Brawl #6 - Round 1 - Voting https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=64030.msg1255833#msg1255833

Time until voting for Round 1 ends:
Time's up!

How to vote
All you have to do to vote in Brawl #6 is to follow these four simple steps.
Note that unlike previous Brawls, Brawl participants are not allowed to vote.

1. Read
Read through all the submissions below to see what you actually want to vote for. Be sure to not accidentally miss one!

2. Decide
After reading, decide how you want to vote. Remember, you have 10 voting points ('voints') to split up between teams for each task. If you really like two of them but not the others, you could vote 5-5-0-0. Or if you have a clear ranking in mind, you could vote 4-3-2-1. Or split it up in any other way you want. The only limits is that you cannot give more than 5 voints to any one team, and you have to spend all 10 voints on each task you vote on. Any votes that do not fulfill these conditions will not be counted.

3. Vote
Use the form in the spoiler below to actually vote! If you are a member of the Voting Panel, you should definitely try to vote for each task, but if you are not, you can if you want decide to only vote for some tasks. You may submit some votes then come back later and submit the rest of them, if you want. You may also vote as many times as you like, but only the most recent will be valid.

Spoiler for Voting form:

4. Write
Write a post in this topic where you tell the rest of the community why you liked who you liked (Or why you didn't like who you didn't like). You have to give at least some reasoning for your vote on whatever team you gave the most voints, but feel free to give some feedback to all teams if you want! You are supposed to tell who you liked and why, and if you want you can state the exact voints given (but this is not required). All voints will be revealed at the end of the voting phase, together with the totals to see who actually won!

In the event that you decide to change your vote, please ensure you do one of the following after submitting the form again: Send us a PM to notify us, write a new post saying you changed your vote, or add a line about it in your explanation post. This is to confirm that it's really you who's voting.

Please note that in order for your vote to be valid, you MUST do step 4. If you don't, we will assume that your vote was submitted illegally by one of the Brawlers and it will be ignored.

If you have any questions about the voting procedure, don't hesitate to ask!

Feel free to scroll down to see the submissions for this round...

The King/Queen's Speech | BASIC TASK
You are leaving your country to do battle with the Dragon. Write a farewell speech to your people! Make sure to remind them how important and royal you are.

Spoiler for Hidden:
Spoiler for Super Secret Shadow Shielders Simply Standing Still:
Here we are, it is the day. The day in which I'm going to have to leave you all. I am not doing this by choice, but alas, I have to go. I know you will all miss me, but I cannot let the Dragon be killed by the Tentacle's Grip, the Free Ranged Organized Guerrilla Soldiers or the Pyrocloaks. As you all know, the legend says that the king or queen of a nation will bring the Ultimate Power to it's nation if he or she kills the Dragon. I usually do not believe in legends, but Vitalstatistix showed us it is true. Remember my words, people of Ombrella. I am not seeking power for us, or for myself, but we must not let the other countries have it. Because who knows what could happen to the world if such power fell into the wrong hands.. I entrust Jenkar, strong war veteran, to ensure the safety of the dusk mantle, hiding our country's location from maps and from the gaze of evil . It is the Dusk mantle that I won while working with the Nyan Shark Squad, that I since used to create this safe haven for innocent, pure citizens and protectors of earth. We started small, but by standing together, we've grown strong enough to thrive. I shall now go with my army to keep the rest of the world safe. Remember to keep our location secret. Know that our wizard has prepared a secret weapon that will ensure our victory. We shall be the guardians of this world, we shall do all in our power to protect it while staying shrouded. We shall be the shielders in the shadows, but for now I ask of you to simply stand your ground. For I will come back victorious, and then we will achieve peace.

Spoiler for Pyrocloaks:
Citizens of Zyarhelm! I step forward to you today to announce that I, Jarl of Zyarhelm and leader of the guard, am leaving temporarily to conquer the scaled beast that has plagued our land with death and fear. Yes, the dragon. I presume some will be willing to join me in the fight to fend off this monster. Thus so, feel free to sign up at the booth near the gates! I need the strongest, most courageous warriors. Some consider me a hero, but I beg to disagree, it is all of you, who are the heroes, we are the ones who would fight for their home, and risk their lives doing so in the process! Every one of you will be considered a hero in this land, and I would be honored to have you fight the dragon with me! That being said, I must bid this city farewell for a few days. If you wish to have any questions answered while I'm gone, I'm putting the head of the guard in charge of my duties. In the meantime, there will be a farewell feast at my palace, all are welcome, may we eat together, and bid each other the best of luck before the adventure begins! Thank you, everyone! The feast will begin in an hour!

Spoiler for Transcript:
I speak to you now, not as your Emperor, not as Herald of the Tides, The Voice of the Ocean, Coast-Scourge, High Commander of The Tentacle’s Grip or any of my other titles or honours. No, I speak as one of you, my children, for at my core, beneath the glory of my accomplishments, I am simply a creature of the deep, like all of you.

The Frostkracken Empire is under threat. Perhaps not today, not directly, but I foresee a frantic, bloody struggle for power in Elementia. A sprawling reef of our enemies is spread beyond the coastal cities we have claimed as our own, and the rock that reef is rooted in… is gold. I cannot with a clear conscience enjoy the luxury of the deep with you, my children, while our manifold foes seek to plunder Aurdinas. Whoever succeeds in relieving the dragon of his hoard will be the richest creature in our world, and you can bet your brightest goldfish they will use that power to come for us.

So? We beat them to it.

This very night, we will launch our own assault on the City of Gold. It has caused me great anguish resolving who to trust with this voyage. Our fearless raiding parties have performed admirably to expand the Empire beyond the blue. Half the coastline of Elementia now answers to me - to us! They have carried out my will so expertly, in fact, that you have been blessed with my own presence for more turns of the tide than I ever thought possible. Yet even if I sent them all, along with every single beast of the brine, from Kracken to krill, I would still know I had not done enough to protect and serve you.

