Grand Debate
Write a story in which an Elements Philosopher and Elements Religious Figure debate over some topic.
(Note: The entire story needn't be the debate, that just must be a portion of it.)

TO STALL OR NOT TO STALL

Once upon a time in the lands of the elementals there lived many peaceful tribes all in content with each other. The 12 tribes each had different resources to look over, and different areas of the elemental world to tend to. One day a war broke out and many warriors from each of the tribes met up to battle each other. Some tried rushing each other, while others sought to stall the opponents out. The many wise leaders of the Kingdom of Light met to discuss their potential battle tactics. The one question that each continued to ask was, "To Stall or not to Stall?" To finally settle the debate, they called upon a philosopher and their High Priest.

The philosopher began with, "A Stall is easily defeated by momentum. Therefore a Rush would be better."

The High Priest countered with, "The Holy Zanzarino blessed us with miracles upon high. We must Stall to the ends of the world."

"Miracles are nothing to unbelievers. They just continue. You have to kill them, not wear them out by pacifism."

"We will become one with the lord in our mighty sanctuaries. Zanzarino will come to us."

"If Zanzarino will come to us, what is to stop him from going to the others? There are twelve different groups of us. Why would us, the Light, be any more worthy?"

"We must find allies with power. If we can seek alliance with the Fire elementals we can destroy the enemies and stall out the competition."

"I will admit that an alliance with Fire would make us nearly invincible. However, just with fire leaves ten others. What could it be about our stalling that would inspire Zanzarino?"

"Why else would Zanzarino have used us in other tools for stalls, such as Sundial?"

"I do not know. We definitely do not have a great capacity for killing our opponents outright, and Fire does not have as much healing as we do. Allying with them could also be beneficial, as they tend to Rush, and they have some of the fastest Rushes. I cannot help but feel that we are outclassed though, perhaps by Time or Aether."

"We have no means of rush power on our own, both the Archangels and our Golden Dragons are too few to send to battle field.."

"Perhaps an alliance with Aether would be better? They have incredible stall capabilities and are incredibly offensive."

"Stalling is the aim we are looking for, Dimensional Shields will protect us in our Sanctuaries. Keeping ourselves alive will be of great benefit."

"Our survival is certainly important. Are you sure, though, that an alliance is the proper way to go?"

"Zanzarino believes in us the same way we believe in him, if he wishes for us to alliance he will allow it."

"How do we know that we do not do something against his rules, however?"

"If we had, he would have released powers of doom upon us. Floods, Rains of Fire, Plagues, and a great masses of Pandemonium."

"But nothing that explicitly states what those rules would be?"

"... None."

"But surely that means Zanzarino has abandoned us, or does not care for us!"

"No. He has faith in us as we do him. He believes that we will do the right thing."

"Not all beings are moral."

"Can you judge a being by its morality?"

"If it is aware of the rules and chooses to disobey them, yes."

"Then Zanzarino will judge them, and he will Patch them out."

"... fair enough. But we have diverted from the question. To Stall or not to Stall?"

"But...."

And then the philosopher finished with, "We do what we can."

Silence reigned.
The philosopher and High Priest continued to stare at each other in silence as they thought about the conversation they had just had. They agreed to finish another day after the war was done and went back to their posts, still thinking how else to prove their point to the other.

Look all I'm asking is that if updates come through incremental change, where did Elements come from in the first place?

Well if Zanzarino made the game, then what made Zanzarino?

Zanzarino made the game from nothing! He is all powerful and beyond time and space, he doesn't need a beginning.  You don't believe in that sort of stuff, so what was there before the beginning?

Well, a million abominations typing on a million keyboards will eventually recreate the great works of Zhakspeer.  Maybe there were random bits of code flying through the aether, and they came together to make a barely functioning game.  Then, after a while, the game started evolving to better suit the needs of the players.

Blasphemy.  When Zanzarino returns, he will take up the true believers and put them into a new game.  One that's more balanced, and has lots of new cards.  And you'll be stuck in this crappy world.

This crappy world is all we have right now.  We might as well try to make the most of it.

The girl with the red hair straightens as she speaks, as if her height correlates directly with the validity of her argument. "Would you challenge the one that created you?"

A man in a suit and tie sits motionless at his desk, seemingly ignoring the teenager standing in front of him and continuing to scribble on the papers in front of him. "They've created nothing. Even if they had, I'd be all for challenging them if the situation demanded it."

"I can't believe this."
The girl glares at him sharply before continuing. "Don't you have any respect?"

"Respect for what? I don't know who told you that some random rich people made the universe, but they're a lunatic."

"Don't call the Oracle a lunatic! His prophecies come true!"

"The Oracle...? You know what a self-fulfilling prophecy is, right?"

The girl seems to waver a bit at this, making a halfhearted attempt to stare the businessman down.

"It's not practical to participate in the Arena," continues the man in the suit. "Challenging these so called 'gods' of yours is far more profitable when it comes to competitive battling."

"You're not the one doing the battling!" *exasperated sigh* "So stop paying the people who do!"

"Money makes the world go around, young lady."

"Why's it always about money with you? My mother made a living in the Arena."

A brief flash of... something... crosses the man's face. "Your mother, frankly, is irrelevant."

"I knew it. You never loved her."

The sound of the door slamming doesn't even register with the girl's father as he begins to quietly weep.

"Number 30,122,519, you may proceed to the audience chamber..."

The Oracle sighed wistfully as he looked down towards the crowds from his shrine loft. The premonitions he'd seen in the turning of his Elemental Wheel indicated that there was to be conflict in the day ahead. Surprisingly, a conflict involving him directly. Even as he heard his assistant Eve, the one and only Rainbow Nymph, call out this next number, he felt that somewhere in that throng of Elementals seeking guidance was a disturber of what little order existed in the mass.

As usual, with some vague words, a gift, and a battle premonition he was able to soothe his next visitor. Anybody disappointed with their gift did not concern him - for, of course, fate did not suddenly change her plans for anyone. Generally the Oracle didn't change suddenly for anyone either, which he knew was going to be the problem as soon as a certain irregularity cropped up…

Eve called the next number with some confusion. It was over a million places higher than the last.

It meant someone was meddling with this established audience system. Again, the Oracle sighed. The only people in the realm powerful enough to put cracks in this old magic were the ones liable to think themselves above it. The False Gods. And while occasionally they came to seek advice, similar to other Elementals, more often it seemed to involve arguing and failed attempts to bully him.

