Digging.

Recently, the number of Mechourer-based attacks has dropped significantly. This suggests that MAJOFA has left the planet. Some hypothesise that he was one of the ones who volunteered to be aboard the Battlestar Go Frak Yourself. One can only wonder whether or not he brought with him his entire Gargoyle population.

When we needed to dig. I had nobody to look at. That's the problem when walking alone, or with a very small crew. I picked a mapper to find my way around, picked a spacetrooper to fight potential enemies, and picked a deadweight who does nothing because 3 is an odd number. I had no digger on my team ( In hindsight, perhaps I should have picked a digger instead of a dead weight who does nothing), but that's when my spacetrooper told me he had done a lot of digging on his planet. When I asked why, that was his answer. The following text is translated to english to ease reading.

''On my planet, there was a legend. A legend about ancient civilizations. We even believed it might be the Ancestors. We looked for hints all over. We searched land and sky and sea, from the deepest oceans to the most active volcanos. From the highest clouds to home of the fiercest T-rexs.''

... Wait, dinosaurs still exist on your planet? o:

''Ofcourse, but that's not the point. Being bored from searching, I proposed we stop. We had looked everywhere, the legend was obviously just that, a legend. We would never find the Ancestors. But then I heard a voice behind me. The little genious of our group. He said, there's still one place we have not looked: the center of the planet. So to digging we went. And we found the treasure, though it was not the treasure we were expecting. We found that the old civilization on our planet was not the Ancestors, but really a group of Egyptians from planet Earth. How did they get here? No idea. Maybe the Ancestors are involved, no idea about that either. But this is when my life gained a meaning. I started training to become a space trooper in hopes of getting on a ship, not to find the Ancestors, but to find the answers to our questions. How did life on our planet start? Why had there been earthlings on our planet? Some say you need to learn about the past to make a better future for yourself, and I wanted to write a new history book to put on the library's shelf.''

Space Trooper Russianspy: Stop. Before I was conscripted by the great council, I worked for The Trans-Phospheric Marsh-Desert Mining Company. In exchange for rescuing those civilian ships from those pirates, we can ask them to help give us the man power to mount a serious approximation of official mining regulation practices (They won't quite be Gnomish slaves, but they will do). Sit down, sonny-fish, let me tell you how to plunder this great planet of ours.

Step 1: Planning and Precognition: Countless millions of Current-Sea coins have been wasted on failed mining expeditions. Be sure to survey the land or sea first to see if what you seek is really down there.

Step 2: Mark the Site: Serious construction and destruction is needed for a dig. Be sure not to use pillars, pendulums or other constructs that might get damaged by the dig.

Step 3: Poseidon's Sunder: Call upon the elements to sunder the area, bringing the earth or depth up to the surface.

Step 4: Schrodinger's Canary: Noxious gasses can be released in the sundering of the earth. Many a great fish has been suffocated in the depths of a mine shaft. Take a barrel or box, and lower a cat into the shaft. Leave it for an hour, and bring it to the surface. NOBODY GO DOWN THE SHAFT UNTIL YOU KNOW IF IT IS DEAD OR ALIVE. Once you bring it to the surface and open the box, and find out if the shaft is safe or not.

Step 5, 6, 7: Salvage, Remove and Make Safe: Any unearthed salvagable material should be recycled by the Phase and Graviton officers. Cleaning devourer worms will remove any unwanted earth or sludge from around the site. If any subterranean lava flows have been disrupted, the Brimstone officer will consume and remove the dangerous material.

Step 8: Be Patient and Mine: Send in the gnomish slave troupe to unearth any hidden gems!

Luckily, we have a fancy Artifact. Using its mysterious powers we were able to build flying drones with the mining lasers equipped as weapons. We don't know how they're able to fly, or even know where to navigate or aim — the artifact must have given them some sort of AI. Ancestor technology is great.

Spoiler for Voting:
Spoiler for Captain:
The pirates are attacking your ship! Make a deck either represeting your crew fighting the pirates (in space or onboard) or make a deck representing the pirates fighting you! The deck must contain cards from at exactly 3 elements! (The mark can be any element)

All the submissions here were great. BGFY get the extra point for doing pirates instead of their team.

Spoiler for Space Trooper:
You land on the surface of the asteriod and pick up your minig equipment. It seems like the artifact is inside the asteroid somehow. Luckily you were always good at digging. Make a deck depicting a person/team/creature/company/location/eventfrom your home planet (or elsewhere) that taught you to dig.

These are all good, solid decks. Since this is the artifact task and going purely by the decks I have no preference, I'll use Log Keeper to swing my voints.

Spoiler for Log Keeper:
Write a story about when your deck builder learnt to dig. Was it standard training for being a Space Trooper? Did he have to learn it as a result of a dangerious mission? Or was he maybe raised by a couple of badgermoles?

Answering "How did X learn Y" with "X learned Y by doing A, B, and C" fulfills the task, but is also very boring. Answering with "Y has the following qualities/properties/steps A, B, and C" is less boring and more conducive to worldbuilding.

BGFY and Iron Manta take it. I prefer BGFY's writing style, but Iron Manta's submission ties into the deck more. Paratus and Green Night fulfill task requirements, but it appears that I have a bias against first person narratives. Some kudos to Paratus for having proofread it, unlike Green Night.

Spoiler for Mechanic:
You're being attacked by space pirates! Make a Permanent card to represent one of the weapons your ship is equipped with! (Special event if you won the artifact in Round 1: You seem to be able to build part of the artifact into the weapon to add a barebones artificial intelligence to it! If you want, you can make the card a Creature instead)

Iron Manta knock it out of the park. Manta Cannon/ Manta Ray is a clear and balanced idea.

BGFY's theme is great. I'm not as sure about the balance-- they did a reasonably good job, but PC on a creature as a mechanic is always going to be a bit borderline OP-- just look at SoFo.

Paratus have a solid idea, but I'm not a big fan of upgrades changing the mechanic drastically.

Green Night have a good card idea, but it doesn't evoke that same sci-fi theme as the others.
Spoiler for Mapper:
Make the art for the card!
Paratus' submission looks clean, the clear winner.

BGFY's art has less details, but the shading is a nice touch.

Iron Manta's 3d art is impressive, but the portion of the art in the card doesn't look as polished as the above two.

I sort of get what Green Night are trying to do, but it's not entirely clear how it's supposed to be sci-fi related.

Spoiler for voting:

Captain: Every team did a good job with the exception of an illegal submission but Paratus had the greatest idea imho. Iron Manta's steam machines were great too!

Space Trooper: I loved Prataus and Iron Manta the most here...

Log Keeper: I loved Paratus' story and laughed with the way Mr. Muffin got his name. Iron Manta had a great lore too.

Mechanic: I like all the ideas here, some more some less.

Mapper: I absolutely love Paratus with GFY a close second but every other team has a solid pic too.

So, uh. This round doesn't really have many tasks we'd be qualified to talk about, so here's an overhaul of the art task.

Iron Manta: If it wasn't for the beauty shots, we'd struggle pretty hard to understand how the image on your card idea is supposed to be a cannon. The angle of the camera is not the most thought through thing, IMO. We'd prefer shots two or three to make it on to the card.

BGFY: Good job. It doesn't seem too complicated or out of artist's comfort zone, but we like it quite a lot because it looks as believable as a cartoon mining drone can probably look.

Green Night: It looks like an amalgamation between a mirror and one of the optical illusions that looks like two heads or a cup or something, neither of which are known to be effective weapons.