I speak to you now, with a gutted heart... for I must do my duty, for the good of the Empire, and leave you to plunder Aurdinas myself. When I return, it will be to a more prosperous civilization than any of us could ever have imagined! Do not mourn my departure, instead rejoice! For our enemies in Elementia are about to drown in our assault, and all the gold in Aurdinas will soon be brought to you, in the grasp of The Tentacle's Grip!

Spoiler for Free Ranged Organized Guerilla Soldiers:
My loyal amphibious dwellers, the mighty red dragon has but taken the lands of our neighbor Aurdinas and all the golden wealth they had. I ask you all, my loyal subjects, those of you who are brave enough to follow me to recover that stolen gold soon to be ours. Some of you may die, but that is a risk I am willing to take for the massive rewards it will bring our kingdom! Dragons burn down the villages of loved ones, and thieves steal gold from the rich, but we must be better than that for we are all amphibious dwellers and we must not let harm come to those around us. We must take back Aurdinas for our children, and our children's children, and expand our own mighty kingdom. I, your beloved king and ruler, ask you to look at the marvelous habitats I have worked hard to build and remember my love for you when we are all rich with new found gold! We do not need sloppy tentacles, nor to shield our disfigured faces in shadowy secrets or cloaks of fire, for we are ruthless guerilla soldiers who proudly display our amphibious ways for all to see. Answer me this: Are we ordinary dwellers, or are we F.R.O.G.S.!?!

The F.R.O.G.S. Battallion is led and managed by a group of six elites:
Myself, Battlemaster, Firefly. Small, but powerful, always mustering passion for the cause.
ARTHANASIOS, Sage, a fearsome cockatrice. He polymorphed himself decades ago, but retains power in this form, acting always as a constant source of wisdom.
Lunaris, Schrodinger's Cat. Not much of a fighter, but always there, even when she's not, to offer comfort to each and every soldier of the cause.
DoubleCapitals, Enchanter, Deja Vu. When he's around, we always seem to see double...I suppose that's why they call him so. And on the battlefield, he alone can surround an entire squadron of enemies.
Fabian, beauty seeker and creator, asked to take on the form of a thing of nature, a Forest Spectre, to better attune with his element. He serves the cause well in this form, creating beauty of anything, natural or artificial, keeping morale up throughout the ranks.
And Finally, our Fearless King, uncontested leader of the F.R.O.G.S., Mathman. In times of crisis, he inspires us all with his almost magical presence.

Equally important as the elites is the bulk of our ground forces, bearing the namesake of the cause: The Horned Frogs. Without them, the battalion would be but a party of mere helpless heroes.
With our ferocious spirit, spontaneous will and undying loyalty to our king, the F.R.O.G.S. will never fall, and will take the kingdom of Aurdinas for the cause!

Spoiler for Because I went overboard on flavor:
Each upgraded creature represents a member of the team:
Myself - Firefly
ARTH - Cockatrice
Luna - Cat
DC - Deja Vu
Fabian - Spectre
Math - Nymph
The bulk of our army is made of basic Horned Frogs.
To represent our ferocious spirit, adrenaline.
To represent our undying loyalty, heal.
And to represent our spontaneous will (and to make the deck actually work), Supernova.

The elite soldiers of the Zyarhelm army, the Graviton Guards, gathered. They were equipped with Heavy Armor, Trebuchets, and Titans. They had prepared the enchantments of Protect Artifact, Basilisk Blood, and Animate Weapon.

They were ready to slay the dragon.

Strategy: The deck aims to quickly do as much damage as it can with the Graviton Guards and Animated Titans. In case burst damage is needed, Trebuchets can launch a Titan at the opponent.

Card-by-Card Breakdown:
  • Gravity Tower: The main source of quanta in our deck, the quanta they produce on play allows to be able to play a Graviton Guard on turn 1.
  • Graviton Guard: A very cheap source of damage at 2 quanta for 4 attack, Graviton Guards can easily rush down our opponent.
  • Titan: For 5 quanta, Titans give 8 points of unpreventable damage. In addition to this, when flown, it has an incredible 50 HP for our Trebuchets.
  • Trebuchet: Our source of burst damage, a single unbuffed Animated Titan can deal 34 damage! Also able to launch 90kg over 300 metres with a counterweight.
  • Heavy Armor: Our Graviton Guards are already quite beefy, but just in case some additional HP is needed, this can quickly add an extra 6 points. Also quite nice as an extra few points of damage with the Trebuchets.
  • Protect Artifact: Against the destructive forces of a dragon, keeping our Trebuchets protected is very important. This is exactly what this card does.
  • Basilisk Blood: Acts as both a 6 turn stall and as a 20 HP buff for our Titans.
  • Animate Weapon: What's better than playing 1 Titan? Playing more of them! Also allows us to actually launch Titans with Trebuchets.

Aves, the Vengeful! From the darkest depths of the ocean, he has never been seen in the flesh. All that betrays his presence is a small trail of tears and blood.

Something Like This | BASIC TASK
Many of your countrymen have never seen a dragon. Make a card depicting a creature that is common in your country, that you could use to explain what a dragon is like.

Spoiler for Hidden:
Spoiler for Pyrocloaks:
*Gasps are heard from a large group of people crowding around a middle aged man preaching about the recent dragon attack on Aurdinas*

"A dragon has attacked Aurdinas! The government is keeping this information from us as they are conspiring with the dragons!" someone in the crowd yells.
A cloaked enchanter passing by, recently having taken up the task of slaying this creature, feels obliged to calm down the situation, after hearing the preposterous claims made by some people.

