It spins and spins, faster and faster, and the traveler looks in nervous awe. The trials he faced merely to qualify the presence of his worn boots in this -- He breaths in... and resumes his measured pace towards the gates. No more distractions. It is time. Set up Shop (Bazaar, Deckbuilding screens) It is dawn, and a city awakes from its slumber. As the sun rises, the denizens hasten their preparations, unloading supplies, setting up stalls and preparing their shops. Throughout the settlement, elementals and merchants leave their homes and wagons and head to the marketplace, eager to begin the day's business, some browsing through artifacts and spellscrolls whilst others take up the sword. All are eager to tackle the day's trials. Arena Champion (Arena top 10 match) To battle! The Arena gates have opened, and fighters stream out onto the blooded dirt, eager for the taste of glory. As the sun blazes down upon the struggling foes, you move to Cut. Them. Down. As blood and sweat drips and seeps into the sand, five hundred become halved, then quartered. The Oracle plucks a sitar-like instrument, handing out one card per day...

This is a theme created by GP for the oracle screen. It is short, as most players only enter the oracle for approximately 10-15 seconds (depending on their computer/connection speed). It reflects the nature of the oracle, and how we see him to be, with him playing some instrument when you go to visit him.

What we did was to fill in all the gaps where the game doesn't have music, while leaving untouched the theme in the opening screen and the false god background music. Most of these are intended to be looped one way or another, so to show the way these loops happen most of the songs are played twice.


First we have a song that plays continuouosly while "the player isn't playing", that is for the AI selection screen, the arena main screen, upgrade card screen, bazaar and deck screens. When the player switches between these the song doesn't restart, keeping an homogeneous flow between these screens:

Next we have a song for our friend the oracle. My intention is that it wouldn't loop, but for the sake of completion I'm adding both versions

Next we have a basic set of short bits for being played during the basic AIs (Everything except False Gods and arena top 10 decks). We have 3 of these:

AI bit A - AI bit B - AI bit C 

These bits can be changed seamlessly from into the other. The idea here is that the changes are random and intended to mitigate a bit the boredom of grinding. Here is an example depicting all possible changes (ABCACBA):

Arena decks that are in the top 10 get their own song that has a more epic feel than the regular ones

Finally we have songs for the PvP waiting screen and a separate song for PvP matches (PvP1, PvP2 and PvP duel use the same songs). The PvP waiting song is a bit busier, while the song for the match gives you something that's not as distracting.

We also have short bits for when you win or lose a game (they are the same for both AI games and PvP games). Again, these are not intended as loops, but I'm adding both versions.

This is a piece of music I'd have to replace the Login Screen music. I tried to maintain the mournful, slightly ethereal quality of the sound, and made lyrics simple and non-game related because I think that would lead the player into the game better than some meta-lyrics. I could not for the life of me sort out the microphone hiss at the start, try to ignore it, it's less noticeable later in the song. Lyrics provided on request. Enjoy.

Notes:

- Owner's Mark refers to the Deck Mark of the players whose field the creature is in and not any Mark Cards played or the element of the creature itself. Upgraded creatures become Towers and therefore would generate quanta once at the moment of "pillar-izing" similar to a played Tower.

- One turn duration is similar in meaning to the wait required for a Phoenix before Ash can activate ability. At the end of this period the pillar/tower automatically transforms back into the basic (i.e. - as first summoned) creature.

- Normal will affect BOTH players' creatures that successfully attack. The upgraded version will only affect creature on the opponent's field.

Classic MonoDark. The forums are indeed reigned by Darkness, and Darkness is an incredibly powerful deck archetype that fits in one of the letter ranges, surprisingly.

The 5 Card Combo:

Ruby Dragon + Parallel Universe x 2 + Obsidian Dragon + Sky Blitz = 114 Damage.

