Brawl #6 - Round 2 - Voting https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=64071.msg1256317#msg1256317

Time until voting for Round 2 ends:
Time's up!

How to vote
All you have to do to vote in Brawl #6 is to follow these four simple steps.
Note that unlike previous Brawls, Brawl participants are not allowed to vote.

1. Read
Read through all the submissions below to see what you actually want to vote for. Be sure to not accidentally miss one!

2. Decide
After reading, decide how you want to vote. Remember, you have 10 voting points ('voints') to split up between teams for each task. If you really like two of them but not the others, you could vote 5-5-0-0. Or if you have a clear ranking in mind, you could vote 4-3-2-1. Or split it up in any other way you want. The only limits is that you cannot give more than 5 voints to any one team, and you have to spend all 10 voints on each task you vote on. Any votes that do not fulfill these conditions will not be counted.

3. Vote
Use the form in the spoiler below to actually vote! If you are a member of the Voting Panel, you should definitely try to vote for each task, but if you are not, you can if you want decide to only vote for some tasks. You may submit some votes then come back later and submit the rest of them, if you want. You may also vote as many times as you like, but only the most recent will be valid.

Spoiler for Voting form:

4. Write
Write a post in this topic where you tell the rest of the community why you liked who you liked (Or why you didn't like who you didn't like). You have to give at least some reasoning for your vote on whatever team you gave the most voints, but feel free to give some feedback to all teams if you want! Be sure to not reveal your exact votes to anyone, to help avoid strategic voting. You are supposed to tell who you liked and why, but not how you spent your voints. This will however be revealed at the end of the voting, together with the totals to see who actually won!

Please note that in order for your vote to be valid, you MUST do step 4. If you don't, we will assume that your vote was submitted illegally by one of the Brawlers and it will be ignored.

In the event that you decide to change your vote, please ensure you do one of the following after submitting the form again: Send us a PM to notify us, or write a new post saying you changed your vote, or add a line about it in your explanation post. This is to confirm that it's really you who's voting.

If you have any questions about the voting procedure, don't hesitate to ask!

Feel free to scroll down to see the submissions for this round...

The king's logbook :
Day 1 : Everything's going well, we are making good progress. At this rate, we'll reach Aurdinas in no time at all
Day 2 : I ... I may have spoken too soon. We reached the forest and... we lost some of our guys in it. I swear, if they think it's time for hide and seek...
Day 3 : We don't come to this forest often and it holds some mysteries indeed. We found and were attacked by species we have never seen before. One of our new discoveries were strange birds that followed us for a bit, but meant no harm. I also advised my soldiers to tread carefully around large piles of leaves.
Day 5 : We've been looking for our men for the last 3 days. I think we have to give up on them now, because it's this time of the year, when the trees awaken.
Day 6 : Not everybody agreed on giving up on the lost soldiers, so we searched a bit more. But my biggest fear came true, the boggarts awoke, leaving their nests in the trees. The whole forest became a maze. Few men have been known to leave from this forest when this happens, luckily, I am one of the few.
We managed to lose the boggarts... for now. Terrifying.
Day 7 : We found our men. They were being held hostage by a horde of goblins. We made peace, had a majestic banquet, with varieties of food, and they gave us our men back. Now, all that's left to do is to get out of this place.
Day 9 : I see the light! We all rush to the exit, finally escaping this damned forest. The worst is behind us. Now all we need to do is march the same distance fivefold, with 3 days left to reach Aurdinas. I won't have time to write any more into this diary, but the rest of the way is through empty plains, and will hopefully be uneventful.

Lyrics:

The tentacles are slithering across the seven seas,
The leagues they cross are dangerous to all but them it seems,
For with them is the Emperor, and all who swim with me
Have nothing to fear from all the wondrous sights that they shall see.

First, leaving the city,
The reef I call my throne,
The coral gardens call to me,
As we pass the Whale of Stone,
A mighty, sacred statue,
Reminding all who see,
The weight, the boundless grandeur,
The glory of the sea!
Now, we reach the border,
Through the Sharksbite Gate,
Careful not to harm ourselves
on the teeth that line the way,
The Seaweed Fields below us
And the ocean lies before,
Come, we must make haste, there's still
A thousand leagues to shore!

The tentacles are slithering across the seven seas,
The leagues they cross are dangerous to all but them it seems,
For with them is the Emperor, and all who swim with me
Have nothing to fear from all the wondrous sights that they shall see.

Moving through a misty chasm,
Of depth and darkness vast,
The water feels so cold here,
And shadows flicker past,
But the gloom seems to be shifting,
And a giant eye appears,
With gleaming scale, and mighty tail,
The Leviathan is here!
He drifts upwards before us
From the fathoms of the deep,
And rests upon a plateau
To coil himself and sleep..
Alas, we must disturb him,
We scale the crumbling crag,
Now, I survey my kingdom,
Riding on the Leviathan's back!

The tentacles are slithering across the seven seas,
The leagues they cross are dangerous to all but them it seems,
For with them is the Emperor, and all who swim with me
Have nothing to fear from all the wondrous sights that they shall see.

We pass the bubbling crevices
that scorch the southern reach,
great pillars of living, burning stone
like fingers come from each,
Now reach The Glittering Curtain
where jellyfish writhe and wring.
tendrils stroke us gently
They know better than to sting!
See! The sea has beauty,
its landscape never still
A twisting, swirling, maelstrom,
Ever bending to my will!
And as we surge across it,
its majesty rushing past,
with golden sands, it's glory stands
as a violent work of art!

The tentacles are slithering across the seven seas,
The leagues they cross are dangerous to all but them it seems,
For with them is the Emperor, and all who swim with me
Have nothing to fear from all the wondrous sights that they shall see.

Goblin Attack | BASIC TASK
You encounter a horde of greedy-looking goblins on the road, hoping to steal your stuff!
The goblins want three things: they want something valuable, they want to eat, and they want to kill everything that's not made of goblin flesh.
Make a deck to kill, scare off, pacify or otherwise get rid of these goblins, taking into account at least one of these needs!

Our troops do not have the time or spare resources on these feeble goblins, thus, our deck aims to get rid of them in the most passive way possible. Obviously, we cannot let them kill our steeds, nor is it wise to waste our food on them. So, we bait the goblins away with wealth, and let their greed make them turn on themselves.

"Fighting" the Goblins: The goblins lust for materialistic wealth. What do they see? Mounds of jade. And so, they rush towards the stash, trying to take as much of it as they can. They will start fighting for it. It starts out as small squabbles. Then weapons are drawn. Soon, the goblins will have defeated themselves, while we never have to lift a finger.

Strategy: This deck aims to stall with the healing provided from Shards of Gratitude and Antimatter, with Chaos Seed and Pandemonium providing removal for any creatures (or goblins) that start to get scary. Discord can stall out the first few turns if drawn, otherwise, it's decent chip damage. The game can then be finished with the Jade Dragons.