"This dragon has claimed the gold mines! And who knows? Maybe they could come for us next!" The preacher exclaims, bathing in the ecstasy of the attention he has sought for, for so long.

"B...but wait..." a young girl begins to query, her soft voice drowned out by the noise of the crowd. "W... what does a dragon look like...?"

Mutters are scattered across the crowd, before one man of decent age quietens the crowd.
"Young girl, dragons are beastly creatures. With the wings of a bat--"
"And the scales of a lizard!" A younger man interrupts.
"And don't forget they breathe fire!" A woman adds on.

By this stage, people are spouting claims of what they believe a dragon looks like. Some true, some ludicrous to think of (including an individual who believed dragons excreted slime from thorns under their chin).

The preacher, now realising that the situation is getting out of hand, becomes overwhelmed and is unable to say anything to calm the uproar. The Enchanter, quiet until now, walks to the stage and orders silence.

"Not much is known of dragons, and many things shouted here may be true. But one thing is for sure. They have immense destructive power. The capabilities to level towns and cities in an instant. They are more similar to a Mammoth, in this sense, than any other creature stated..."

Worried gasps and discussions flood the crowd, unknowing of the dragon's strength until now.

"But fear not townsfolk!" the Enchanter starts again. "The king has gathered the finest of adventures and warriors across many lands to aid in the downfall of the dragon. These adventurers are trained and armed to be able to take down this beast! And we-- they... will do everything in their power to keep the lands safe!"
The crowd shouts and cheers, as beads of tears form in the Enchanter's eyes.
The Enchanter knows of the perils they will face. And knows they may not come back alive. But the townsfolk do not need to know this. All they need to know is that they will be safe. To feel security knowing that dragons will never be a problem to them.

"A hawk? How can such a petite creature even compare to the majestic size of a dragon?"
"Well... we have to explain it to our heroes... and we have to make some form of comparison, right? Remember how much of a headache it was to explain what a platypus was to our people?"
No answer, but silent nods and grunts of approval were heard across the table.
"There's nothing that can really stand up in comparison to a fearsome dragon though... so let's look at it another way..."
I unroll the illustrations of dragons from adventures of long ago.
"They have been treacherous foes to our people... everywhere they roam, they leave our villages in ruin..."
"And how does this have anything to do with the hawk...? What do they even have in common? They both... fly, I guess?"
"Ah.... but what matters is what they do in principle... let me explain."
I open another book - an encyclopedia of the animals in our country, turning to a page on the animal I'm about to describe.
"This little creature here, our friendly hawk... pretty harmless to us, though right?"
I flip the page. The bird is depicted mid-flight, its talons clawing on a small creature. It doesn't seem to be distinguishable, but it looks like a rodent-like creature.
"Not so much for the rat over there. To it, the hawk spells certain doom. Certain death."
"Just like how the hawk is a nightmare for the little rodent, so is the dragon to us. Except you know, much scarier. The hawk merely has its talons as its weapon."
"The dragon, though, has its flames."

Card Notes:
Spells do not cause reflection.
Reflection occurs only by direct abilities, not AoE damage.
If more than one Scaled Leviathan or Scaled Jörmungandr are on the field, and one is targeted, only one 'wave' of reflected targeting will occur.
If the targeting ability would kill this creature, it is still reflected, before death.
Lecture Transcript from Zoology Professor Linargo Gill:
Listen up, mermen! We have a foe the likes of which you have never laid eyes on, and it is of vital importance you understand that which you might face!
Dragons. Let me put them in terms where you might grasp the vague scale of our enemy. And scales are where I'll start.
Imagine our great Scaled Leviathan. Anything you attack them with, they will blast back in equal measure. Dragon scales may not reflect in the same way, but they certainly deflect a large portion of missile damage, and are resistant to spells also. They absorb, rather than reflect, if you will.
Now, a large portion of the Leviathan's threat comes from its ability to blast enemies with light. It even can shine that light on itself, reflecting damage on all around. Dragons bypass that reflection, and simply rain liquid fire from its grizzled maw.
Finally, the speed and strength of Jörmungandr as it pumps its vast body through the ocean is incredible to behold. It should be impossible for such a huge beast to move so quickly through the water. Now imagine a creature of similar bulk, flying through the sky with the same speed and agility as a Jörmungandr in water.
Now, do you understand the foe that lies ahead?

Magic Doesn't Have To Make Sense | COMBO TASK
Scribe: Write the instructions for a secret magical procedure (eg a spell, ritual, potion recipe) that will grant you an advantage in the ensuing quest!
Wizard: Tell us the story of how you were able to perform this procedure! If it's a potion recipe, where did you find the ingredients? If it's a spell, where did you learn it?

Spoiler for Hidden:
Spoiler for Super Secret Shadow Shielders Simply Standing Still:
Spoiler for Wizard:
To cast the spell, you first need to draw some of your own blood. A small pricking of the finger should be enough. Then, place your bloodied hand on your shadow. You then have control of it, and any shadow it touches. These shadows become able to affect the physical world if manipulated out of the surface they lie on, being as hard as steel. The reverse is also true, any wound sustained by the shadow will happen to its owner. As soon as the hand is removed, all shadows manipulated snap back in place.

Spoiler for Scribe:
Once brought and activated in our great country, the Dusk Mantle had many subtle influences on the world around us. It made the shadows deeper, more defined, more... real. As they strengthened, more and more people became aware. They embraced the shadows around them, the protection they gave at night. Eventually, their power was discovered.
This happenned at a bar brawl, or so the story goes. A man hit another with his glass, smashed it. From the ensuing wound, blood dripped. In the following melee, he eventually fell, and another voice altogether adressed the people.
The shadows bargained. The blood gave them power, power to move, power to interact with the world around them. In exchange for that, they were willing to give us control, for a bit.
They infused us with knowledge of how they were awakened by the dusk mantle. With it, we are now able to awaken shadows anywhere, and exchange power for control.