Support Cards:

Supernova: Necessary to boost your quanta to play your combo.
Sundial: Excellent stalling against rush and domin decks, with the added bonus of drawing through your deck to reach your combo. Unupgraded so it won't harm your opening draw.
Precognition: Mostly drawpower, but can be useful to see your opponents hand so you know when it would be best to play your Silence. Make sure you will have enough Time quanta remaining to keep your sundial chain intact.
Shard of Bravery: Excellent added drawpower, especially when your Sundials and Silence can mitigate the advantage your opponent will get.
Silence: A great technical card, allowing you to protect yourself from various counters, including finding a hole in a Dim Shield chain. Make sure you will have enough Aether quanta remaining to play your Parallel Universes. Also, against various decks you can lay down 50 damage and use a Silence to win in 2 turns, in a pinch.

pretty easy to understand how the deck works, the only problem is that create too much quanta and there aren't other way of heal except sosa.

Write a Death Battle between any two Elements entities!
An "Elements entity" is defined as any two entities related to Elements - creatures, the Oracle, False Gods, forum users... a lot of things! Let's see Zanz fighting a Spark, eh?

-They say mastering the art of time unlocks all the keys of the universe.
-Some say you can even become more than one, like 10men, 3 times in a row master of time ...
-... and SpikeSpiegel, who as if he was reverse time'd came back from the dead to equal 10men's achievement.
-He's andre and I'm Crockett.
-And it's our job to analyse their decks, awards and skill to determine who would win, a DEATHBATTLE.


-Having won trials 5, 6 and 7; 10men has lead time in 2 wars, getting a 4th place on his first run as a general and an impressive 2nd place the following war, time's best finish ever, as well as having won a war before he was even a master.
-He also won a reputation of being a control freak and being an extremelly tough general to serve under, but you don't argue with results.
-Not also has 10men made a good run in wars and trials, but he sports a respectable collection of 4 weakly tourney wins as well as one draft victory.
-Nothing on the same league as majofa or RootRanger, but we all have limits. Also, one thing that is important to note is that 10men hasn't won anything since 2012.
-You are right, his appearances have been each time more rare and he seems to have a smaller experience with the newer meta that appeared in 1.32, when shards became colored.
-Not that he would need them, I mean, his favorite trials deck is from when shards didn't even exist: http://dek.im/d/5rk5roz55rtz574az97q0z47q47q88pl I'm not arguing with that.


-SpikeSpiegel, winner of trials 3, 8 and 9; has also lead time twice in war, getting 3rd place on his first time but getting a disappointing 7th place on the following one, largely due to the radical rule changes that happened in War 9.
-And don't forget that he's gotten these results with the cheapest teams each time.
-You're right, in fact, his team in War 8 was the cheapest team ever, costing only 5 cards, a number that would have even been impossible in the older wars.
-Talk about being a miser.
-Despite having a worse track record in war, Spike has seen success in may other parts of competitive PvP as well as in non-PvP events.

- In the fifth time trials, 10men won and Spike was the runner up. Since then Spike has continued to evolve and gain more experience, while 10 men practically left the forums.
- His experience in a more modern meta also means that Spike's arsenal is a bit more flexible.
- If we take a look at both their signature decks, they may look similar in principle, but the discord gives Spike a crucial edge here.
- And neurotoxin + RT is pretty useless against Spike's other favorite deck, instosis, since instosis' drawpower means the game is over way before the poison can pile too much.
- Finally, a run in the simulator confirms our point, with Spike's instosis deck winning 99 out of 100.

Peaceful. Even in the harshest battles, titanic elemental powers raging against each other. The Darkness Master always kept a little pocket of peaceful void within himself, and felt quite at home.

He had never considered the Trials a burden, rather he reveled in combat with other lovers of the dark. And when he defeated them all, they praised him. As a Master, he was not a vicious dictator. He was not a feckless usurper claiming victory by force in an Element of which he had no right. He was simply the true and rightful Leader of the Dark.

Then came War. Glory! Glory! He created a marvellous shade of terror for his enemies to lose themselves in. One by one they fell, stumbling in the night. The forum, the world, the universe was to be cloaked in his serene silhouette of silent shadow.

And yet a problem remained.

He was not a proud man. He did not crave power for power’s sake. All he desired was a world in which light faded, and flames… flames guttered and died.

Flames guttered. And Died.

The Ranger, that was the problem. The fiery bastion of infernos refused to relinquish his title. The Grandmaster would not agree to succumb to the shadows, so now he must die in the dark.

“Shall we begin?” whispered Physsion.

RootRanger answered with a raging bolt of flame.