Sure enough, a figure nearly twice as large as any other Elemental approached through the mass of patient Elementals. After clear condescension towards the crowds as well as irritation with the thickness of the throng, the figure eventually lifted into the air and began skiing through it, propelled by winged sandals.

“Ah, always hot-headed, Hermes,” sighed the Oracle to himself, moments before the fuming False God fluttered into his chamber.

"Hermes." Keeping his voice calm, the Oracle simply granted the respectful nod he did to everyone. Hermes, for his part, returned a scalding look. "I assume you had help from...Paradox? Or perhaps Lionheart? They both take pride, as I recall, in their capacities for clairvoyance."

"That’s your bloody problem, Oracle, you recall too much! Every day Our powers are further damaged because you point young Elementals in one of Our directions and allow them to prepare for a fight which you know they normally can only guess."

"Frankly, Hermes, it is your pride, not your power which is damaged. We have discussed this before." Though at this, the so-called God rapidly put a flaming sword to the philosopher's throat. Unperturbed, he answered the threat with, "We have discussed that before too."

Hermes snarled. "You take pride in reminding people of what they don't want to hear. Guess what, since you too have to be reminded of what you don't want to hear, WE ARE GODS. You are but a prophet, a leech feeding off our existence so that your followers keep coming back."

“The world is changing, Hermes,” muttered the Oracle, calmly retrieving his staff from beside his seat and lowering the blade with it. “You are Gods, or as close that exist in our realm, true. But war-gods. Your power and pleasure lies in battle. What would you do if you no longer had foes to fight? Would you be GODS then? Elementals are drawn to the Arena, where they battle shades of each other. They profit both in coin and cards, cards which you cannot offer them. If I did not remind them of your existence, would they remember to fear or fight you at all?”

"YOU GO TOO FAR!” screamed the insulted deity, “We are powerful, and any lowly Elemental would be proud to say they vanquished us fairly. But there are plenty who are too WEAK and you enable them to prey on Us!”

"As opposed to pray to you? Is that what you want Hermes?”

"You accept audiences with hundreds, possibly thousands of Elementals every day, give them whatever jumble of junk you somehow manage to dig up, tell them where to find Us knowing that they will ask the elders among them how best to defeat us - and you call that balance?"

"Yes."

"You cheapen the achievements of those who beat us with dignity. We are GODS! Our rightful place is as the most powerful beings in the land!”

The Oracle, observing the wheel, murmured, "At least you admit you're not invincible." Speaking again to his visitor, he replied, "Yet who holds the most power among the people – The God, or the Prophet who tells the people of the God?"

“I’D SAY THE GOD IF THE PROPHET HAD A SWORD THROUGH HIS THROAT!”

“Until the prophet no longer speaks of the God, and the God is forgotten. I say this not to diminish you, or place myself above you. The answer is we are two halves of the same whole. Without me, the Elementals will forget. They may stop coming back day after day to chance their luck against your strength. Without you, my gifts are hollow, and they would not come to me to seek my guidance.”

Other than the crackle of the flames along Hermes’s spine, and the slow creak of the shifting Elemental Wheel, silence grew between the two. The Oracle watched as the rage crumbled away from Hermes’ eyes, like ash from a smouldering coal.

“Would you like your fortune, Hermes?”

“I would like a great many things. I feel all I am likely to get from you is my fortune, however.” With a resigned sigh, he crossed the room to the balcony upon which he had entered.

Somberly, the Oracle spun the great wheel, watching until it clicked to a stop. “The Burning Pendulum: Today will be the foundation of something significant. The world is on fire, but is it a conflagration, or a controllable tool?  You must decide.”

Hermes stood on the balcony, preparing to fly. He turned to give the Oracle once last look. “You’ll never change, will you?”

“Fate never changes. Why should I?”

“The world is on fire. I like that.”

The crowd bustled and clamored, filling the village square with noise and excitement. A traveler had arrived! With the events of the past year fresh in mind, the villagers had been wary at first, determined not to fall prey to some wandering charlatan's trickery. The last such intruder to their rather isolated settlement had made off with the Head Farmer's prized cockatrice eggs! However, upon hearing the newcomer's profession, their fears were allayed, and much rejoicing was to be had. Bells were rung, flags were waved, and various articles of food were quietly snatched up by the local urchin gangs. What could cause such a spontaneous celebration, one might ask? A storyteller was here! "A story!" they shouted. "A story!" they demanded, and their worldly visitor acquiesed. With a jug of horned frog milk in hand and a pipe in mouth, he began his tale.

"There lies an island in the Abyssal Ocean, where a great city once ruled over the waves and held sway over the lands of the Elements. We call this city Zanzarinopolis, though nobody alive today knows what name its denizens used. It is said that on its founding, the Oracle himself appeared before ScaredGirl, who held primacy among the elementals of his time, blessing him with the strength and wisdom needed to rule wisely. Accepting the Mark of the Oracle, ScaredGirl founded a settlement, what would one day grow to become the reigning power of the elemental realms, and bestowed upon himself the title of Executive Administrator of the Official Elements Community Fora. Under his reign, the people grew strong and propserous, hunting the native creatures and tending to the land. Those strong in arms and quick in flight honed their skills in his armies, whilst those of great wit and tinkering ability crafted spells and enchanted artifacts with great care. A system of laws was set into place, and as the years went by, the wise elders began to pass down their knowledge in the temples, which initially numbered twelve-- one for each element.

When the Executive Administrator erected the first Oracular temple, elemental energy blossomed in this new city, an entire quantum's worth for each of its dozen pillars, and this bounty was approved by the Gods as they threw a nova into the sky. At this, the thinkers rejoiced-- and the captains marched. With this energy the admin set off on an unparalleled expansion, putting into place many of the modern and standard elemental traditions as we know them today, among them the Naming of the Staff Positions and the Trials of Mastery. Yes, I see you recognize these titles! Perhaps slightly diminished appellations in the modern age, but it is a testament to the Executive Administrator's legacy that even his captains are worshipped today as mini-Moderators in their own right. Yes, the False Gods themselves kneeled before ScaredGirl on that fateful day, and at dusk they rode out to expand the borders of Zanzarinopolis. Soon rumors spread of this great new leader, carried by messengers in all directions, rumors of the strength of his captains, of the splendor of his cities, of the power of his feats. Elementals of all types flocked to his banner, eager to share in the glory of SG. From fallen druids to firefly queens, from hungry otyughs to firey lava golems, from powerful dual turn sundials of the desert to the barren cold wastes of dead graveyards, all came to know the might of SG. As the armies spread, cities threw open their gates and cheered, eager to receive the blessings of the High King. The flag of Zanzarinopolis soon flew over all nations, and for the first time in history, all elementals served a single Administrator. Thus began the Golden Age of Elements.