A shield constructed of diamonds is of utmost value and the attacking horde of goblins would surely want to steal it.An attacking horde's hunger would aim to catch and dine on some tasty squid and octopus. The squid and octopus guarding the diamonds are able to defend themselves by turning to STONE (Skin) - giving them power to absorb more of the goblin attack! The diamonds are protected by this spell becoming untouchable by the encroaching goblins' greedy grubby hands.Attacking goblins are reduced to dried up husks of their former selves once the Arctic defenders summon a DESICCATION spell! The defense against the oncoming Goblin Horde is led by the God of the Sea himself.
Strategy
For this deck's stall approach to fending off invading goblins, the first priority is to play the 3 damage reduction Diamond Shield (shiny!) and an Arctic Squid/Octopus (tasty!). These are key cards to prevent repeated small-attacks (shield) or single-source large-attacks (squid/octopus) from damaging your Hit Points. If early Permanent Control is expected or likely it is advisable to hold the shield until Protect Artifact can be played the same turn (mind that you need minimum 7 Earth quanta on-hand to play both cards on the same turn). Similar strategy may hold for squid/octopus if opponent lands an earlier, solo creature that will inhibit your squid/octopus from being usable - that is, hold until you can drop two squid/octopus to be able to gain the upper-hand on a lone opposing creature that stops a single-squid.

The Desiccation and Stone Skin are mid- to late-game plays with the former being used to kill opposing creatures to thin-out and reduce the opponent's quantity of attackers to within your squid's board-control range and the latter pushing your HP out in front of any ramp-up damage such as Arsenic, Physalia, or the like.

Poseidon, when deployed early, can cut the legs out from under the opponents before it gets going. Also, quanta destruction such as Poseidon is useful for limiting burst damage from sources like Fractal or quanta-bolts.

This deck's win condition is victory by deckout intended to represent how a siege or attack from goblins would be repelled until the oncoming forces were repelled or depleted. This is apparent in both screenshots from actual competition against AI3.

Whilst wandering through the forest we were ambushed by a group of goblins, asking for our valuables or our lives.
Immediately, we pacified them, with pretty fireworks, reversing their anger into love with antimatter. Then, we started preparing a feast, cremating most of the dead wood we could find around us. And what a grandiose feast it was! Chickens, that would spring back to life from their ashes, burn again for more food.
For variety's sake we also prepared some octopi and surprise eggs.
And as a finale to the feast, condors, that had fattened over and over again during the feast, ripe for the taking.
Eating and killing the animals over and over again satisfied the goblins. We parted on happy terms.
And a few leagues later, realized that our precious staves, made out of solid gemstone, got stolen. Damn these goblins.

On the road, the F.R.O.G.S. encountered a small horde of goblins. They refused to mount a violent defense, saving the death for their true enemy, the dragon of Aurdinas, and as suchThe Wizard summoned two lovely ladies to lob potions of Antimatter at the goblins, rendering their attacks useless. The bard began a song of healing, keeping everyone safe [Sanctuary]. The goblins were angry; they could not kill. They took to the rations, ravenous, but were stopped in their tracks by the Enchanter [Sundial]. Repelled, the goblins grew more furious, if that was possible. They refused to leave empty handed, and snatchED a few of the F.R.O.G.S.' Divine Shards. The team did not stop them; that's what the shards were for: bribery. This was far easier than incapacitating them one by one.

Spoiler for Scribe's Tale:
Looking to the group of soldiers that followed behind him, King Mathman was slightly discouraged to see the fatigue on the faces of each and every one of them. "Let's set up for the night, team!" He called out, making sure to hide the concern in his voice.

As he watched his team construct the tents, the young king sighed quietly.
"Sir?" A small voice sounded from behind, and Mathman turned to see the small cat warrior that had joined the ranks. "We heard some noises coming from the forest to the north. Should we investigate, or leave it be?"
"Noises? What sort of noises, Luna?" The frog king shifted his gaze towards the forest, worry filling his eyes.
"I don't know how to explain them, sir. It was like rustling, but not quite the same.." The small cat shivered slightly as she recalled the noises. "Should we investigate, sir?"

The king pondered for a moment before nodding. "Yes, gather DoubleCapitals, ARTH, and Timdood. The five of us will go to calm the nerves of the rest of the soldiers." He watched the pink cat turn back and walk to where the the troops were setting up a camp of tents.
After a few moments, she returned with the requested troops and the mismatched group of five set off towards the forest, all silently hoping that the noises thay had heard was nothing to be worried about.
After some time in the forest, the silence began to make the frog king uneasy. Each tiny sound that rang out made him jump, and he could tell his soldiers were getting antsy as well.
Suddenly, a loud crash sounded behind the group, causing them all to whip around. There, in front of them, a huge pelican had crashed through the canopy and landed with a loud thump. It cried out, its beady eyes trained on the king.

Without a moment of hesitation, the cockatrice ARTH dashed towards the giant bird, yelling "Protect the king!" as he did so. The other soldiers followed soon after, trying desperately to keep the bird from their beloved leader.
Suddenly, a ball of light lashed out at DoubleCapitals and flew off into the trees. The team stood confused for a moment before continuing to try and fend off the pelican.
"Timdood! Look out!" Luna cried as she spotted an odd looking creature approaching from behind the firefly. Before her very eyes, the shapeless creature morphed itself into an exact copy of an Amethyst Dragon, then split into two exact copies of the same creature.

"It can steal abilities!" Mathman cried out in dismay, his eyes scanning over his loyal team of followers. As he cried out, the pelican shot forward and began to attack him.
"King Mathman!" DoubleCapitals shouted, but it was no use. The pelican and Mathman fought for what seemed like an eternity, and during that time another monster appeared. This one, the soldiers could not describe. It looked like a small gremlin, but its voice was awful. It could make the sound of any animal or human, but when it spoke with its own, our voice, it sounded like static.
Luna dashed towards the freaky little creature, her eyes blazing. As she got closer, it began to glow softly and the other creatures in the area began to regain the strength that the soldiers had managed to drain from them.

"Its no use! We're doomed!" Luna howled, leaping at the Familiar in a vain attempt to help her friends struggling with the other unfamiliar creatures.

Play order
> Play Basalt
> Wait a turn
> All your permanents are Basalt Shapers if the Shaper is still in play (Can it survive RT?)
> When you end a turn, they revert to permanents after attacking (No quanta generation)
> Nothing special happens next turn

The ability triggers at the start of the next turn the Basalt Shaper hit play; you can't use the abilities of those permanents, and those permanent's end-of-turn abilities don't trigger that turn. Dim Shield and Sundial still tick down, but they lose their abilities for a turn.

Each individual in every stack becomes a creature - 3 earth pillars = 3 Shapers

Does not affect immortal permanents; You can't blow up your own mark. : P

ATK/HP of the Shaper do not carry over to the copies; If you cast blessing on the shaper, all the perm-copies are 3/3s.

This golem of the plains was created by an unknown maker, designed to duplicate over and over. It was a failed project, orphaned to time and neglect. Maybe if it makes itself again, it'll have friends.

NOTES:
Turn order:
> Play Vinegrabber, Steal a permanent for free.
> If the permanent has an ability, ready the ability and change the quanta cost of the ability to darkness. (Eternity becomes 3 darkness - spend 3 to RT a pesky pharaoh!)
> At the end of turn, return everything to normal; stealing is not permanent

If you steal a pillar, it generates quanta for you.
Can steal your own stuff to use an ability multiple times.