Spoiler for The Tentacle's Grip:
They say a shark can smell one drop of blood in gallons of water...

Libraries are large, quiet spaces intended for the scholarly and inquisitive. Established to collect, nurture and share knowledge, they serve as cornerstones of the academic community and are a point of pride for any kingdom wealthy enough to support one. They are a testament to the progress of the modern era, where any elemental can enter a quiet room and gawk at anything from works of the classical greats to the mad ramblings of contemporary tinkerers, from ancient lightning spells to the schematics for the latest Graviton Guard™ model. The greatest libraries rival palaces, where thousands of researchers can pore over tomes and scrolls in their ever-important quest for more knowledge. Libraries are perhaps one of the most important developments of the past century, a truly revolutionary concept that has forever changed how elementals will record and share information. Naturally, the Frostkracken Empire has looted a dozen such places in the last year alone.

It should be common knowledge that paper does not tend to react well to water. This is a rather serious impediment to the organization of looted works into a central location-- after all, the capital of the Frostkracken Empire is underwater. Therefore, the Emperor has ordered all scrolls and tomes to be transcribed onto enchanted, waterproof parchment. Of course, papers were not the only things captured in the raids...

"SCRIBE!"

"Y-yes commander s-sir?" This stuttering paper pusher being one of the less fortunate examples.

"This page is GARBAGE! It has graffiti and unauthorized notes written everywhere on it!" the commander waved the offending page for another moment before slamming it back onto the desk.

"B-but y-you ordered all things to be copied, exactly! Into the n-new format. S-sir. I spent days finding the right paint to match those inks!" the scribe wailed.

"This is barely readable! Look at it! JUST LOOK AT IT!"

Hesitantly, the writer took the page from the desk.

"But these notes are useful! L-look, they give advice!" The scribe helpfully pointed out a line written in red highlighter.

The overseer resisted the urge to sigh. The words, (must be aquatic), didn't seem particularly useful. Grabbing a pen and the paper back, he scratched it out. Unfortunately, making the whelp cry for an hour wouldn't help solve his problems. Even if it was fun. "Listen slave, the Emperor has ordered preparations for the assault on Aurdinas, which we have been tasked to help. We are three weeks behind schedule in organizing all of this junk, one of which I now know was your fault from copying vandalism of all things. My tentacles are on the line here, and if I go down, you'll be fish food. If you want to find something helpful, find me something, anything, that has anything to do at all with a fire-breathing, flying leviathan with an unhealthy obsession for gold."

"W-well, what about that Rite you're holding? The Aur-am seeker. That means gold, right?"

This wasn't going to work. There was no blasted way that this ridiculous ritual found by a frustratingly incompetent scribe was going to save his reputation after being 6 weeks behind schedule. Four days just to find a bloody shark. Three more to convince its trainer to sign the necessary liability agreements. A week for the requisition orders to go through for four bars of gold and all the rest of the alchemical junk. And then another blasted week to actually do it! And even if it did work, why had the alchemists bothered! If they could make a shark smell gold instead of the iron in blood, why by the Emperor's slimy backside couldn't they just make the bloody metal directly? Oh sure, Mr Alchemist, don't worry about turning Iron into Gold, your work with shark nostrils is just fine!

"Sir... I think... I think we have done it..."

The mutilated slave twisted in anguish. The runes carved into his back glowed a vicious red, as the Seal on the sharks's fin flashed brightest gold. In a gargling, guttural voice, the slave sputtered...

"I.. I smell it. I want the blood-metal. I must find it."

To the overseer's amazement, the shark launched itself at the beach, and dived, flailing into the land. With a small fountain of sand an a faint rusting sound, it disappeared into the earth.

"I will find it... past this man-dwelling, it is further... not in this river, it is deeper"

The stunned overseer bellowed at the scribe "Write down every word that abomination utters! Congratulations men, we have ourselves a Sniffer-Shark!"

Spoiler for Pyrocloaks:
Spoiler for Dragon's Demise:
As a royal country, we don't let anything stay in our path... especially dragons; that's why we have our own substance known as the "Dragon's Demise." This concoction is used to weaken the scaly armour of the dragon, allowing for standard weapons to attack and kill the beast.

You will need:
  • Tucker Flowers
  • Molten Steel
  • Any form of Infected Blood
  • Smoke (The darker, the better)

As well as:
  • Any weapon, preferably a Sword, Lance, Axe, or Bow.
  • Liquid Adhesive
  • A blunt object (mortar & pestle, etc)
  • Flasks or other containers

For the consumable version, replace Liquid Adhesive with Vitamin B12 and ignore the requirement of a weapon.

The weapon is what you will use to fight the dragon.

For this substance, it is highly recommended you grab the smoke first. You will need to make sure it adjusts to the confined container. Then, mix the Molten Steel and Liquid Adhesive (or Vitamin B12 if going for the edible version) and place it in a separate bottle. Pick off at least 6 petals that belong to Tucker Flowers and grind them with the blunt object.

Warning: Do NOT put whatever blunt object you used in either bottle.

Put the ground Tucker Petals in the bottle with the smoke, then wait at least 30 minutes so the petals turn brown. When ready, mix both bottles and finish the recipe by placing a very small amount of infected blood in the bottle. If the liquid turns metallic-red in color, that means it's complete.

When ready, coat the metal part of the weapon with the non-consumable version (or the tip of the arrows if using a bow) or drink the consumable version to vastly increase stamina.

Though either version is fine alone, it is suggested you use both versions for maximum effectiveness. It is also recommended to apply both as close to the fight as possible. The drinkable lasts 10-12 hours, and dosage is generally 1/4 cup per person.