But this utopia was not to last. As the decades passed, so too did the unity of the people. In the Oracle's Temple, the wisest of the elementals gathered to address the growing discord and dissent, but their efforts only served to exacerbate the problems as they processed the incoming streams of complaints.

'Life is better than Fire!'

'T50 gave me too much free stuff! I want a real opponent, damnit!'

'How do I beat AI-2?'

'World of Elements coming: Soonâ„¢'

'Only noobz use Dim shield! Pls nerf!'

At this, the Master of Aether grew incensed. 'Dim shield is not OP! There exist a plethora of counters to it. Not a day goes by when some sneaking darkness elemental doesn't steal a dozen or two, or the fire elementals lobbing fire bolts and explosives into our domain! Dim shield is fine as is!'

At this, the wise Idea Guru interjected, 'The existence of a counter does not necessarily prove or disprove the OP-ness of a card. What is truly important is the impact such a card has on the metagame, the number of cards and strategems it suppresses and counters, compared to the number of cards that it is weak against.'

The Aether elemental replied, 'The complaint in question has no legitimate basis! Plenty of decks can deal with dim shield. Does not the poison of death elementals bypass our shields? The momentum of the gravity elementals? What of those masters of defense, the wielders of miracle and shard of gratitude? Dimensional shield has no effect against stalls. Dimensional shields are also expensive; quantum denial has spelt the doom of many an aether wielder. It is clear that even decks that lack those direct counters of pulverizer, explosion, and steal can be effective against decks using dimensional shield. Therefore, it is not OP.'

'It should be noted that the presence of dim shield completely counters an entire classification of deck-- The rush deck. Do you deny that dim shield oppresses and dis-incentivizes the use of far more deck combinations than would counter it? The size of the metagame is surely smaller because of it.' The old thinker pointed out.

'Those decks that would be blocked completely by dim shield are interchangeable; in my view, it is only one deck that truly suffers, the generic 'rush-and-put-out-creatures-asap' deck.' The Aether Master retorted.

'Let us then compare the effect of dimensional shield to that of other shields, using titanium shield as a baseline comparison. Titanium costs four units of quanta, and blocks two damage per creatures per round of battle. Dimensional shield costs six units of quanta, blocks all physical damage, but lasts only three rounds.' suggested the Idea Guru. 'If we take titanium shield as an example of a well balanced artifact, then if dimensional shield blocks more damage for a cheaper price, it is OP.'

'Very well. Dimensional shield requires recharging-- it must be replaced every three rounds, and each replacement costs 6, versus titanium shield's 4. To simplify for the purposes of our debate, let us say that dimensional shield costs 5 times titanium shield. 6 to 4 is a 1.5 times cost, and the average duel sees at least three to four uses of dimensional shield. Against three emerald dragons, dimensional shield blocks 30 damage a turn, versus titanium shield's 6. That ratio seems fair to me.'

'Well--'

The discussion continued in this manner, first for days, then weeks as the two defended their positions. The Council of Elementals engaged heavily with this discourse, applauding well made points and ridiculing poorly reasoned ones. It is said that in these final hours, the Council received enlightenment on the nature of balance. Unfortunately, this did nothing to reduce the number complaints, which began to pile up, scroll after scroll after scroll, until finally, Zanzarinopolis collapsed under the weight of the increasing demands, and fell under the waves. Thus ended the First Age of Elements. Thus ended the Age of ScaredGirl.

*Cough*

So the great and mighty Fabian has been dealing with some heavy issues and has been unable to fill in the only weakness me and Meow have, here at FHM 2 girls 1 brawl. As a result, I've had to step in. This is going to be horrid.

Seeing I'm going to abyssmally fail at this task, I decided to try something... Very, very different.

Before the war that destroyed the crowns, elements lived in alliances and harmony, to the point of symbiosis. Across the world, you will see lost relics of this age from time to time, but none are as rare or as held in such high esteem as the Zenith Cubes. (http://www.roblox.com/games/28605419/Zenith-Cube)

The aether mages were the greatest at teleporting to and fro, acting as merchants and guides, but these portals were fragile and easily disruptible. The earth mages wanted to be able to sell their high, high quality smithery, and struck a good deal with Aether. They build stronger teleporters, and they be allowed to use them.

It was an immediate success, with Zenith Cubes being used both in the sky and in the space between dimensions. Even though those who sided with aether overtook them and turned them into horrific siege engines, There is still an eerie sense of camaraderie, even after the last peaceful inhabitants of these cubes past away aeons ago. All those signs, all those little secrets. All those things only friends would do to each other.

So yeah. Instead of just painting it, I sculpted out a small map for you lot to have a bit of an exploration in. I've hid a few secrets, too. In case you missed it:

Mechanic's Apprentice
Create (and provide two examples of) a new card mechanic that could be applied to several new and/or pre-existing creatures. At least one example must be a new card.

Augmentation
verb
ôɡˈment/
1. make (something) greater by adding to it; increase.

Augmenting is a new mechanic that affects quanta. The most basic form of it will be:

Quote
Double a quanta pool

This can be seen in a spell form like this:

However, this will also be available on creatures as well. For example:

This ability could be altered to fit other elements and be placed on several vanilla creatures throughout the game (with obvious re-balancing since it is a fairly powerful ability). For example, this ability could be given to creatures like

Now obviously, having a bunch of creatures with the same ability with different elements is boring (*cough cough* every creature quanta generator :P *cough*). So here's another card to settle that problem. It's not even a creature; this one's a permanent! (ooh how exciting)

NOTES:
For clarification, think of this like regular augmentation but the doubled quanta is placed in random quanta pools rather than all in Entropy

Example situation:
You have 75 :entropy quanta.
You cast an upgraded Bizarre Beacon.
You now have 70 :entropy quanta.
70 quanta is now spread out throughout the 12 quanta pools (this quanta is NOT the 70 :entropy you currently have, it's quanta that is being created right now and being spread around)
You now probably have 75 :entropy and around 5-6 quanta in all the others.

Our new mechanic is a passive ability called Feedback.  Feedback is triggered by targeting the creature with a spell or ability.  The effect can be either positive or negative depending on the card.  Here are a few examples:

Mechanic: Counter Tactics
Counter Tactics are effects that activate during your opponent's turn when they do a specific action. Traps gives more depths to the decision making in the game, since now players might have something else to think about when playing cards. Either  they do the action, and take the hit, or they avoid doing to prevent the activation of the Counter Tactics. Of course, for some Counter Tactics you can try to play around them, like giving your opponent something weak when they play Thief, and this too adds another strategic element to the game.