If you steal a permanent with the grabber, then steal it with a steal, the permanent isn't returned (But why would you do this)

You can steal permanents with no abilities. (Dims.)
You can steal permanents with an ability if you have no darkness - you just can't use its ability.

Spoiler for Scribe + Enchanter:
"Sir!" The young guard snapped to attention before the pool in which the Emperor rested.

"Yes?"

"The scouting party found something, sir! A...er...creature, of sorts."

The Emperor stretched out then replied, "Send a team with my lieutenant. I'll be along."

-----------------

As the afternoon sun blazed uncomfortably for the cold blooded group, they struggled up and down the landscape. Difficulty lay not only in awkwardly shifting their own weight across earth but also in negotiating the steep inclines and valleys which were generally understood to be the rim of the watery domain. Anyone from the ocean had to either do some upstream swimming or go through the pain of trying to cross this odd substance called land...so most never bothered. The team stumbled around quite a bit before finding the small entryway into the mountains of which the scouts spoke. The worn wooden door leading directly into a hillside hung open, while the adjacent marble columns too showed signs of wear: a handful of jagged scratches, both tops cracked off, rubble littering the bases-

But the lieutenant suddenly called, "Halt!" Amidst the rubble, a brown shape moving erratically around the valley had caught his attention. The group shuffled down into the valley with a fair bit more caution, coiling their tentacles around wispy trees for cover. Not that this mattered, since a less sure-footed member went tumbling down the last third of the slope. The brown being, however, didn't seem to pay any heed. As the remainder of the team moved into the cooler shade afforded by the home-bearing hill, they picked up snatches of speech and sound.

"Just a little bit more on the left ear..." Clink. "Maybe the nose?" Tink. "...his eyes are fine, right...?"

These came from the brown creature, who made one more motion towards the nearby shape then wailed as a shadow passed overhead and the object before it crumbled to dust. It turned from what it had been doing and saw the odd bunch of water-dwellers; in return this allowed them a good look at its face. This was seemingly a small, roughly humanoid creature hewn of stone and given life, the only real variance from the brown rock being two clear glassy orbs for eyes.

He considered the party for a moment, then returned to arranging into piles the strewn-about pieces of rock. When he had run out, he stamped his foot on the ground, causing a rough pillar of similar substance to himself to rise from the center of the clearing. Collecting tools from their resting places adjacent to the newly-formed piles, he began chiseling at the pillar.

The lieutenant stepped forward. "Excuse me..."

The golem only said in reply, "No time for you, only for me, I must do my work. Must be done. There must be more of me."

"More of you?"

"It is my sworn task given to me by my master, and maybe if I can make just one that lasts he will return..."

He went quiet after that, and the away team gathered behind one of the rubble piles to discuss what to do next...

-----------------

After some deliberation, the lieutenant approached the golem. "Hey, you."

He gave no indication of notice, at least not until he finished chiseling a right foot from his pillar. "Basalt."

"What?"

"I am Basalt. As an artist, I will be addressed as such."

"All right, Basalt. What are these copies of you supposed to be?"

"Servants for Master, of whom I am the first...and so far, the only one who has seen more than one moon."

"Who...who is your master?"

"He is Master, and he has been away for a long time." Insofar as a stone golem can change shape much, his shoulders slumped. "A...very long time." Finally Basalt turned to look at his questioner. "I will stop my work for now. You may come in."

Without waiting for a response, he picked up his tools, turned, and walked through the doorway into the hill, quickly disappearing in the open black aperture.

The lieutenant viewed the door with apprehension. Being out of the water in open air was bad enough, but to willingly enter a dwelling firmly encased by earth? It seemed unthinkable. Of course, the small band he commanded waited uneasily behind for his orders; after a few moments he directed two of them to report back to camp while the rest would go inside with him.

The stone steps winding down under the hill were smooth and cool, the way dimly lit by glowing fungal growths. A small grotto at the bottom was glimmering with the light of thousands of them, like precious jewels. The grotto apparently served as Basalt's home; much to the relief of the party members the humidity seemed much more reasonable thanks to a gentle stream running through the northeast area of the room.

Out of place were several mismatched items of furniture that would have looked at home in a study: a sturdy birch chair, a fine mahogany desk, a tripod easel...Basalt did not seem to wait for them, examining a paper on the desk. The lieutenant walked up behind him. "That's...you?"

"The very first diagram. I was to be the Shaper who made all the rest."

"...but you didn't."

Basalt turned and glared with as much expression that eyes of glass can muster. "I know not why. Not even Master knew why, though he gave me his power to create. None I made have survived. Either turned back to stone or crumbled. Usually both. He went on a journey, that time without me, and asked me to finally make a perfect copy of myself. If I can finally succeed...perhaps he will return."

"How long has it been?"

"Long. I do not record time, I record art."

"Are you sure your master would come back? Is he even still alive or-" The unfortunate lieutenant received no chance to continue.

"Of course Master is still alive! How dare you suggest otherwise!" At his rumbling, granite voice, the entire grotto seemed to shake. "It would already be done it if were not for that vile bird making trouble!"

"...you're having trouble with what?"

"The Shadowbird, the Shadowbird!" Basalt kicked viciously at his wall. "Its very presence crumbles my statues if I am near, and it steals the living ones if I am not!"

"Then we'll deal with it." Another voice cut in, and everyone except Basalt stiffened - that was the Emperor's voice! Indeed it was he who strode in moments later. "Of course, we'd like your help if we do so."

The golem looked at the new figure and probably would have blinked if he had eyelids. Despite his rage, he seemed to possess the sense to calm himself when faced with majesty. "Hmm...the way here..." Turning to the desk, he opened several drawers then pulled out some loose sheets containing hastily scrawled diagrams. "A map for the fastest path from here to the other side of the mountains!"

At this, the leaders of the aquatic band smirked softly. Such a causeway could not only speed the progress towards Aurdinas - it could make it easier to keep it under control, at least until such time as the gold mines could be properly flooded.

Relieved, Basalt nodded. "I'll be here whilst I wait. Give me its vines as proof..."
He let out a relieved sigh.
"...Thank you."

-----------------
Steeled and ready, the lieutenant's forces set a trail to cut through the mountain. They expected these sharp faces of rock to be filled with cold dirt and ice, but they were surprised to find lush, verdant overgrowth at every corner. They could even refresh their tentacles with the amount of moisture dripping from these branches; it was like a rainforest up in these cliffs!

They travelled onward and onward, confident but apprehensive. They knew this is not how mountains should look like.

Eventually, the group came to a clearing after an arduous trek, and were relieved. They stopped to rest, to recover, and to prepare; the nest should be a good two miles away from here. A massive tree dominated the space, sparkling from the humidity and the reflection of the crystal-clear water belo-

"Hang on a moment! That tree looks off; like it's hollowed out. Someone should check it out."
The soldiers questioned why, but approached the tree anyway.

The water at the edge of the clearing shone with an innocent glee, but the water at the base of the tree glistened in gluttony. Indeed, it seemed that not only were there some of Basalt's replicas behind the tree, but the entire tree was filled with gems and broken glass! Surprisingly, the glass wasn't the most broken part of the horde; Basalt's replica's were eroding away at an astonishing rate, revealing the base shards of earth pillars used to fashion them.