Crackling heat singed the earth. With a sigh, The Darkness Master summoned an Eclipse, and the battleground was cloaked in his beloved night.
As the long and arduous clash took its toll on both combatants, Physsion twisted his beak in a grim smile. How lucky he was to rejoice in this black cacophony of shade. Either he would reign, undisputed in a quiet black world of his own design, or he would lose, die, and enter the void: the blackest dark of them all. As the victor stood over his fallen foe, the world of Elements would hail their Grandmaster, and in one way or another Physsion at would be at peace.

Nobody really noticed at first, or if they did, they didn't really care. All easily explained, of course. No need for worry.

And it started with Xenodocious. The well known coder of Darkness, naturally. It made sense for her to take the closest ones, and his passing was peaceful, though he was missed.

Most of you would think that it is a conspiracy gathered from the sands of spun out time, the one thing that we are powerless against, the one thing that steals our friends, our relationships, our life.

And then others began to fall. The wicked puppetmaster, Chapuz no longer exists, though his legendary power capable of killing gods remains. The therapist artist, Shrink. Youngsot. Napalm. Incredibly powerful members left one by one, or so we thought.

The next target was obvious. To slowly topple our structure, our head would have to vanish. And vanish he did, our beloved zanzarino, a Ghost of the Past.

Perhaps it was only her prowess, her maternal instincts, her ability to sense, that Higurashi was not taken. Of course, she tried to track the infernal spririt that she felt, but eventaully always passed it off as paranoia, disregarding the clear connection.

Until it came for her, that is.

It was a rather bland and placid day, free of activity, a day that left Higurashi longing for humans. She had entered chat and was quietly conversing with a young man on his elemental affinity when she felt a tug. Pausing the conversation, she investigated the strange magic, and recoiled when she realized that it was draining her, of all things.

She left rather suddenly, from the chat, or so it appeared, but she had other things on her mind.

She descended into an empty space of the forums, and waited. When she felt the pull begin, she tugged back, forcing her opponent into reality, into her space. Even her grizzled experience did not stop her from shuddering when she saw the abomination of nature.

It was a wispy wraith, barely there, though it bent light and seemed to vanish. Its eyes glowed a faint dark purple, strangely hypnotic. And its form... indescribable, beyond words. Perhaps the closest respresentation was the sensation of seeing yourself in a mirror through someone elses' eyes. It was unnatural, bent correctly but not how a human should be.

Steeling herself, Higurashi called, "Who are you and what have you done?"

Barely a moment passed before a chill wind broke through the clearing in the alternate dimension that Higurashi remained in, whispering vile things just below the range of comprehension. Higurashi was sure that if she had been able to hear... she resolved to reflect on that later.

Whatever this thing was, she was certain it was responsible for the vanishing of many, its draining pulling away the emotion, the time that people had left on the forums, to sustain its ghastly existence.

Then, with a start, Higurashi realized that it was what was left of one of those members. Not the first one to vanish, but one of the Ancients.

ScaredGirl.

However ScaredGirl had been drained, by whatever, was unknown. What Higurashi did know, though, was that it was no longer her precious friend, her companion against the children new to the forums.

Higurashi knew what she had to do, despite her heavy heart.

Pretending to not recognize ScaredGirl, she slipped on a mask.

Snickering at the chill wind, Higurashi again called, "You have no power here. As the matron, I protect."

She spoke the last word, and in the next split second, cast an impossibly powerful Thunderbolt at the wraith. The wraith, however, countered with an incredible Siphon Life, the cerulean blast meeting the dark one. Lightning arced, dancing over the absorption of light, and then cancelled out where it slipped into the pure negative.

The blasts were held for a few seconds, then undone and retried, each matching the other in intensity. There seemed to be no way to turn the tides.

And then darkness fell. Higurashi had let down her guard, not noticing that the wraith of Scaredgirl had been casting a cloak. In the dark, the black blasts carried a strange negative light, just barely warning Higurashi of their location.

The wraith's blasts increased in intensity, slowly overpowering Higurashi. Higurashi responded with a Silence, and the blasts stopped. However, without the blasts revealing where the ghost was, Higurashi had no concrete way to attack without giving up her position. At least, not directly.