Spoiler for A tale of dragons and knights!:
We'd heard tales of dragons attacking other lands, however those stories were lost in the times. And few documents remained on how the ancients killed those beasts.
Thankfully, we were left with some information that could help us.

Dragon scales had always been known as being hard as stone. Thus, it was understandable when we found out that there seemed to have been a rigorous trial and error process until someone managed to cut off a limb of a dragon. It was small, perhaps a finger, though it was enough. Before the fight, the army had coated their weapons and armour in a strange liquid. The armour coating has been lost, but parts of what they used to coat the weapons remained.

What we were left with was a recipe containing "blood, infected from wounds of dragon's claws," and "smoke, risen from flames of dragon's breath." Even with this information, we were unsure what to do next, since smoke and blood do not react with each other in any way. It was safe to say that there was something more, something more obscure, that we needed.

And then we heard news of dragons rising again.

We were almost certain that they would not come anywhere near us, however the need for this "Dragon Potion" was greater than ever. Nobody knew where the dragons came from, however they were terrorising many cities across many lands. Wizards were sent to gather any information regarding the beasts, but the results were devastating. Many went missing, many more were reported dead by the scribes who came back alone. Most reports were of overzealous Wizards attempting to take "samples" from sleeping dragons and whelps, not accounting for their incredible sensitivity to motions in the ground. An unknown trait which the dragons seem to have evolved after their first war with humans.

That isn't to say we didn't gain valuable information. Reports from Wizards who returned noted a flower growing out of the carcass of dead whelps. The offspring who were abandoned, unable to hunt, and starved to death. This vine-like flower twisted through skulls, and intertwined with ribs. These flowers, identified as Tucker Flowers, were thought to be extinct after the first draconic war. We hoped we were onto something. Brewmasters and Wizards attempted many ways of recreating the original potion, and nothing seemed to have any effect on the flower other than the smoke. A paste of Tucker Flower petals was smoked, causing the paste to turn a light brown. Excited with this discovery, we mixed the paste with infected blood of one of the farm animals attacked in Mennelsif, a small farming town which was attacked by swarms of whelps, hungry for meat. This, however, caused the paste to evaporate. Which meant there was more to the potion, as every other possibility had been starved.

And then it clicked.

The towns attacked by dragons. All major mining cities. Agreate, a silver mine. Pluumbnar, a lead mine. Wolphrus, a tungsten mine. All mines. The dragons were after metals.
Which left Aurdinas. The city of gold. The next victim. We sent messengers to warn them, and to tell them that we were close with a way to kill dragons.

This left the final component, metal. Any metal suits, and through testing, we determined that no specific metal made the concoction any more or any less volatile. And due to the sheer accessibility of iron, and by extension steel, it was determined to be the most appropriate to use. The result was a watery red potion. Thinner than blood, though when mixed with a liquid adhesive, this problem was solved, allowing for practical use.

Aptly named "Dragon's Demise," the potion was mass produced and shipped to Aurdinas, where we were certain that this alone would be the key to winning this war. But we were wrong. Oh so wrong.

All weapons were coated with the Demise. And that was the problem. The effect of Demise was not to kill the dragons, but to weaken them; rendering their scaled armour useless, and allowing for them to be attacked and killed by other weapons. Demise prevented weapons from penetrating and cutting through the dragon. This knowledge was gained too late, and Aurdinas was destroyed.

Many Wizards went into hiding after this incident, ashamed of what they caused. I would have done the same if I hadn't heard that the king was requesting Wizards to kill the dragon of Aurdinas.

I am on this adventure to rid myself of the guilt, not for the spoils that accompany it.

Spoiler for Free Ranged Organized Guerilla Soldiers:
Inspiration in the task below came from Dungeon Master's Guide (3.5 edition) and Player's Handbook (4th edition)

"What have I done to deserve this?" says the lazy yet furious Cockatrice, mumbling to himself. "Why should I have to be involved in this draconic hunt?" he continued.
"Because each member belonging to the elite F.R.O.G.S. squad has done its part already and we are the only two left who have yet to help with our quest" a young lady called Lunaris replied. "So, stop being lazy ARTHANASIOS and start working!" she continued in an even higher voice.
"Yes, but what should I do, Luna?"
"You are a fricking Wizard and are you asking me, a scribe?", Luna replied, really annoyed by her comrade's irresponsibility and lack of creativity. "Our king Mathman has built you a huge tower with the greatest library in the entire kingdom! Go and search your books for something useful, ARTH..."
The Cockatrice Wizard left the castle and headed to his tower right away. After a 10-hour search, he finally found what he was hoping for within the pages of a dusty tome...
The Orbs of Dragonkind