Ecstatic, the Lieutenant ordered the squadron to mine, mine mine! Aurdinas was so far away, and this was a small fortune! He shifted along the water's edge, tentacles ready to bore -

And was dragged off by a mossy interloper the very next instant.

-----------------

Emitting a chilling "Screeeee," the shark-sized bird circled above the party. A grotesque mix of green and black lights, intertwined with a complex lattice of grass and vines, this elemental bird was most certainly angry at the intruders. The Lieutenant flailed around hopelessly in its grasp as it was placed on top of the tree, like a gaudy Christmas decoration.

"Archers!" The three bow-wielders reached for their weapons at the Emperor's command. "Slay this beast! This is your training for a flying foe that breathes fire!"

It made a dive for the Emperor's lustrous Trident, stretching out a rope of fauna and shadow. The archers fired. The archers missed; this bird was certainly faster than a dragon! But ever the crafty brawler, the Emperor flicked his staff down, causing the bird to tumble to the ground with a dazed wail when it grasped held of the Emperor's firm polearm.

The archers, recovered from their earlier miss, took three shots into the shadowbird's belly. The Emperor would have had their heads if they had missed this easy a shot, but the guttural howl of this beast was a brutal retaliation.

With everyone's hands over their ears from a mandrake-worthy screech, the shadowbird took flight again, wanting to dart and weave around the trees, picking off the trespasses one by one. But the lieutenant had other plans, jumping from the tree and thrusting his mighty blade into the plummeting elemental. A fatal blow, for sure.

With the group sitting up and removing the ink from their pants, they looked at the inactive corpse of their prey; nothing but moss and vines.

But the group noticed something interesting; A lowly soldier looked back at Basalt's property, cast into the water. They had reformed back fully to earth pillars. Perhaps Basalt's ability to make statues was temporary.

-----------------

"Was I really that stupid!?" Basalt stomped on the floor like a petulant child. He could not believe he thought this bird was causing his statues to disintegrate, when it was really just his powers. He was thankful that the "Shadowbird" was dead, of course, but realising he was this flawed all along was a blow to his self-esteem at the very least.

"...thank you." After a long pause of quiet introspection (and awkward silence from the tentacles), that was all Basalt had to say.
"Thank you."

The tentacles partied with a job well done, and sat down in Basalt's home to rest. He'd given them a special bowl filled with rose petals; apparently the water infusion helped tired people energize.

When it was time for the group to leave for Aurdinas with the new maps, Basalt understood, and had seemed to at least come to terms with his new understanding of himself. The entire group left through the creaky door, but the lieutenant turned back and asked:

"Do you want to come with us? We could do with those golems, even if they're temporary."

Basalt perked up. These could be pretty good masters, if a little slimey, but... a golem needs time to feel right in its stoneskin. If he wanted to adventure, the time to do so was not yet.

He respectfully declined the offer, and the lieutenant left to join his group.

Basalt sighed, and then turned to his desk. There was a picture of his master, frilled and with hair made out of hexagons.

He sighed again.
"Not yet."

PART TWO
Spoiler for Hidden:
New Critters | COMBO TASK
On your journey you meet some strange creatures you have never seen before!
Enchanter: Create 2 or 3 cards to represent each creature that you met!
Scribe: Write what happened when your team met the creatures!

Spoiler for Super Secret Shadow Shielders Simply Standing Still:
Scribe:
After some of us went missing we had to stray from the paths we usually stick to. Very few people come to the forest of nightmares voluntarily, as the name already suggests and it is highly advised to stay on track with the haunting season about to start.

While this is a pretty bad situation, it allowed my thirst for knowledge about the wildlife in unseen areas to be quenched. Today we made an amazing discovery! Not one, but at least 2 completely unknown species crossed our path!

One of our soldiers misstepped and was attacked by leaves covering a creature he stepped on. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it, but it seemed as if the leaves themselves actually attacked us while the creature remained idle. Some soldiers sliced both of them before they could possibly hurt us, but I must admit that I felt a little sad afterwards. I wish I could have observed more of their behaviour while they were alive! Still, this encounter was enlightening indeed, and it didn't stop there. The creature was lying in a pit that was covered by the foliage that seemingly assaulted our companion. The hole was just deep enough to contain it, making me think that the critter was not there just to be safe, but maybe was waiting for unalert prey to come by. Some organic remains and its sharp teeth back that theory of mine further, and its relatively small mouth suggests that it prefers smaller animals, which is probably why it itself did not attack our companion immediately (though it might just have been in pain). Consequently, I decided to call this creature the Pit Lurker. Its claws look well suited for digging and the strange behaviour of the leaves around it, as well as the perfect fit, suggests that it didn't fall into the pit by accident, but rather dug it itself. Some of us wondered whether the leaves actually trapped it there ( not getting it, but while they are a mystery to me, that thought is just obscure).

Which brings me to my brief observation of the behaviour of that unnaturally moving foliage. When not moving, it was indistinguishable from ordinary leaves (on the outside), making us question whether it was just a figment of our imagination. However the men that took care of it were seriously hurt and we saw that it wasnt the lurker's doing. Furthermore it didn't stop moving immediately after the lurker was cut in two and only fell to the ground after some more slicing. I wonder whether it might be an actual living being or if it was just unknown magic used by the lurker. Another thing about it was rather off: Some of the leaves were covered in a secretion that glued it to the organic remains we found. I initially assumed this was a byproduct of the pit lurker's eating habits, but closer inspectation of the ripped leaves showed that same secretion leaking out of them. Cutting some untouched leaves yielded the same result. Could this greenery really digest whatever the lurker doesn't eat? Does it intentionally cover and maybe even protect the lurker to have it trap prey for it? It is too bad that the King ordered us to stay away from larger piles of leaves, I really wish to find out more.

I am now kept busy, though. Soon after the kill a strange bird appeared, its wings seemed to be made out of shadows, never flapping. It cawed and soon many more turned up. They seem to be scavengers, living in flocks. While most of them proceeded to eat the dead lurker, some of them started following us. A few of us felt a bit unsure about them, but many appreciated the company, especially I, excited by new study projects! Do they follow us in the hopes that we kill other animals and leave some scraps for them to eat? I tested this by ordering one of our men to hunt down the next animal we encountered. Sure enough, the birds cawed, attracting more of their kind.
I am undecided whether I should name them after their stalking behaviour or their strange wings. For now I will refer to them as Blackwings, but Stalkwings could be a good name too. Soon, more came, following us into the deeper woods.

ENCOUNTER:
Spoiler for Hidden:
It was their third day on the march, and the weather had taken a turn for the chilly side. The captain knew it wouldn't be long before rain started to fall from the gathering clouds, so he called an early stop at a nearby cave. The soldiers piled in to the entrance cavern, glad to have a chance to rest their stiff bones. A fire was started and some of the men started telling stories to each other. Before long the cave was filled with sounds of, if not merriment, at least contentment. After a small yet satisfying dinner of corn and beef, washed down with a mug of ale each, the men went to sleep.

Down in the depths of the cave, however, something heard them. It skittered along a side-tunnel, its chitinous legs making light tapping sounds that alerted others of its kind. Soon, a swarm was on its way...