Pulling a powerful Mindgate into existence, Higurashi pulled the next few movements from ScaredGirl's mind, before it was viciously Stolen from her. She managed to note a Dusk Mantle, and cast it as well, just in time to vanish through a sudden wide beam.

The cloak was dissipating, and the shade's violet flickers grew visible again, and Higurashi again knew what she must do. Thinking quickly, she downed an ethereal potion that made her impossible to target. The wraith howled as its target slipped away, and began to dissipate into the air. Desperate to not let the ghoulish apparition fade to devour another, she crystallized her magic and smashed it, her mind growing large with Wisdom. Even the mantle of dusk could not protect the thing from the following powerful blast.

And that was that. Perhaps anticlimatic, but it is not a show, a television finale. It is a death, of a friend, of those long gone, of the ones that Higurashi remembers though we may not. Respect her, and love her. She does more for us than you will ever know.

Zawadx: He's CleanOnion and I'm Zawadx, and it's our job to analyze their creatures, permanents, and spells, to find out which would win a PVP-DUEL. Zawadx: For aeons, Gods reigned over the World of Elements. Their names were feared by elementals of all stripes and colors. CleanOnion: And we do mean all colors! But mostly grabbows. Zawadx: Stronger, faster, and more powerful, their array of augmented abilities meant that their reign had never been seriously challenged by any elemental who dared to rise against them... until the arrival of the godslayer, ScaredGirl. CleanOnion: Alright, you False God sympathizer, how about you tell me what this thing can do? Zawadx: Well, the star of this deck was the powerful 2-turn Sundial. A player could stall for two turns and draw a card, at the cost of a single Light quantum. CleanOnion: Blocking damage for twelve turns - for FREE?! Sounds totally balanced! Zawadx: That's right. The superior stall power of SGBow allowed it to easily take down a large number of FGs.
Zawadx: The deck also utilized a range of creatures, using different abilities to control the board and lay down some serious damage. CleanOnion: Who's that orange guy? I like the look of him. Zawadx: Elite Otyugh is an expensive gravity creature that can devour other creatures. This allowed the Ultimate FG Farmer to easily clear the field of its opponent's creatures. CleanOnion: What I wouldn't give for a stomach that big!
Zawadx: Not only that, but the deck also packed some very powerful spells to help clear the board, take the opponent's cards, and survive a lot of damage. CleanOnion: Improved Miracle? Every single one of my rage-quits has been because of that card! Zawadx: Fire Storm and Heavy Armor also pair very well with your Otyughs, weakening the enemy creatures and making him even bigger to keep on chomping. CleanOnion: He really is after my own heart. Probably literally, too!
Zawadx: To add even further to this deck's stall power, Phase Shields, Bone Walls, Feral Bonds and an Eagle's Eye helped to prevent even more damage, and provide even more creature control. CleanOnion: Dim Shields, too? C'mon... Zawadx: The extra draw power from Sundials and Electrum Hourglasses also helped considerably. With a deck this size, you need all the- CleanOnion: YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT BIG DECKS?! BIG- Zawadx: -moving on...
CleanOnion: Alright, fine. Is there anything this deck can't do? It has all the cards that nobody likes! Zawadx: the Ultimate FG Killer was weak to heavy control, so False Gods like Hermes, Seism and Rainbow could break through its defenses. Unblockable damage from Poison or Momentum also gave it a tough time. CleanOnion: And on that note, let's introduce the deck at the very pinnacle of unavoidable damage - Zen!

With a Darkness mark and 6 Shards on the field, Zen could reduce its opponents maximum HP by 18 per turn! CleanOnion: Ha! Let's see you use your blasted Miracles now!
Zawadx: Zen used Shard of Divinity and Shard of Sacrifice as support cards, while the SoVs gradually chipped away at the opponent's health pool. CleanOnion: With those Protect Artifacts, I bet it was much stronger against Earthquakes, too. Zawadx: Indeed! Siphon Life gave the deck a strong finisher against decks with shields, too. Also, something else you'll notice about the deck...
CleanOnion: NO CREATURES! What will my Otyughs do?! Zawadx: That's right, Zen only utilizes spells and permanents. Long Sword provides the deck with consistent damage, while the shards do their work. CleanOnion: Alright. What's the catch?
Zawadx: As with any Shard of Sacrifice deck, Zen is weak to huge burst damage - in terms of False God opponents, Octane's Unstable Gases are very tough for Zen to stand up against. The quanta-draining effect of SoSac also makes Decay a major threat, and Scorpio's Purifies can stop it dead in its tracks. CleanOnion: All things considered... who wins this PVP battle? ScaredGirl's Ultimate False God Killer, or Zen? Zawadx: Let's look at the stats!