These magnificent Orbs were firstly created ages ago in order to enslave and command dragons during the great Dragon Wars. Each contains the very essence and thus the personality of an ancient dragon of a different variety (one for each of the major twelve elements of the cosmos). The dragon of the orb can even communicate with its master through verbal dialogue or telepathy. The bearer of an Orb can dominate dragons of its type within 500 feet. The dragon feels that is being forced to obey and he/she may attempt to resist the Orb's influence by sheer willpower. If the dragon fails, the mighty and pride creature succumbs to the Orb's wielder new orders. But beware; if the dragon resists the Orb's domination effect with success, very few people are capable enough to fight an angered dragon and live to tell the tale!
Each Orb of Dragonkind bestows upon the wielder the defensive capabilities of dragonkin; his/her armor transforms like it is made from dragonscales and it grants the endurance of a Basalt Dragon, the reflexes of Ruby and the willpower of Jade Dragons upon its wearer. These values (armor, endurance, reflexes and willpower) cannot be modified by any means as long as the character holds the Orb.
Any person possessing an Orb of Dragonkind is immune to the breath weapons (but only the breath weapons) of the Orb's dragon variety. Thus, the possessor of the Massive Dragon Orb of Dragonkind is immune to the breath of Colossal and Massive Dragons but these dragons could still crush him/her with the weight of their unimaginable massess. Moreover, any person who wields such an orb can himself/herself use the breath weapon of the dragon in the Orb once per 8 hours.
The owner of an Orb knows whether there are dragons of the Orb's particular variety within 100 miles. If within 1 mile of a dragon of the Orb's type, the wielder can determine the exact location, gender and age of the creature.
Usually, the owner of one of these Orbs earns the enmity forever of its respective dragonkind. Dragons can not easily forget or forgive any profit gained by the enslavement of one of their kin, even if the Orb wielder later discards the item.
Each Orb also has an individual power that can be invoked once per minute.
* Purple/Amethyst Dragon: Antimatter
* Bone/Ivory Dragon: Alfatoxin
* Colossal/Massive Dragon: Black Hole
* Stone/Basalt Dragon: Basilisk Blood
* Emerald/Jade Dragon: Adrenaline
* Crimson/Ruby Dragon: Rage Potion
* Ice/Arctic Dragon: Nymph's Tears
* Golden/Light Dragon: Luciferin
* Azure/Sky Dragon: Unstable Gas
* Devonian/Silurian Dragon: Precognition
* Black/Obsidian Dragon: Liquid Shadow
* Phase/Elite Phase Dragon: Quintessence

The wizard closes the dusty tome only after bookmarking the page. That is it!, he whispers. Now only if I could remember where my ritual book lies... here it is!
Loremaster’s Bargain
Through painstaking research and preparation, you prepare a valuable offering for a powerful, religius, extraplanar entity such as an angel, a demigod, a demon, or a false god. This offering depends on the kind of creature you summon but the cost of its components must not be less than 13,000 gold pieces. You must chant for 8 hours straight while carving the appropriate holy or unholy symbol of the entity in a circle with a radius of 15 feet.
After the 8 hours have passed, your offering earns you an audience with the being and you can designate up to eight other ritual participants who can also speak with the entity, which appears as a ghostly image that cannot be attacked or physically interacted with. You must succeed to convience the creature to obtain the information you desire.
Unlike rituals that provide cryptic answers or have limited scope, the Loremaster’s Bargain ritual provides contact to a creature that might be genuinely informative and helpful, provided you convince it to help. The entity begins in a neutral state; intrigued by the offering and willing to hear you out. But the entity has agendas of its own, and its nature might color the information and advice it provides...

The cockatrice has bookmarked both books and now he knows what has to be done. Using Loremaster's Bargain to locate an Orb of Dragonkind is the only way forward. The dragon our leader Mathman is going to face is too powerful to be killed, but maybe, just maybe, the dragon can be controlled with the Orb...

Luna's story

Gather round, young ones, its time for a bedtime story. Did you know that your grandmother was once the bearer of an orb that allowed her to control the dragons of Death? It all started when I was much younger than I am now, when I still lived in the land of the entropy elementals..
One day when I was in town doing some shopping, a young man ran up to me, his face filled with obvious panic, his eyes wide and breathing heavy.
"Help me, please! They're after me!" He stuttered, struggling to catch his breath. "Please, you have to take this to the land of Death!" He placed in my hand a cloudy purple orb, and as soon as it came in contact with the skin on my hand, I felt an incredible power surge through my body. It felt as though I had the power of all of the dragons in the land! Maybe even the power of the dragons in all of the lands!
A few seconds later, the feeling of great power faded, and I realized that the young man who'd handed me the orb was staring at me in awe.
"Y-you're a chosen one!" He stammered, his eyes filled with a new kind of fear. He slowly moved away from me, and ran back the way he'd come.
Unsure how to get to the land of Death or why this orb that was now in my possession was so saught after and important, I continued my shopping with the orb in my coat pocket, unconcerned by the fact that someone could be after me. I had an odd feeling of safety and wellbeing despite having been given this great burden.
I of course, after finishing my shopping, returned to my small home on the edge of the entropy elemental's land, as I'm gravity born and many of the entropy elementals don't like our kind. The orb sat upon my counter, letting off a soft purple glow.
Suddenly, the orb flashed brightly, causing me to drop the bag in my hand, and a loud crash sounded outside my house. I ran outside to see what was going on, and was awestruck to see a huge Bone Dragon hovering near my humble abode, the crash having been from the great beast's tail knocking a small tree into my fence.
Are you just going to stare at me, master? I jumped as the voice filled my head and the dragon gave me an expectant look.
"W-what?" I stumbled over my words, trying to get my bearings. The dragon reacted in a way that was similar to how a teenager would react to a parent not understanding something important to them.
You bear the Orb of Dragonkind, no? I hope you understand the responsibilities that come with it. I didn't ask for this, and apparently neither did you, but you have to come with me. The dragon lowered itself closer to the ground, low enough to where I'd be able to climb atop it. Grab the things important to you, as well as the orb. The dragon was obviously growing impatient, so I ran back inside and began packing my belongings into a backpack.
I grabbed the orb as I ran out the door, the power of it surging through my body again. I heard the dragon huff outside, and was confused for a moment. Can he feel the power from it as well? I wondered, approaching the dragon.
Yes, I can, and I can also hear what you're thinking. Let's go. The dragon allowed me to climb up, and then took off. Flying was the most incredible experience, being able to view the world from the viewpoint of a dragon.
You know that with the orb, you can see through the eyes of any dragon that's nearby from the corresponding element, right? Oh, I'm Inferi btw. I was summoned to you when the orb was activated. I gazed at the powerful object in my hand, amazed by the amount of power that was contained within the tiny ball of energy.
How do I do that, Inferi? The dragon pondered the question for a few moments, turning his great head to gaze at me with his beady eyes.
I... don't actually know. I've never been taught how it works, only what it can do. He looked away from me again, seemingly embarrassed that he was unable to explain the workings of the orb to me. We're almost to our destination.
I looked to the ground below me, and was shocked by the great distance we had traveled in the short amount of time we'd been flying. Below us, the great black trees of the land of Darkness began to thin out and the great deserts of the land of Earth became all that the eye could see for miles. Inferi, why are we in the Earth land? I thought we were going to the land of Death?
Inferi lowered himself to the ground in the middle of a desert, his wings stirring up the sand. It was only then that I realized a young man stood there, an orb similar to mine in his hand, but his glowed with a musty brown color.
"So you finally arrived, Inferi. Late, as always." His gaze shifted to the sun, earning an irritated growl from the Bone Dragon that hovered behind me. The man locked eyes with me, the intensity in his gaze making me uneasy. "How did you get the Orb of Death?" He inquired, and I recognized the power-hungry look in his eyes.
I responded cautiously, not liking the look he was giving me. "I was given it randomly, by a man who was panicking." I cast a glance backwards towards Inferi, who was glaring at the Earth-orb bearer.
What's the story with this one? I thought, and was surprised by the hostility that came through the creature's thoughts.
Power hungry and greedy, he's been trying to buy the orbs off of the orb-bearers to recieve all of the power himself. Inferi shifted his gaze to my face, and huffed. Climb on, we're leaving.
I climbed back onto the dragon's back, ignoring the protests from the man as we left. AS we reached the land of Death, I began to slowly nod off, due to the smooth rhythm of the dragon's wing beats and the cool air..
That's just the beginning of the story of my many adventures with Inferi, but its getting late now, children. Off to bed for now.