The first some of the soldiers knew about it was a sudden fiery pain in their arms. Opening their eyes, they saw a black spider the size of their head, its mouth dripping with freshly spilled blood.
Their screams soon woke up the rest of the army.

Normally, such critters wouldn't pose a threat to the well-equipped fighting force that was the Zyarhelm army, even given their abnormal size. However, these were no normal carrion.

One soldier was keeping four of the creatures at bay, desperately trying to squash their quickly-moving bodies. He finally landed a hit, and his face filled with glee, until a burst of purple blood from its abdomen covered his arm, which started smoking. He dropped his weapon in shock, and fell backward, while the remaining three spiders crawled onto him and began feasting.

The captain looked on in dismay, and knew that there was nothing they could do for him. Swearing vengeance, he ran forward and managed to kill one before they skittered away. The other two looked at him, their fangs dripping with blood, and hissed. As he began fighting them, the captain noticed they were attacking faster, with more viciousness in their bites. As he yet again knocked away the spiders, he leaped backwards and used the brief respite to look around the cavern.
It seemed his idea was correct, for all the spiders who had feasted on his army were attacking with renewed vigor and frenzy, while those whose mouths were yet unsullied were having trouble against even the lesser-skilled of his warriors.
Before he could ponder this further, the spiders were attacking him again. From his brief glance, he knew his army was having trouble, but he believed in them. He wouldn't let the Dragonslayers of Zyarhelm be defeated by a bunch of pests, no matter strange they were.
He gritted his teeth, and kept on fighting.

~

Once the sounds of fighting had died down, and the last spider had either fled or been slain, the captain looked around and did a tally in his head. The results weren't good. At least one in every five of his men had suffered mortal injuries, and twice as many again would be recovering from their wounds for days to come. As bandages were applied and antidotes uncorked, the captain looked around for their minstrel. Every army had at least one, for when morale was low and needed lifting, and now was certainly one of those times. A rousing story or ballad would bring these men to their feet, or at least distract them from their pain.

As he searched, hoping that the bard wasn't amongst the corpses at his feet, one of the older soldiers approached him.
"Aye, you be wanting some music, do you?", he said. He was a veteran soldier, whose face was marred from the scars of previous battles. "Well, i don't think you'll be getting much song out of 'im." He indicated the army's bard, who was sitting up against a wall, staring at nothing. "Hasn't said a word since the little buggers attacked, 'cept for a few screams. Scared out of 'is wits, i'll bet."
The captain went over to the musician, and indeed, no coherence was forthcoming on the bard's part. No doubt he'd snap out of it in a few hours, but if mere spiders had such a debilitating effect on him, he'd have a lot trouble in the days to come before this hunt was over...

ENCOUNTER:
Spoiler for Hidden:
It had been almost a week since the team set out. Food and water was scarce, and some soldiers had to risk drinking from the stream. The team hit a mountain passage, including one volcano, on the edge of the border to Aurdinas. An uphill climb was possible, but we'd have to develop a stride to make it a little less unforgiving. It was never dangerous on the previous trips to the gold mine, but we saw three silhouettes, allowing some of our soldiers to see a lion's mane and a dragon's wings. "Could this be the dragon?" many of us thought, including myself; "No, there's three of them. Even if there were three dragons, these creatures are much too small." Perhaps they could be the dragon's understudies?

On closer inspection, these creatures also have a stinger like the scorpions outside town. From the history I've learned about, these creatures looked like Manticores, so I gave them that name. The manticores looked down on us, as we tried to avoid their presence, though our team had their weapons at the ready. Not more than two minutes later, we saw those same figures circling above us, then... WHAM! Two soldiers were attacked from above by the manticores. They slashed at our soldiers with brute force. Only minor injuries were sustained, and the team was easily able to distract one of the manticores, killing it. The remaining two manticores started drooling their repulsive saliva. Our soldiers knew these manticores wanted blood, and only blood. With renewed vengeance, the manticores started stinging repeatedly at our team. Stingers hit our blades, even chipping some of our weapons. The gust the wings created was devastating to our troupe, and just left us open to the deadly stings. At least ten died from the manticores' stings, some dying more painful deaths than others. I thought it was blasphemy at first, the fact that I wasn't dead; me, a simple scribe, no armor or anything but my fellow comrades, still alive?

The few dozen soldiers left after these hardships were fighting with their life. Seconds turned to minutes, and minutes felt like hours, but the fighting died out soon. The squad survived, but soldiers were still dying due to the poison. I knew these were servants of the dragon. The team kept marching on, and many thought of creating memorials for the dead. All I could think about is the hardships the band has faced.

ENCOUNTER:
Spoiler for Hidden:
A stiff breeze was blowing through the mountain valley, bringing with it the smell of smoke and ashes. The captain wrinkled his nose. Even this far from the base of the volcano, its fire-born stench filled the air.
Either that, or they were getting closer to the dragon.

Before long, the army came to a stop at a waterfall. While the rest of the men took the opportunity to bathe themselves and refill their waterskins, the captain began perusing his map. It was deceptively easy to get lost in these hills, and this waterfall was one of the few prominent landmarks.
But before he had managed to plot out their course much farther than out of the valley, a yell from the water alerted him.
One of the bathers had been drifting peacefully in the pool, letting the spray wash the dirt and grime off his hair, when he noticed a face peeking out at him from the cliff wall. A face which was a mirror image of his own.

By the time the captain had made his way over, many of the men had already clustered around the strange creature. What had initially seemed to be a face was in fact the shell of a large crab-like creature. Its texture was weirdly glossy, and changed shape and colour whenever something went near it. As the soldier tested what it could change to, it regarded them quizzically with its small eyes, as if wondering what they were finding so interesting.
After a while, the caption carried it to dryer ground, where he started describing its appearance in his logbook. He had never encountered or heard of encounters with this beast before, and he knew the scribes would certainly be interested to hear about it.
As he began drawing a rough sketch of its claws, he heard a cry from the air, and looked up. Wyrm!, he thought. They were not so much a threat as they were a nuisance for a marching soldier. Quickly before it could divebomb anyone, he drew his bow and shot at it. The wyrm rolled and dodged the arc of his arrow-
Right into the path of a second.
Confusedly, the captain looked around. Barely anyone else had even been aware of the drake's presence, let alone drawn their bow.
Looking down, though, he saw that the creature's shell, which mere moments before had been the pale blue of the sky, now held a stark relief of his bow, Its line still twanging from the release.
The captain blinked twice, slowly retrieved his logbook, and began writing again.
They would be very interested in this creature.

Spoiler for Hidden:
Low Morale Is A More Persistent Issue Than Expected | BASIC TASK
Lots of walking makes people sad. Create an easy game for your troops to play amongst themselves while walking, to keep themselves entertained!