Duelling dragons crushing a poor horned frog, scurrying devourers and otyughs, falling wyrms and pegasi, vultures looming in the distance-- an excellent depiction of iconic elements creatures! The Chaosomes: Loving the use of the elements symbols, well done! I'd have preferred it if they didn't repeat quite so often in the same pattern, but still, very well done! FHM, I also really liked yours, but the quality of the image detracts from the submission, again :/ CD League of Shadows: This sly desert fox may not be powerful, but his precognitive abilities stand in a league of their own! This card introduces a new synergy and a sweet implementation of the classic precog mechanic. Well done. Gaia's Pride: Lots of good submissions this round! Very hard to choose! In the end I went with this because it seems like a really fun mechanic, even though I think this + EQ is a tad bit OP, hehe. DB League of Shadows: Shards smash some Gods silly. Shards stronk. Says in Strong Shard Smashing Song. See? Sick Shards. Stupid Gods. Split up Shards? Sad. Should sing simultaneously. Not Sorry. Strong! A Toadally Newtral Team: A very strong unupped deck! MonoDark is classic. FE Abyss Brawlers: Love the humor and how it probably would've won against the AI4! Excellent job. The Chaosomes: Very very very difficult choice here. Really. But as much as I love LoS' submission, this one is better. Sadly. Well done by TC! Good flow, jokes were nice. Who doesn't like to see shard golems beat up bronze? This submission is actually pretty similar to what we were planning on doing if we'd managed to get camstudio to work, heh. Writer League of Shadows: I felt this remained truest to the DEATH BATTLE theme, while also providing a nice elements spin to it; after all, analyzing two decks is something we actually see quite often, just not in this format! Also, pretty formatting. ^^ The rough edges from not-quite finishing in time hurt it a little, but not significantly enough to detract from the vote. Abyss Brawlers: GM Battle Hype! Rest to be filled in later.

FHM: Not particularly outstanding. Still beats GP's, surprisingly, mostly due to their hilariously large Arsenic XP.
GP: Tell me the next time you see Arsenics are so large they're almost half a Mummy's height (I've always assumed that Arsenics are some sort of dagger). ^^;

LoS barely lost to AB's entry, and even then it's due to AB's rather unorthodox spin on what does EtG mean. I've got to save the first place for TC, though, that one have sheer force of creativity that I can't ignore XDD

ATNT: Yeaaah, Graboid V2. Interesting, though good luck trying to sort out the problem that comes with MaidTal XD
GP: What happens when the unupped Fairy Godmother itself (herself?) turned into the pillar?
LoS: What does the fox say? Can the enemy pretend to be the fox?
TC: Demonic Smith is pretty simple. Master Smith ... not so much :/ Oh, what does happen when the strongest available creature is Immaterial?
FHM: NO. Just no. Fractal Hedgehog is too big a wildcard, assuming each Hedgehog needs to be unflagged separately (draw you a card or 5 HP is lost ... but then there's the danger of decking out).
AB: Can we Sacrifice Rumple itself, then?
A Stray LoS in Arkansas: Your Event entry is more interesting than your regular entry, surprisingly.
Two Black Holes: inb4 this thing is stuffed into Armagios (I assume this can lower attack past zero, which makes a pretty interesting tradeoff).

Shards of Defiance requires excellent RNG to work! In other words, if your target FG successfully gets the rush out, you're dead. Probably. I think the average was around 6-8 TTW and around 5-10 TTL. We made the deck under the original ruleset, expecting to build the strongest viable deck. And at that, I do think we succeeded. Our deck can take any of the other decks submitted (I'm very confident that it would win against any of these other decks), AND has beat down FGs where they've only used AI3s.