Here are some examples of the new mechanics, including a new permanent, a new creature, and a remade old creature:

IDEA:
Espithel
NOTES:
Introducing caring about being targeted, the new invention by your favourite saltily demoralised corruption god! The idea is simple, of course. Something happens if you, or your opponent, targets the card. How it's targeted is irrelevant - Buff it, debuff it, blow it up! (AoE not withstanding.) The effect'll happen before the effect of the target takes place.

For example, cockatrices petrify things when they look at them, and I'd think zapping them with a bolt of lightning would not go unnoticed. This card

The beauty of this mechanic is how modifiable it is, as well as the fact it can self-insert into more complex mechanics.

This is a negative effect, one that discourages targeting. You can easily make an effect that makes targeting it encouraged, stacking tons of buffs onto one creature and creating a twist on the "Buff a vampire stilleto to absurd proportions" deck, or big vag. However, you can still go a few layers deeper and create cards such as this one:

IDEA:
Espithel
NOTES:
My vanilla cards are designed to show you clean, simple cards that can get added into the game.
My custom cards are designed to show you interesting explorations of this mechanic.

This is a card that you can splash 1-3 of in a deck that wants to run a lot of PC in case they're scared of dims, or a lot that wants to run a lot of enchant artifact in case they're retarded.

The drawing is the reward for targeting, and everything else is to try and stop from you not immediately using it and then targeting it; Look at all the earth it gives you! And if you try to enchant it to get all that earth and free cards, it caves in when targeted to give you the finger. That's not cool. You gotta play the risk, d00d.

I would expect this to be a card played in war, giving earth a bit of a mind-game against annoying elements like :aether or :water, which don't have PC (Traditionally). If you don't prepare for this and give it to them for free, you're going to cry at all that card advantage.

But this is just a random strange permanent. How about something cleaner, simpler, and kinkier? Introducing:

IDEA:
Frozengaia
NOTES:
The momentum and undelaying riders are there to spice up the thing and make this worth targeting on its own. You have all the ways of buffing its ATK, and if you're to compare this to Big Vag, you just need special bonuses, like vampirism or momentum.

The readying rider is there to give it in-element synergy with basilisk blood and the warden, whilst the momentum rider is there to not force you to combo this with gravity every single kekking time.

Now, the upgraded card is strong on its own. to prevent it from being utterly silly silly with decks that don't care about targeting, I've removed the readying rider to make it less resiliant. You gotta build up those targets!

But how do you get enough targeting cards? Are the wardens enough? But they only work on this card. Other cards we could make that beg to be the target of stuff probably don't want to be delayed, or lobotomised, or infected every shiva-damn turn. As a result, we could do with some more reliable targeting cards to make this work. Such as...

IDEA:
Myrmiredon
NOTES:
To stress:
My vanilla cards are designed to show you clean, simple cards that can get added into the game.
My custom cards are designed to show you interesting explorations of this mechanic.

Here, we have a lobotomisable gravity pull for spells. The difference between the unupped and upped is that the unupped copies, whilst the upped redirects. That means double SoW, double blessing, double targeting. That's why it costs 2.5x more than the upped. Of course, it also opens you up for massive 2-for-1s with RT, freeze, and the ilk, something which the upped actively tries to prevent.

The best part of this mechanic is how it can easily insert itself into other mechanics; I was planning to show you a divination card (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/series/divination-series/) with the chaining being triggered by the targeting, not the usage of one of its abilities, but we all know how... Divisive divination cards are.

I hope these four cards divide all the voters into two neat categories, though: People who vote for FHM, and people with no taste.
Thanks and good night/day/afternoon/midnight/noon/bedtime/breakfast/super/grey goo!

When thinking of a deck to represent our bond, I needed to look no further than the :fire element and our favorite card Phoenix. With many Phoenix-based decks to choose from, I decided on ImmoPhoenix (Cremations in the deck above). She loved the versatility this deck had and the speed that it could crush its opposition.

I still remember how much she disliked the changes that Zanz made to :fire and the obvious weakening of this deck. Even so, it's the deck I'll always remember her by.

Maybe someday Zanz will return to update the game and we'll see the return of many old players and friends, ~Napalm included.

My life has been plagued by quite a few medical problems.  No specific event really sticks out.  No specific doctor or procedure.  Just a constant slew of them trying to make me feel better.  Some working somewhat, but never completely.  Helping, but never solving the problem.  A problem that slowly gets worse while only symptoms are treated.

As such, this deck contains many healing cards.  Cards that heal the symptoms of the opponent (damage) but don't really have any way to deal with the actual problem (their creatures).  Sure, technically you can win by decking the opponent out, or with the slow damage of the Nymphs (nurses) but like life, playing this deck will probably only end in defeat.

I have chosen my childhood sports hero, Brett Favre (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brett_Favre) as the basis of my deck.

*Note* While this deck does not play particularly well, each card has been selected with a purpose and therefore it has very solid ties to the task of connecting a deck to a hero.

Explanation of cards:

Steel Golem
Brett Favre - 4 cost creature representing his jersey number (4) and the Steel Golem's 9 HP are representative of his toughness (record 297 consecutive regular season starts).

Vanadium Warden
Offensive Line - 'Guard' ability represents what offensive lineman do for a quarterback (such as Brett Favre) with the quantity 5 being representative of the typical NFL 5 offensive lineman sets or lineups. Also, they are the same element, like a 'team', as the main hero!

Pegasus
Receivers - Fast and can 'fly' down the field (airborne in Elements; running fast in slang real life language) for targets for the Quarterbacks to throw to.

Precognition
Pre-snap read of the defense by the quarterback.

Improved Heal
Trainers and team doctors.

Nightfall

Thunderstorm

Flooding
...flooding the playingfield.

Entropy Pendulums and Supernova
Quanta generation so the deck can play cards as a deck and not just be a lifeless pile of cards.

If I had to choose one person to call a personal hero, it'd be my friend and mentor Thomas. He's taught me quite a lot about myself, the world, and really just opened my eyes in general.
In his honor, I present to you this deck!