I am still going to initially do an old style posted vote seeing as it is the easiest way for me to think through my thoughts on the submissions. (and gives me a record to go back to as I increase the number of tasks I have opinions on or if I feel the need to amend my vote based on discussion)
Edit: And now that I read step 4 it seems this old style is still part of the process.

Enchanter
There are a few ways I could see this task taken depending on the interpretation of "your country" and how serious/joking of a mood the card designer was in at the time. I will most be evaluating the card based on its quality as a card because I expect everyone succeeded at making a card appropriate to the task.

Spoiler for They did:
Scaled Leviathan is a reference to a Norse dragon-like being so well chosen! It's reflection mechanic begs for iterations (it is fitting the designer included 1 interaction in the same card). Unfortunately EtG does not have much in the way of positive targeted abilities, but more can be added later. I am a little disappointed because I cannot recall the signature reflection ability having any tie in with the mythological creature in question, but I like the ability and I might have missed the particular Norse tale in which that feature of one of Loki's children is named. You priced the reflection skill as quite valuable which is likely to be a wise move (multipliers are tricky to predict) but I notice the additional cost for the built in interaction is rather low. I would have decreased the casting cost by 1 and increase the activation cost by 1 to better balance the costs.
[3 points]

I hope everyone knows what a Hawk is. Owl's Eye has trained me to expect a Snipe effect here (which would not have been creative) rather than a -X|-Y however I can see a rational behind the damage weakened attack. I do question why you made it a duo card, why the upgraded version is no better unless used as a duo, & why place it in Life where it is competing with Frog / Cockatrice unless it is always played as a duo. Air might have been a better fit for those reasons. As far as balance, well is only possibly balanced when used as a duo but in that context I think it could have its casting cost dropped by 1 but I am confident it is within +/-1 of balanced.
[2 point]

I also hope everyone knows what a Mammoth is. Mammoth is quite elegant in its simplicity (although I wonder if it was intended to be read as killing itself off). While it does not add much in the way of new interaction, it is one of the kind of effects that lays groundwork that can be built off of. Very appropriate fit for a Mammoth. Assuming the self damage was intended I think the price point was well chosen.
[5 points]

I think Night Cobra is an original creation, or at least I am unable to find an earlier source. I must say I am not too impressed by the ability. The ability requires a duo to use and seems unnecessarily complicated. It is a 2hp Snipe and a +2|+2 Growth combined but given a death condition for the 2nd benefit and an additional 50% delay penalty. This seems like you wanted a dual faceted skill and then continued to brainstorm nerfs until it felt balanced under the combined nerfs. It is admirable that you wanted something more complicated than something like Growth's "+2|+2 & make it duo". However this would have worked better without 1-2 of your 3 nerfs (say keep the death condition for the growth but remove the delay and maybe the duo as well). The sniping effect seems fitting for a fire spitting version of the acid spiting cobra. Overall it seems quite underpowered.
[0 points]
Despite that score this card still has its merits. It is merely a consequence of the voting system and the competition for this task.

To other voters: Be careful, the voting page and the submission page are in different orders. You obviously noticed that but I almost slipped so I thought I would mention it.

Edit: Added another post with votes on the Wizard/Scribe task.

I think it wasnt clear that night adder/cobra stops to eat the creature it has cooked successfully (just like a dragon sits on his gold he conquered), making it seem like an effect for the sake of complexity. I agree that it is too weak now, but many people have an opposition to CC on a stick (especially since it originally survived lightning) and thus the team agreed to prevent it from being to oppressive.
I learned now that even on non-scribe-tasks writing a paragraph or two to explain is a good idea.