Spoiler for Free Ranged Organized Guerilla Soldiers:
FROGOPOLIS

Things you need to play
* Counters for Loyal Points (use pebbles or anything else to represent them)
* A 52-square board; squares must make a straight line (draw one with pencil and paper or carve one on soft ground, or use a deck of cards to represent each square with a face-down card; a typical set of playing cards has 52 cards overall, if you let the Jokers aside, so it is easy to use them as squares instead of carving or drawing them one by one)
* Player Figures (use stones or anything else to represent them, anything frog-like is much appreciated!)
* Protection Tokens (use stones or anything else to represent them).
* A dice... (come on, of course we got one somewhere within our backpacks! But even if we have not one with us, I am a Wizard! I can create a dice from thin air or summon one directly from my wizard tower or consult a terrible demonic creature through a ritual and kick its arse and send it to find one for us!)

Story
"You may be royal, but are you loyal too?" our great King Mathman shouted.
"To prove your loyalty you have to walk through the path of Frogopolis' politics, with everything that means for your honor or dishonor, your stasis or your movements, your protection or your vulnerability" our great King continued.
"So, are you ready for the challenge, my dear frog nobles?" Mathman ends his speech in an applause.

Preparation (Normal Mode)

After carving/drawing the 52 squares, draw/carve an "X" on each of the following ones; the 2nd, 4th, 8th, 10th, 12th, 16th, 22nd, 28th, 34th, 40th, 46th and 51st square. If you are using cards, place the Kings, Queens and Jacks face up in that areas to represent them.
After carving/drawing the "X" squares, draw/carve an "O" on each of the following ones; the 18th, 27th, 36th and 45th square. If you are using cards, place the Aces face up in that areas to represent them.
After carving/drawing the "O" squares, draw/carve an "Δ" on each of the following ones; the 5th, 20th, 30th and 50th square. If you are using cards, place the 10s face up in that areas to represent them.
After carving/drawing the "Δ" squares, draw/carve an "V" on each of the following ones; the 7th, 19th, 31st and 47th square. If you are using cards, place the 9s face up in that areas to represent them.
After carving/drawing the "V" squares, draw/carve an "#" on each of the following ones; the 6th, 15th, 33rd and 43rd square. If you are using cards, place the 8s face up in that areas to represent them.
After carving/drawing the "#" squares, draw/carve an "&" on each of the following ones; the 3rd, 18th, 29th and 44th square. If you are using cards, place the 7s face up in that areas to represent them.

Random Board Mode (usable only if you play the game with a board made with a deck of cards)

In the random board mode, you shuffle the deck with the cards. Then you draw each top card and place it face-up on the board next to the previous one till there are no cards left and the full board has been made (leave the Jokers out of the deck). If the card is a King, a Queen or a Jack, treat that card like an "X". If it is an Ace, treat it like an "O". If it is a 10, treat it like a "Δ". If it is a 9, treat it like a "V". If it is an 8, treat it like a "#". Finally, if it is a 7, treat it like an "&".
The random board mode is very useful if you want some randomization and/or you just got bored by playing the normal mode.

Edited Board Mode (usable only if you play the game with pencil and paper)

In the edited board mode, you can draw any number of "X", "O", "Δ", "V", "#" and "&" symbols as you like, but only one in each square. That way, you can edit the board (and the game's difficulty as a result) according to your liking.
The edited board mode is very useful if you find the game too easy or too difficult and/or you just got bored by playing the normal mode.

Game Rules

"X" areas are Dishonor areas and you lose 2 Loyal Points every time you end your turn on it, except if you have protection (see below).
"O" areas are Protection areas and you gain a Protection Token every time you end your turn on it. You may NOT have more than one of these. That means that if you already have a Protection Token and end your turn on an "O", you gain nothing.
"Δ" areas are Stasis areas and you lose a turn every time you end your turn on it.
"V" areas are Teleport areas and you may teleport to any other square with a "V" on it every time you end your turn on it.
"#" areas are Honor areas and you gain 1 Loyal Point every time you end your turn on it.
"&" areas are Running areas and you take an extra turn every time you end your turn on it.
Every time you end your turn on an "X" and your character has a Protection Token with him/her, you discard the Protection Token instead of losing 1 Loyal Point.

Players start from the first square, with 10 Loyal Points each, and roll a six-sided dice every time its their turn. They move as many squares as the dice result is.
If they reach the 52nd square, they move back to the 1st one instead.
If you run out of Loyal points, you are out of the game!
The goal of the game is to be the last player standing on the board with any Loyal Points left.

Have fun!

Spoiler for Super Secret Shadow Shielders Simply Standing Still:
Listen up folks. The road ahead is going to be long, and after a bit of walking, it might be a boring march. Hence, I have devised a game to make time pass faster. It is a variation of the infamous DootDanger's number game.

All of you choose a number between 2 and 48, secretly. Then, during the march, you can challenge anyone at any time. They cannot refuse the challenge. If their number is higher than yours, but not a multiple, you win, otherwise you lose. If both numbers are equal, both players lose. If there is a winner, he can choose to keep his number or take the loser's. The losers are eliminated. Everything, save the challenging and the results, is of course done secretly, so as to not alert anyone else to one's number.

When we set up camp, the last person that hasn't lost will get double rations. If there is more than one person that hasn't lost, nobody wins anything, so make sure to challenge a lot!

Spoiler for Pyrocloaks:
With most discussion regarding the dragon having already been expended, there was little to talk about. This was showing more obvious as all that could be heard was the sound of clattering armour and footsteps on the rock path, with no signs of any discussion.
"Ok troops, we will be having a break here, so rest up" the voice is hard to hear amongst the footsteps, but the numerous people at the front stopping made it somewhat obvious.

A wizard sat with a group of crusaders, with an idea in mind of how to keep morale up, and conversations prevalent. A this solution was a game, of sorts. A word game, that he had gotten inspiration of from the scribes.

"Are you nervous?" The wizard starts. The answer was obvious, but it was a way to start the conversation.
"Of course," one of them replies. The others nod in agreement, looking away from the wizard. Embarrassed of their nerves.
"You know that the best way to relieve nerves is to distract yourself. And while we don't have much here, that doesn't mean there's nothing to do!" the wizard, trying to lighten their moods, was feigning optimism. He too, was naturally nervous. But it was long too late to turn back now. The trek back home was dangerous, too much so for one individual, and those who had already opted out had turned back after the first few days.
"So what do you propose we do then?" a second crusader queried.
"A game, my dear comrade!"
"A game?"
"Yes! A game!" The other crusaders in the group were now starting to give the wizard more glances, curious of what his 'game' would be.
"And what is this game you speak of?" A third one spoke up. The wizard was glad to see the crusaders were showing more interest now.
"We take turns, picking an object we see…"
"Like… that flower over there?" the first crusader, speaking up again, pointed to a flower poking out of a bush near towards them.
"Yes, exactly like that. And then we make up a story on how this can be used to help slay the dragon!"
"So… we can say that the flower flew into the dragon's mouth, and poisoned it?"
"No no no!" another crusader interrupted, providing an idea of his own. "What if the flower had thorns, and flew into the dragon's eye? Then we slayed the distracted dragon!" Chuckles started to come from a few of the crusaders.
"Wait... what if the flower somehow dislodged a stalactite which hit the dragon in the head and knocked it out?" These chuckles soon turned to boisterous laughter, as more crusaders started to join in. These people obviously weren't scribes, but at least they were starting to be happier.
"No, you've got it all wrong, my friend! The flower caught fire from the dragon's breath, and the smoke suffocated the dragon!" the laughter grew intensely, as more people were starting to be drawn to the conversation.