Card selections:
Anubis:  The ideal teacher.  A good teacher will give you the wisdom and knowledge to shield yourself from anything, much how an Anubis will imbue a target with the knowledge to do just that.
Precognition:  With knowledge, you begin to almost see the future.  Not in a literal sense, but you know enough to predict what will happen and prepare for it.  It's very much the same with seeing what cards your opponent has in hand; you can play around them.
Shard of Wisdom:  After you know how to protect yourself, you don't stop learning.  The natural next step is how to more effectively attack your opponent.  Shard of Wisdom not only increases the damage you do, but bypasses shields, making your attacks that much more potent.

First and foremost, let's start with the basics, here are the phonemes translated into our alphabet:
(note the missing rings on v/w and jh and zh).

The writing system borrows heavily from Hebrew, with vowels appearing below consonants.  Unlike Hebrew this still reads left to right.  Also unlike Hebrew (and like English) consonants can be combined the form new consonant sounds (s+h making a 'sh' sound instead of needing a separate letter for example).
The symbols are far more complicated than most writing systems.  The system was invented and mostly used by an aristocratic priest class in the beginning.  As such, they wanted a system that seemed regal, and was less accessible to the uneducated masses.  Eventually, a less stylistic "cursive" was invented, and is what is used when most people write, though books are still published in this classic style.

History of the Elemental Alphabet
Long ago, the kingdoms communicated, but had no way of keeping theair communications recorded. Amongst the more known communities, oral dialects were fine, but in other shadowy kingdoms of loneliness and deceit, sought beings were often killed These creatures marked their territory, and over time different markings belonged to different territories. These Marks began to infuse stone with their power, and those became the first pillars. From the Marks, too, the general consonants of each creature were derived. And from the Marks the Elemental Alphabet was born.

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ, you ain't getting an alphabet out of me.

A long time ago in a corner of the internet far, far away, 12 Elements were created. But they were not all that encompasses the make-up of the universe. Zanzarino was special, gifted, and close to god-like in the eyes of his followers...
But he knew nothing of the Midichlorians from which he was conceived. There was a 13th Element. The Force Element!
Its Quanta is marked by the symbol of the Light Side of the Force (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Light_side_of_the_Force), but inverted, highlighting the central power spikes which are prominent in the Dark Side of the Force (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_side_of_the_Force). The Force Element is indiscriminate, and does not lean either to the Dark or the Light.

Cards of War
When an unknown ally enters the field of battle, allies are given the element of surprise. The opponent is caught of guard, and can give an edge in war. This card represents that, by buffing allies that may not be expected, emphasising this advantage that it may hold.

Alternatively, it may also give the weak and unfamiliar a starter, to get them going to achieve great things. Totally not foreshadowing
(http://i.imgur.com/dbeq6tt.png) (http://i.imgur.com/e24Qn12.png)

The Deck to Face the Apocalypse
In a post-apocalyptic world, where little remain, those who do remain must scavenge off the scraps that remain. They can multiply quickly, and given their situation, they will accept any advantage they get. They can obtain energy from spectral towers, a protection against the dangers from the apocalypse, and may even be given blessings from the stars! Phase Salvagers are used to represent these here, as they salvage what they can find, protecting it from further harm, or they can band together, potentially risking the harm of others, but creating a larger, and safer, group.

The void is unhappy with this. They do not like the revolt that is coming, and will do whatever it can to take the remaining back into its blackened depths. Even if it means helping one enemy to take down another.

So how does this tie in with Sci Fi?
When one hears "Sci Fi," either one of 2 images comes to mind. The first is a laser battle in space, with a race (humans for instance) in spacecrafts, in a war against a harmful race of aliens. The other option is a futuristic civilisation, perhaps dystopian, with super-advanced technology (or the remnants of it), and toys with the theory of the unknown and "what could be in the future".

We toy with the latter, to bring a card, scavenged after the wreckage of the armageddon, and brought as a blessing from the stars to assist in those fighting to survive. The deck follows on with this story and theme, with the only creatures being frail and dying if not helped, but when given assistance, they can do great things. While their enemy is struggling to fight the planet as they slowly wither away from the harsh conditions, their fragmented sanity broken beyond healing.

Fiery-Hot Mixtape: No submission

Team Road Trip!
A Toadally Newtral Team VS Gaia's Pride

Stake: 8 points!

- Organize a team road trip for your brawl team. Make an itenerary list of destinations, travel plans, and other site seeing activities you might do while picking up or meeting each person from your team. (teammates do not have to give out their locations if they don't want to, use generic locations in this case). Make travel plans for 1 week worth of Road Trip/Vacationing.
Include:
  • At least 2 different  types of transportation (personal car, bus, plane, boat)
  • Some food from the local destinations (At least one each of Breakfast, Lunch, Supper)
  • At least 2 tourist attractions for the team to enjoy together(Professional Sports Game, Museum, Holiday Resort)

Example: Most of Team ABC's members are from North America, and a few from South America. None of them have been to Europe. The boss plans a trip to Europe for them all to meet up and go on a cruise ship sailing into different ports around Europe. They enjoy a fresh made supper at a local restaurant, and then enjoy music in the evening at a street performance.
(I did not give lots of detail in example to save on potential ideas for the challenger and challengee)

Did some people misunderstand the Forum Expert task?

Aside from the Fiery-Hot Mixtape's submission (which was kinda funny).. 2 others just matched up words with the already existing alphabet...

Did I miss something, or did they?

---

Also, Abyss Crawlers' is like Hieroglyphics.

The task was a bit (I think intentionally) vague.  We interpreted it to mean creating letter equivalents that are Elements themed, then stepped it up a notch and made it not be a 1to1 replacement.  I can see the validity of making an elements themed Alphabet Book like Gaia and LoS did too though.

Design an Elements Alphabet! - seems pretty straight forward to me... no 'book' mentioned.

The title was probably misleading, but as stated in a previous round, not necessarily the thing to base your submissions on.

Well, think of it this way. Which is more time consuming? Creating an alphabet, or playing the alphabet game?

Toss in the fact that Clean0nion said that it was not necessary to upload the font as a .tff or .off (if those are the proper file names) and you have two things that insinuate an alphabet with letters should be made, rather than an alphabet 'book'.

I'd also like to note that Brawl isn't a "who puts in more time" contest though either...

No, but one can be done in thirty seconds and doesn't really offer a chance to go above and beyond whereas the other can increase in elegance and design with the more time you spend on it. That is what I meant by "takes more time".

Only one of those I would estimate to be anywhere near a 30 second task.  In any case, may the community vote in masses and the best submissions win!

The criteria you place your vote on is yours alone, of course, but what russianspy said was basically it. We choose to interpret the task as "Make an elements themed alphabet" -- the alphabet in our submission being the standard 26 of the english alphabet, and then we applied an elements theme to each letter. Could we have made cool looking arcane symbols and called them letters that correspond to various phonemes? Certainly, and plenty of teams have done a fine job of it. But is that the only valid way to approach the task? I respectfully disagree.