I'm voting on this task without listening to the Tentacle's Grip's speech to make it fair. I was mainly looking for inspiration, a good impression of the speaker, and flow. The Tentacle's Grip does all of these much better than the other speeches, so they get 5 voints. S7's speech showed that there's a lot of history in the kingdom, and I liked how it referenced another task. It just didn't really stir my heart. The Pyrocloak's speech is kind of lame and sounds like it's coming from the mayor of a city rather than a leader of an entire country. It's also not true to the lore, saying that the dragon has plagued their land with death and fear, while it's really just chilling in its city of gold. The FROGS speech is simple but inspiring. It's the only other speech that I imagine ending with a huge cheer. It was hard to decide who to give the extra voint to. Although S7 sounds better as a country, FROGS sounds better as a speech.

Tentacle's Grip - 5
F.R.O.G.S. - 3
S7 - 2
Pyrocloaks - 0

The Tentacle's Grip's speech actually sounded worse listening to it than it did reading it. It was far more subdued than I feel a speech like this should be.

I also want to point out this line from FROGS: "Some of you may die, but that is a risk I am willing to take..."

Bard

I'm going to base this vote mostly on how much the poster makes me want to sign up. S7 is out because it doesn't actually tell me that volunteers are needed. The Pyrocloak's poster actually makes me not want to sign up, so that's out too. I do not want to be the guy in that poster. Tentacles has a good call to action, and puts up the dragon as a smaller threat to be hunted down by the strong empire. The knife is a really nice touch. FROGS doesn't mention the dragon, but the reason for joining can be assumed. It's presented as an elite force that I would like to join. It's still not nearly as well done as my first pick, so I'm giving one voint to the Pyrocloaks.

Tentacle's Grip - 5
F.R.O.G.S. - 4
Pyrocloaks - 1
S7 - 0

Crusader

Both Tentacles and FROGS went with a deck based on their element, with a different creature representing each member, 6 grunts, and rainbow quanta to make the deck work. This makes the decks look awkward and feel forced. S7 and Pyrocloaks both made good looking decks with very appropriate strategies to fight a dragon, the scenes playing automatically in my head.

Pyrocloaks - 5
S7 - 5
Tentacle's Grip - 0
F.R.O.G.S. - 0

Enchanter

Ranking for ease of comparison to a dragon:
Tentacles - It's like this, but with wings.
FROGS, S7 - It's like this, but really, really big.
Pyrocloaks - It's as destructive as this.

So Pyrocloaks are out. I do find it funny that their card references Skyrim, a game about actual dragons. (Apparently just a coincidence). The FROGS card has good theme and balance. S7's snake having higher hp than attack doesn't make sense, and it getting +2/+2 also doesn't make sense. I really dislike the huge difference in stats on the Leviathan, and the effect is interesting but kind of wonky.

F.R.O.G.S. - 5
Tentacle's Grip - 3
S7 - 2
Pyrocloaks - 0

Wizard/Scribe

FROGS get 0 voints for taking their item and ritual almost straight from D&D.

http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:The_Orbs_of_Dragonkind
http://dnd4.wikia.com/wiki/Loremaster's_Bargain

S7's ritual is not secret, nor is it explained or obvious how it gives an advantage against dragons. I don't see a lot of effort put into their submission. Tentacles and Pyrocloaks both fulfilled the task well, but Pyrocloaks get a voint off for changing the lore in a way that doesn't make sense.

Tentacle's Grip - 5
Pyrocloaks - 4

You are supposed to tell who you liked and why, but not how you spent your voints.

love the voting system, love the voting panel, dislike this. I like that OT and Link have posted their scores, it would be much less enjoyable just reading feedback without scores

I'll add the rest of votes later today

Royals

S7 and TG ranked equally imo, while Pyro and FROGS ranked right behind. The difference wasn't that great imo.

S7 - 3
TG - 3
Pyro - 2
FROGS - 2

Bards

I'm judging based mostly on technical difficulty and how good the end result looks

Pyro: The only one I don't have any complaints about - 5
TG: While this does look good it's just a montage of stock images, which makes it far less impressive to me - 2
S7: Looks as good as possible given the limitations of the technique chosen - 2
FROGS: The handdrawn background clashes a bit with the rest, but the frog makes up a bit for it - 1

Saders

The only one that seemed off in terms of theme was Pyro (some firemasters, with :fire instead of :earth would have worked better). FROGS was a bit awkward looking, but I see what you were going for. Most original concept imo was S7

S7 - 4
TG - 3
FROGS - 2
Pyro - 1

Enchanter

Pyro - I feel the creature should cost maybe +1/+2 quanta for the effect (definetely the case if it doesn't affect itself). The theme felt a bit of a stretch imo. - 2
FROGS - Balanced all around imo, though air doesn't really need more CC. - 4
S7 - Original, but really UP imo. The main effect is the CC, with the growth being a bonus. If it were cheaper and didn't delayed upon killing something it would be worth it. - 2
TG - Original, but the combo with Warden and Purple Nymph makes it OP in a stallish deck. - 2

Scribe/Wizard (Ritual)

Pyro - Good overall ritual - 5
FROGS - Only minor changes from the DnD original. Some of the things that were kept made no sense - 1
S7 - Short and to the point, but it's unclear how it would help in slaying the dragon - 2
TG - Misspelings deduced a lot of voints from an otherwise good task (the font color for the book was also a poor choice) - 2

Scribe/Wizard (Story)

S7 was the only I felt fell short, so have an anti-vote

Pyro - 3
FROGS - 3
S7 - 1
TG - 3

Yeah, but it still decreases the fun of reading all the feedback if you don't have the points to reference against what you are reading. Very against withholding of points from vote posts tbh.

I did notice the thematic "pause to eat" effect the death condition & delay created. However a concise & clear explanation can be a good idea.

I look forward to your round 2 card.

Yes, me and CO will discuss that, but until we have made a decision we would appreciate that you kept the points secret as the instructions say.
Is that a, possibly temporary, alteration to the instructions?

While I agree that with points is more informative, a post is sufficiently informative to be used as vote validation if it does not mention points specifically.