The laughter started to die down. People drawn now became a crowd. All of them were smiling. The wizard recognised a few scribes amongst them as well, which somewhat surprised him.
"Ok, enough about the flower. What about that fencepost there?" a deep-voiced blacksmith said, one of the people drawn from the uproar earlier.
"Surely it was lodged in the dragon's mouth, preventing it from closing!"
"That wouldn't work! The dragon would burn it to a crisp!"
"What if someone hit a rock with the post? The rock would then hit the dragon, causing it to stagger and fall, allowing our armies to take it down!"
The uproar started again.

The wizard was able to escape the chaos, and was sitting by the rocks drinking from a canteen. The captain of one of the legions sat beside the wizard.
"This is the happiest I've seen them since we began the trek." he said. The wizard nodded to himself, smiling from what he achieved.
"Here's hoping it will last"
"We shall see" the captain looked towards the road ahead. "This journey will take weeks. And the closer we get to Aurdinas, the more nervous the men will become..."

The two sat in silence, waiting for the roar of laughter to die down before they got back on their journey.

Spoiler for The Tentacle's Grip:
Shellstring

It is common knowledge that if one holds a seashell to their ear, the sound of the ocean can be heard, echoing with a mysterious power. This can be explained scientifically as actually being the noise and vibrations of one's own surroundings resonating into the particular geometry of the shell's shape. That explanation is, of course, wrong. This phenomenon is in fact a messenger technology of the Frostkracken Empire, used by citizens and militants to send messages to friends and agents who have ventured ashore. The shells find their way under your boot, claw or suction cup if they are intended for you. But once you hear the message, what do you to with the shells?

Rules:

Shellstring is a winner-take-all collectible shell game of bad humor, wit, and strategy. Each shell (which you can find on any beach or ocean floor) resonates with a short phrase which unbeknownst to (most of) the players, make up secret orders to Frostkracken agents when combined in the proper order. Shells must be found and collected by the players prior to the game.

The official goal of Shellstring is to create the most obscenely humorous Shellstring (in layman's terms, a sentence) possible. Players take turns adding shells to make the Shellstring longer. If no more shells can be added, then the string is assessed. If the string passes muster, then whoever played the last shell adds the entire string of shells to their collection. If a majority of players decide the Shellstring is not funny, then the shells are redistributed back to their original owners instead and a new Shellstring is started. If a player has no more valid shells to add, they lose the game. Shellstring continues until one player has won all the shells.

An example Shellstring:
{Agent Green} - {will take the} - {big old orange} - {to location} - {rubber ducky} - {under the pretense of} - {howling through} - {the Emperor's slimy backside!}

Spoiler for Frostkracken Orders (Some Coded):

The enemy is under the pretense of peace. Inform them of their errors.

The Emperor has ordered moved to location 'Toadfish'.

Last Warning! By the emperor's slimy backside, follow protocol land-shark!

Just getting in before anyone complains:

The word 'depict' does not mean it needs to be an image.

A)1) represent by a drawing, painting, or other art form.
A)2) portray in words; describe.

I used another art form, and I portrayed in words, described.

Good luck to all :)

Same as before, my votes go here, and I'll update every now and then until all submissions have been reviewed.

Spoiler for Royalty:
FROGS: I can appreciate that this submission was drawn in real life, however I feel that it could have done with a little extra planning. Scenery consists of a bridge, a rock, a mushroom (I think) and various foliage. Dialogue is very basic. There's not a lot of detail to demonstrate the landscape of an amphibious realm, and I think this submission would have worked better as a static image or animated online with a little more time put into it.

S7: Other than a vague sense of darkness, I wasn't sure what to expect from Ombrella's landscape. The submission seemed to be a forest with a minimal palette. The artwork itself is very basic with almost no detail on the landscape itself, instead focusing on the indistinct actions of the silhouettes in the foreground. The description uses references to other tasks as a substitute for actual content and adds very little to the image.

TTG: I will listen to this when I am able to use headphones. Initially the song seems a lazy substitute for an image. However, upon reading, the lyrics are put together really very well, and slip into a steady tune in my head with few deviations. The song does a good job of describing both the landscape and fauna of the Frostkracken Empire.
EDIT: Having listened to the recording, I actually preferred the in-my-head version. I won't be adjusting my voints to account for this.

PC: This image is much more like what I was expecting to see from the task. It bears many similarities to S7's submission however the landscape is much more detailed and it has been painted in the real world which is always a much more difficult task than the final image would imply.

I believe that PC and TTG did the best job of depicting their landscape. To FROGS and S7, I would suggest that you read what the task is asking you to do more carefully.

Spoiler for Bard:
FROGS: This submission feels very last minute - it's essentially a simple design copypasted several times. There's no context to the image and it plays on a trope - ghosts - rather than something more original. I also fail to understand how a single boggart could become thirteen ghosts, or why it would become specifically thirteen. This could have been explained with a little description.

PC: While the subject itself lacks originality, the presentation is actually rather well done. I especially like how the lighter-grey border implies a sense of depth. The description seems to imply that Bards are a different species to those of Zyarhelm, or that they're imported from some country with particular issues involving Scavenging Spiders.

S7: I honestly have no clue what's happening here. I gather that the foreground character is the boggart, turned into some mutant combination of Medusa, a crab, something with four arms, and are those butterfly antennae? I guess it's either produced or summoned two bugs which are chasing the shirtless purple person. To be fair, I'd be scared of bugs interrupting me during a shower. Having said that, the boggart has a distinctly un-scary friendly look, and the description exacerbates this.

TTG: The crux of the submission is humour rather than fear and I will admit that it made me laugh. The artwork itself is also of consistent quality. While I don't know what role clowns play in a tentacle civilisation, or why they are (seemingly) universally feared, I know that seeing that monstrosity in real life would be terrifying.

Scoring for this one was actually very difficult. In the end I opted to give equal winning voints to TTG, S7 and PC for humour, originality and quality of artwork respectively. I would like to see all artists break out of their stylistic comfort zone soon.

Spoiler for Crusader:
When I wrote this task, what I was looking for was imaginative ways to dispel these goblins. I don't expect anyone to have chosen to flat-out kill them. Let's see...

PC: Strategy revolves around distracting them with shinies until they somehow all kill each other. If you assume that goblins will do *anything* to get the most stuff, this works. If they have a scrap of intelligence, maybe not. The explanation for the goblins makes lots of assumptions that may or may not happen. Strategy for the deck follows solid logic. Overall, decent submission.

TTG: The tentacles seem to have covered every eventuality. Reasoning for each card is explained reasonably well. The general idea seems to be to lure the goblins in and then slowly kill them off, giving them a chance to run away. This submission earned the most voints.

S7: This one was more about feeding the goblins. Though the description was brief each point in the goblin strategy was covered well, though a deck plan was a little lacking.

FROGS: The defence was much of a step-by-step from each role of the team, directing the goblins into doing something and then preventing them from doing that. It seemed a little odd that the team would bring along shards specifically to bribe away an attacker.