[13:35:56] CleanOnion [»] Physsion: you have a range of options - you could either make a new font with elements-like symbols (as hinted at in the description)
[13:36:20] CleanOnion [»] Physsion: or you could just arrange Elements things alphabetically, as hinted in the title of the task
[13:37:05] CleanOnion [»] Physsion: you  could make a song to the tune of "ay bee cee dee ee eff gee", ( /  twinkle twinkle little star / baa baa black sheep, it's all the same  tune)
[13:37:20] CleanOnion [»] Physsion: consider it like an Artist task where the theme is Alphabet
[13:37:58] CleanOnion [»] Physsion: maybe inspiration will strike you elsewhere
[13:38:27] CleanOnion [»] Physsion: maybe make a whole new method for etg creatures to share ideas

What you people also have to remember is you can still validly vote on something even if it >IS< misinterpreted.
Last brawl, my team won a writer's task by making an hilarious infomercial when we were supposed to right a review for a high-tech elements gadget.

Inb4 we get third again by doing nothing due to strategic pity-votes

No, if you want to complain about misinterpretation this round, complain about Gaia's Pride pretending that 3 different cards share a single, unified mechanic, then going on to say that this non-mechanic can be added onto vanilla creatures without actually explaining how because they don't share a mechanic.

Or how LoS made only one card.

Or how Chaosomes and I share the same mechanic and Abyss Brawlers and I share the same card. That was a fun coincidence.

As for FHM's late DB/Writer tasks, they'll be up later today as late submissions (We promise this time). They just weren't finished and I had already spent 12 hours on the computer by the time deadline was almost there. Fabian would've murdered me if I didn't do the artist task, and I'm a lazy numnut who needs juuust a little bit more time.

Boss & WriterA Toadally Newtral Team: Definitely the best out of all of them.Gaia's Pride: Definitely one of the better stories in the sense that you could tell that it actually followed the theme, and you have to applaud them for writing a twist that caught me completely off guard!
ArtistFiery-Hot Mixtape: Definitely a rather creative way of creating a landscape; it also looks pretty great to boot.Abyss Brawlers: Definitely a rather funny and creative twist on the prompt.
CDLeague of Shadows: Definitely an interesting, if rather complicated, mechanic.Abyss Brawlers: One of the more interesting mechanics.
DBA Toadally Newtral Team: I really liked this deck and the reasoning for it, and it looks like a good deck too.League of Shadows: Does a good job of relating to the hero (Batman) and also seems to be a pretty good deck in terms of games.
FEThe Chaosomes: Definitely an interesting alphabet that relates to Elements pretty well. Also pretty creative, too. I like it!League of Shadows: Definitely one of the better Elements "alphabet books" made for this competition.
BonusAbyss Brawlers: Definitely like all the detail put into these cards!League of Shadows: Of the other submissions, this one is the best.

AB: At least Hermes doesn't have a no-brainer counter (I'm glaring at you, Serket~) :p

LoS: Damnit. I swear I don't know deuce personally (never mind knowing him IRL), but I always found him speaking the Master of Aether's lines in my head! XD

Artists:
AB's entry is so HILARIOUS BEYOND WORDS that they certainly deserve an honorable mention here (http://elementscommunity.org/chat/skin/smilies/sillyspin.gif)

Card Designers
GP: I don't think I'm going to like Augmentation mechanics, especially if they're also in-element relative to one of the three elements with 'incremental-bolt' (Fire, Water, and Darkness).

TC: Interesting. Regarding Uncontrolled Flame, I assume that (1) you'll be damaged when you buff UF, and (2) whoever buffs UF takes damage. Are they right?

ATNT: As much as I don't really like Augmentation mechanics, I think I'm going to like Corruption mechanics even less, especially in conjunction with hand-denial tactics like Nightmare, SoBrav, or Silence. Sorry ><

FHM: Personally, I don't think your entry and TC's the exact same. TC have explicitly declared that their mechanic is a passive ability (meaning, no overwriting/Lobotomizing it). Since there were nothing said about whether your mechanics is a passive or an active one, I'm inclined to assume that your mechanic is an active ability.

Deckbuilders:
TC's entry doesn't look like it can even treat its symptoms, considering how few pillars they have compared to the deck size. ><

AB: Eh? Napalm was a female? (I'm not their contemporary, and I've always assumed that Napalm was a male)

ATNT: There are times when your wisdom can be used against yourself. Is that aspect intentionally added into the deck?

Forum Experts:
TBH, this time my vote is composed of 'one best new alphabet system' and 'one best alphabet-book'.
If I have to disregard alphabet-books style entries and have to choose ones where new writing systems are depicted, I'm seriously considering to choose FHM at the second place (the second, since the first is certainly still ATNT's). No, this is not a joke. As someone who's aware of multiple kinds of scripts -- Javanese abugida, Greek alphabet, Cherokee syllabary, and Japanese syllabaries (yep, syllabaries; Japanese is actually written with a mixture of one ideography system (kanji, which is pretty much borrowed from Chinese hanzi) and two syllabary systems (hiragana, katakana)), for example -- I take a great deal of fuss about alphabet simplicity.
That being said, TC's entry is easily vying against FHM's very bizzare entry for the second place among the 'alphabetic' systems (even with my assumption that they're going abugida with this script); despite their rather complicated consonants (which was a rather big turnoff for me), tons of thought have certainly went into this. However, IMO, AB's entry fares better as a ideographic system than a syllabary or abugida one, nevermind an alphabetic system.

Bonus II
Mind Control/Jedi Mind Control: Does the Lobotomy happpens before the target start to attacking their master, after they started to attack, or after they finished attacking?

Force Lightning: Can they dispel Cloak?

Wookie: What if there is only one enemy in the field? Can the ricochet injure an immortal being?
(I'm seeing Force/Entropy Wookie-centric domins going to fare better than Water/Air Toadfish-centric domin XP)

(I was going to raise up a fuss about FracThal, but since it's going to be at least a trio (Force/Aether/Light) to actually harness their ability, I guess I shouldn't XP)

GP: to a SW-blind me, I don't really think it's really Star-Wars-ish. And don't give Gravity players ideas to run Grav Salv/SoVo decks! (http://elementscommunity.org/chat/skin/smilies/sillyspin.gif)

TC: Simple, elegant. To help matters to your cause, Zaw is actually a BM (a temporary one, admittedly, but I digress). XP

LoS: Being Reigned by Darkness isn't necessarily being reigned by the Dark Side of the Force, though (http://elementscommunity.org/chat/skin/smilies/sillyspin.gif)

ATNT: Another simple entry, but~ is Tim cosplaying as Yoda? XD

MC: Lobo happens as you use the spell
Lighning: would remove cloak, as all other AoE, sorry, missed that on card.
Wookie: if only one enemy, will be hit twice. Immortal creatures can't be hit, similar to how AOE doesn't hit them. Toadfish can stack poison, so after turn 2 they become more totally damaging than wookie, and more controlled.
Yeah i thought of fracThal too, but the cost and trio I deemed prohibitive enough

Had fun doing that task :)

The task was revised by CO to be "Sci Fi" related and not strictly Star Wars related. That is why you see a not-very-SW submission from GP. (Thanks, overall, for the very in-depth revelation about your votes, Bas!)

Indeed.  It's supposed to have the vowels directly under the consonants, but time ran short.

Comments on Boss/Writer task. Onlky task I'm really qualified to critique. I'll post my thoughts behind votes for other tasks too, though they prolly won't be as detailed. Hope this is enlightening!

Boss/Writer

This task should be pretty fun to write for, as it allows you to do almost whatever you like with style while still being interesting with the restraints. It does make it very hard to objectively judge though, so I will use how much I liked the story as the main measure. I'm also interested in how '
Elements Philosopher and Elements Religious Figure ' are portrayed, so bonus points if you can nail that.

ATNT: Fairly standard perspectives from the Philosopher and Priest, which kinda falls flat as their conversation isn't very substantial. Their discussion might be about war strategy, but it's very light on that topic too. What I'm saying is, your story failed to develop a consistent tone/theme/message. It lightly touched a philosophical debate but that felt like it was the musing of one person, not two (the stances were too passive, it was more of a negotiation than an argument to me). The topic of stalling o not stalling could've been strengthened with some actual strategy or a proper depiction of war. You could bring up the cost of lives, the price paid in hopes and dreams, something more than just banter which sounds trivial.

TC: That… was pretty hard to read. You could've at least put in quotation marks to make it apparent who was speaking. Aside from that, I like how you condense on the topic. The personalities are flat too, though they at least consistently follow their trope. I like the arguments used, they do resonate somewhat. It'd be better if it were a bit more fleshed out, but that might've made it lose its charm.

GP: The subject is quite fascinating, and the interpretation of the characters is very interesting. Sadly it's downhill from there :/
The biggest problem in the piece is the perspective. You're using the third person and  present tense, so the writing acts like a cinematic showing the exact events happening in the room impartially. But then the adverbs come and mess up the impartial view, so it seems like you're reading this through someone's view. But whose view is it? At first it follows the girl, showing the father as cold and the girl as innocent and helpless. But for the last line it suddenly changes to the father, showing that he does have emotions. After he says "Your mother, frankly, is irrelevant." This exchange really confuses the piece, and I've learned the hard way that confusing the piece is the worst thing a writer can do. I recommend acknowledging that the first time you write is for yourself (so go crazy) but the rewrite is for the reader (so you need to ensure it's decent to read).
All in all, good debate and good characters. If you could kink out the writing flaws and make the final exchange more clear, it'd be a great story! Good work.

AB: The start of the piece… is kinda bad. You keep using wordy phrases and often the words used seemed wrong. It's not even a style which fits the oracle. You should try to improve your descriptions.
After that I was hooked. The dialogue flows perfectly, the words perfectly fitting the speaker and their actions. The argument is engaging and the conclusion is satisfyingly deep. And the characters are very well thought out. I suppose the description did lower my expectations and enhance the dialogue, so perhaps it all works out in the end? Great job.

LoS: I try not to bring formatting into a judgement of writing skill, and I mostly ignored ATNT and GP's color modifications (though they did make it a bit easier to read). But when you changed the font here, the writing became harder to read easily. You forced the reader into taking notice and working through your story, and so you should reward them for it. But the tone set in the introduction, in the story or in the argument don't reflect the strict discipline laid down in the font. That was a disappointment.
The description at the start of the tale is a bit heavy-handed, which is discouraging on top of the font. The storyteller's story is pretty immersive, though the long paragraphs are hard to follow with the font. But at the end, the story just seems to be half-assed. The entire empire collapsed just because of a debate about Dim shield? Or it just collapsed under complaints? It kinda… sounds like a story which you say to a kid on the road to keep them occupied, without having to worry about the effects. The argument is decent, but it isn't supported by very good characters.
In the end, the story is promising and actually decent. But all the little flaws add up, which kinda tells you that the story isn't working (if it were, all the flaws would fade instead of popping up at the surface).

"Fiery-Hot Mixtape: No submission" : Well that's a shame.

The formatting: Fair enough. Duly noted.

The ending: Well, imagine that there's a UN convention on climate change. And then all of the ambassadors, heads of state, scientists, etc get into a very interesting discussion on the merits and challenges of colonizing Mars, and this discussion lasts for weeks, by far eclipsing the original intent of the meeting, all the while forgetting about the original problem (and their original job descriptions). So you have a society where the ruling council and the brightest statesmen and philosophers are having a very intellectual and enlightening discussion... while the world around them is collapsing and none of them are actually doing their jobs. That was the intent behind the ending, anyways. Any criticism is welcome; what do you suggest that I could have improved on to better convey that message here?

Side-note/explanation: The debate also pokes fun at: A. the "Nerf this Card" Dim shield thread. B. the community/general EtG population's response to certain things(t50 is too easy! Good times, no?), and then ties that together with C. an attempt to explore Scaredgirl's disappearance and how the first forum collapsed in a fairy-tale/mythology/Atlantis inspired theme.

First up, I should note that worded my preamble pretty badly. What I posted wasn't truly a well-formed critique, more like my thought process typed out. I wrote it for myself, but couldn't rewrite it for the readers due to time constraints. So I may use words harshly, but they're not meant in offensive tones.

The crux of the issue is at the list of the complaints. Until then your style really did reflect the grandiose style of a myth. But the list breaks the fourth wall from the start and asks you join along in the hilarity. But before it can be properly built up the flow breaks with "At this, the Master of Aether grew incensed." halting the list midway. You can sort of envision that this part was a flashback to that day, with the list being read by an impersonal announcer. But still, the story doesn't lead you there naturally. Breaking the story apart could've helped, or changing the font.