Spoiler for Enchanter + Scribe:
As a note to myself: Enchanter, the card themselves. Scribe, pretty much everything else.

Spoiler for Enchanter:
FROGS: Shapeshifter and Mimic were an interesting combination. I think Shapeshifter should have costed more, personally, and Mimic would be better as 1-time-use active ability rather than a separate card. However, the implementation of the reusable ability was novel.
A card that fights another would be expected to have hardy stats but Brown Pelican's defence is decidely mediocre. The flavour text detracted from the submission - "soccer" is an American term and hence not relatable to my British self, and I don't know what relevance it had in the first place.
Spring Familiar seemed far too powerful. Unupped, an automatic and free Bioluminescence machine. Upped, a CC blocker. However, any qualms I had about the previous flavour text were blown out of the water by my love of The Stanley Parable.

TTG: Basalt Shaper was very interesting, however I forsee a deck with 54 Earth Towers and 6 Basalt Artisans.
Vinegrabber was somewhat a similar concept, permanent manipulation and all that. I liked how both cards only had their effect for one turn and then that was the end of their usefulness. I think they would be unbalanced in the game however they're very interesting ideas.

S7: Floating Foliage had a simple concept however the ability cost should have been more than 0.
Stalkwing seems like a Vulture, just twice as potent. Three times for Blackwing. I'm not sure if that's overpowered or not, but I felt like it was.
Mud Lurker is the best card I've seen in a while. Get some art on that and send it to CI&A. It was this card that secured S7 the most voints for the Enchanter component of this task.

PC: Deja vu much :P
I'm unsure which Scavenging Spider came first, and I was about to criticise for unoriginality however the mechanic on the spider was interesting enough to maintain my interest.
Manticore was very much overpowered, like a huge buff to Lava Golem.
I feel like Masked Crab was a reference to Spycrab from TF2. The mechanic was fairly basic.

Spoiler for Scribe:
Time to review the tasks that broke the spreadsheet...

FROGS: Story was short enough to hold my attention and it was easy to read. However, it seems a little unfinished. If all the characters died in Round 2, I anticipate the next few rounds to be quite dull. That aside, I would have liked a little more description of the creatures themselves. Fighting the creatures seemed a little cliched.

TTG: I like the emphasis on the difficulty of navigating the land. Character development on Basalt was gorgeous and there were continual references to aquatic life I would never have considered. The line "until such time as the gold mines could be properly flooded" stands out to me. While ordinarily I'd criticise a fight scene, the initial part with the golem was refreshing enough that I didn't mind. I feel like I'm supposed to understand "frilled and with hair made out of hexagons". All in all this was a very good story.

S7: Without a fight scene, this was refreshing. However, while I could appreciate the main character's interest, I found the way of writing too passive to hold my interest. I was able to read to the end but if it had continued much longer I may not have been able to. Having said that, the detailed descriptions were to be appreciated.

PC: I wasn't a fan of having one story per creature. I enjoyed the first story, particularly that it had actual consequences rather than a nice little fight where everyone goes home happy at the end. By the second story I was growing tired of the fight trope, and the consequences of the battle were more severe although it was starting to feel a little gimmicky. I very much liked, however, that the Manticores were servants of the Dragon rather than natives of Zyarhelm. I was relieved to see that the third story was less a battle than an exercise in curiosity.

This was another difficult task to judge, but I gave the most points to Tentacles and Pyrocloaks.

Spoiler for Wizard:
FROGS: Seems like Snakes and Ladders with extra rules. The game is almost completely linear with very little skill involved with the sole exception of Teleport tiles. I don't think I would enjoy playing this.

S7: This game is very, very simple. So simple that I made a spreadsheet to work out which number is best to choose...

Click to enlarge. It turns out that the best number to pick is 7, and you can't win if you pick 48. This is the only task so far that has motivated me to do something, so this one is a winner for me.

PC: A very different submission to what I was expecting. The game itself is merely humorous conversation, and the submission is a story rather than a game. The ideas the soldiers are producing are delirious, but at least they find it funny.

TTG: I can see how this game would be amusing. It seems similar to Explosm's Joking Hazard - I'm sure there are more known versions of games like this, just none come to mind at the minute. The only criticism I can make is that how will it be played once the tentacles leave the shore?

Spoiler for Bonus:
When it comes to the winner's icon, I'm clear about what I do and do not like. Pardon my bluntness.

I'm not a fan of Pyrocloaks' submission. It is red text on a beige background. The image lacks depth and the sense of celebration I'd expect from the award of this event.

I don't know which of S7's and FROGS' submissions I like best. S7's has a cartoony style that I don't like. FROGS' design is more sleek and elegant, though it could lose (or reduce) the black borders on the shapes. Overall, I'd lean towards S7 as it better captures the theme of the event.

I like TTG's submission. It is full (as opposed to having lots of space in it) and captures the theme of the event very well. It's impressive how much data one can fit into such a small space. I assume the red bit is the wing of the dragon - if it is, I'd prefer it if it curved off towards the lower left as if the wing belongs to the 6.

I'd also like to mention that, if you've voted on one task and you want to vote on another, you don't need to resubmit your first votes. Just leave that task blank and your previous votes for that task will stay the same. If you want to remove your votes, give everyone a big fat 0.

My unofficial votes as usual

Spoiler for Royalty:
Well, music. While I do not believe that this osng is nearly as good as the rushing river, it is still very well executed. I also loved FROGS little gif, it made me laugh :). Pyrocloaks' image is also very beautiful. Good work from all teams here.

Spoiler for Bard:
TTG: eh. I see this one as trying to do too much again. It is very well done, however, and would still receive a few points from me. FROGS: I see the ghosts. I do not see how it is scary or why it scares your bard. Perhaps a bit more description would have helped. Pyrocloaks : I think this is a perfect pixel art use. This drawing is amazing. Props.

Spoiler for Crusader:
TTG: I'd have to give points for originality, considering all other teams went for AM. Also tying element to deck, makes it great. I do not see however how this deck could win other than deckout. Pyrocloaks: Having both antimatter and other forms of CC seems counterintuitive. You either want to pacify with the goblins, or kill them. Doing both makes no sense to me. FROGS: The same comment as TTG, deckout is the only win condition. Not that it is bad in and of itself, but I dislike it personally.

Spoiler for Wizard:
Frogs: I put the task in wordcounttool. It counts 1009 words. Rules explicitly say that non-scribe tasks cannot be over 1000 words. Pyrocloaks : I would have liked a more concise explanation of what hte game is. Say I'm a lazy person, and I am, and do not wish to go through the whole text, a tl;dr could have been added. TTG: Here my english may be at fault, but I do not understand the game. At all.

Spoiler for Bonus:
I really love all of those, congratulations to all team. Extra props to TTG though.

Spoiler for enchantibeORscribanter:
Frogs : Doesn't that make 4 cards?TTG: tl;dr. I tried, I really did, but I got lost in text and lost interest.Pyrocloaks: I'm really scared about the balance of those. Espescially the masked crab. 12 dials? No thank you.

@ji412jo: I used Word Counter (https://wordcounter.net/) and it says 999 words 5,150 characters.

Interesting how different sites gives different word counts. I guess we'll just have to wait for brawlmasters to tell us which tool they use.