After that, the ending resorts back to the original style for a brief moment, which is where the effects of the differences in style become apparent. And by then you've forgotten the crux of the issue, the moment where it can be traced. What pops up is the exchange, which is kinda neutral to the style. If you read the debate and the aftermath, you really can't decide what the perspective of the storyteller is.

Was the debate a historic event? But then where is its significance? The ending depicts the debate to be as mundane as it really is, but mundane is not something which fits into a historical dialogue.
Was it a personal experience by the storyteller? But then where is the passion?
Or was it passed down as a myth, which you seemed to have intended. But then it really lacks in grandeur, especially with how rushed the ending is. A true mythology should've also depicted the actual downfall, the rush of armies to the council building and the chaos.
And if you wanted to tell it in a logic-free fairy-tale, I'd advise you to place the emphasis on the main event. You build up to it and depict its aftermath in vivid detail, so that the event is etched into the reader's mind and the moral can be fathomed by them (if they just gloss over a point, they'll never catch its true significance).

Your references were good, just needed to be threaded together better. If I had to rewrite this, I'd go for a more lighthearted tone and set the perspective inside the council room. You wouldn't have to force the backstory on the reader, but could do it in more meaningful ways. For example, you could introduce Scaredgirl as standing beneath a great statue of himself being blessed by the oracle. And there could be a comment in the debate from Antagon, 'who had won fame through his conquest of three elemental territories in one night.' You could represent the issue of complaints multiple times within the debate, thus building up for the eventual fall.
Also, I'd revise the characters so that they'd be more life-like. 'Master of Aether' and 'wise Idea Guru' are kinda bland without the proper imagery. You're relying too much on people recognizing them and having their iconic stature breath life into them. But you could've done so yourself by enhancing the debate, visualizing their actions (not their speech though, that's the dialogue's job) and introducing other council members to support them.

Of course my ideas might make the story a bit too long, and I'd prefer to keep it short enough for the whole dialogue to be fresh in the mind. So I guess I'm lucky I didn't really have to write it myself xP

FE The Chaosomes: a lot of work, even if the "script" doesn't work for me Fiery-Hot Mixtape: u should ask for a mixtape or a freestyle, not an alphabet
BonusAbyss Brawlers: really nice the layout of the cards League of Shadows: second only because instead of the elements login screen, it should show an arena deck in plat with dishole or monodarkness

Notes for my votes besides Boss/Writer:

Artist: FHM

I'd already looked at the pictures before gathering my thoughts on this task, though I guess I wouldn't be very objective anyways. Let's see what wows me.

LoS: *Heavy Breathing*
FHM: Whoa. Couldn't play the game, but those beauty shots are nice. The concept is fascinating too.
TC: A good take on the techie aether theme, but FHM outclasses you here imo.
AB: I like the style of altering the landscape again and again, and laughed at the moon crash ^.^ But many of the landscapes look very rushed, would've preferred a better design across the board.
ATNT: The concept of nightfall creeping from one side is interesting. The landscape is great too. But the dulled paint kinda ruins it.
GP: Ok… landscape… what is that guy doing with the bird? :O

LoS has great art, and this is an EtG landscape, but in the end it's a bit bleak. Sorry LoS. Tough call between ATNT and FHM, but in the end I'm choosing FHM based on who implemented their vision better.

FE: LoS

Wow me. And an alphabet needs to be easy to write, if you create a new script.

AB & TC: Hard script.
FHM: No.
GP: LoS does it better.
LoS: Good
ATNT: It's a bit lacklustre, but at least an authentic script. Is it really derived from the marks?

If ATNT could've made their submission more substantial and showed how the letters come from the marks, they'd win my vote. As it is, LoS is the best.

CD: TC

Needs to be balanced and interesting. Let's seee…
GP: I'm confused. Is augment permanent? Then perhaps Nature Queen is ok. These could have been costed lower, at least the in-element ones. Decent idea, but very poor implementation in my eyes.
TC: Interesting mechanic… it just seems weak? On second thought it kinda asks you to build a deck around it for the good ones, so that could be a thing. Chorus angel should've gotten something different from just more stats for a burst (since stats aren't very exciting in EtG). Jelly… looks unreliable and meh. I really love Seer tho, and like the idea for Flame even tho your version is pretty OP.
ATNT: Bactal will be worse than Devtal D: The spell is decent, but the idea seems a bit too annoying to me. Plus changing 1st card in hand 1st means the cards which the opponent has held for longer is changed. Which makes it harder to deal with these things. Unhealthy design, imo.
LoS: The mechanic basically overhauls several cards and just adds an unnecessary level of complexity. I mean discards could be a thing. Why didn't you focus on discards?
AB: I really love your idea, although the implementation left a lot to be desired. Auto Turret really does not deserve a card slot, it should've been a weapon. And cockatrice's effect simply means your opponent needs to kill it last. Ofco it protects against multi-target kills, but only OE falls in that category. Still it's an ok idea, and I just love thief (I kinda wish thief could be placed somewhere besides darkness for balance, but still it's lovely).
FHM: Much stronger implementation of the target mechanic. New golem might be too strong with accelerate/overdrive. I like the new cards, first is sound thematically while still great mechanically and second is common but still nice. The card text and descriptions could've been done better tho.

Love thief, but that's not enough to vote for AB. Toss-up between TC and FHM: Both have good cards but TC wins for simplicity (and because FHM's ideas, besides the cavern, are a bit expected).

DB:  GP

Most meaningful stuff wins.

LoS: Meh. Cards don't come together into Batman for me.
AB: Meh. Deck is pretty generic, though you really can't represents Naps fully unless you copy one of her iconic decks.
TC: I like what it represents. Not too deep tho.
GP: Wow, that deck really does seem like a team. I think the connection was forged well here, making various cards representing  stuff come together to be the best sum of its parts.
ATNT: You can appreciate the well-meaning thoughts behind the deck, but it doesn't really have too much significance or a strong conection.

Easy vote for GP.

ATNT: You can appreciate the well-meaning thoughts behind the deck, but it doesn't really have too much significance or a strong conection.

One could argue that your judging of the connection or significance is a bad choice, as it is a personal deck, thus relates directly to something that is significant for one person and not necessarily others. I am certain that Timdood3's build of the deck represents his friend as closely as he could, and while not necessarily unique, isn't something I've seen before. Perhaps his friend Thomas saved his life, or helped him with an incredibly tough decision such as where he should go to for college. I do agree on your assessment of Batman (League of Shadows) as Batman is a comicbook superhero, and unless there is a specific story that leads the deckbuilder of LoS to relate with Batman, it's not a personal hero.
