ART: IDEA: Frozengaia NOTES: Cards are discarded by being targeted. You target a card, it's discarded, a death effect happens, then you target your second. The ability is only activatable if you have that many cards. This card works thusly: It starts on the top ability, Critique. If you use critique, you may use the second ability, clarity. At the end of the turn, the permanent goes back to critique, regardless of whether you've used it or not. Any spell that affects an ability treats both abilities as one - say, SoR will reduce both costs to 0 if it was a creature. This is what chaining means. OldTrees has been a really big inspiration to me, and I've found these two aspects to the biggest reasons why. OldTree's Critique weeds out the inferior cards, giving us the Clarity to discover better ones in time. The death effects remind us that these inferior cards are still useful and have purpose, as stepping stones for greater ideas. OldTree is in aether because apparently aether is the mental element. ART: IDEA: Frozengaia NOTES: Mental Expansion is a passive - Discarding a card is an active. Unique is the same quality that flooding, SoPa and Eclipse have - extraneous copies don't do anything, only one does. This is to prevent things getting silly. I only have an hour to design two cards, I don't want to worry too much about things getting silly. You can discard two cards and draw two cards, however. Only Mental Expansion is unique. Drake XIV tutored me a little, and normally it was me spamming ideas at him until I finally found one that worked. This card represents that time I had with him. It is designed to synergise with my OldTrees card, and is in the time element because that's Drake's favourite element, as long as encouraging use of OldTrees' second ability, Clarity, and because time is the most likely to discard cards. It can still discard cards on its own, though, and is in the death element. It represents weeding out the weak ideas so that new ideas can grow, and has eternity/skeleton enabling powers. I decided to make the unupped only draw cards when you discard because of ghostmare's strength unupped. Upped, it's not as powerful, so this could be a handy boost and it's not a simple upgrade. Went for the less literal approach with these, rather than an actual drake or an old tree .

They didn't make this guy an Idea Guru for nothing. He's made a tonne of cards for Elements, so it only makes sense that a Card version of Drake would do the same.

I don't think there's any mechanics that need to be explained here. The Upped costs random quanta, but costs a bit extra because of that. The new creature is another Creator just to settle the argument about what the base creature should be. Can self-target.

It's kinda like a PU, but for abilities only (seeing a the base creature is a bit weak) but that does mean you might be able to substitute (depending on the situation). By self targeting you can fill up a field at a rate comparable to Afla, which is useful for Bonds.

An ancient one of vast knowledge and wisdom. A once active force who now prefers to nurture others to find greatness, with the experience he has gathered.

Ability is active, and refers only to active abilities (although not necessarily triggered). For abilities like Venom, this will only trigger if the ability (i.e. the attack) is successful.

A cheeky little buff to Deja vu, as well as having other in-element synergies with Scarab and SoR. You can of course pair this card up with any creature that has an ability for a fantastic time.

Task Specific Explanations:
Build a Deck themed around your team to beat Halfbloods. PM it to me after finishing it.
You have 1 hour.

I had one hour to complete this task and chose to base at least a couple cards in the deck off my teammates and what I know of them - from this Brawl and any former interactions with Elements and the community.  The secondary goal (indicated second in task) was to beat Halfbloods.  After choosing representative cards for teammates I then tweaked to defeat Halfbloods (minimal testing is possible in the 1-hour time limit).


Explanation of cards:

• Darkness Mark + Life quanta for generating quanta needed - this way allowed me to maximize the Life cards present as the team name has LIFE in it - Meaning of Life.
  
• Jade Dragon is a hard hitter - which decks need against AI4 - and also represent dawn to dusk as the current Master of Life and boss of this team Meaning of Life.
  
• Dusk Mantle provides defense against some of the hard hitters in AI4 decks and represents Treldon the MoL artist as he is up late, for my time zone, and performs most of his duties "after DUSK" (again, per my local Pacific US time zone).
  
• Cloak keeps the MoL creatures safe from opposing targeting CC and represents Annele a somewhat mysterious (to me) but present member of this community that has proven quite valuable in a pinch.
  
• Epinephrine is for myself rob77dp as a lively TitanPad chat-er that also provided effort across a varying number of tasks throughout this Brawl.
  
• Forest Scorpion is kirbylover314, an unknown member of this community (to me) until this event but someone whose personality has grown on me throughout the event - much like the poison from this scorpion on the opponent!
  
• Vampire is useful for healing to survive any fast-starting AI4's and represent Skotadi Phobos late-night activity (even in his OWN time zone) and is tongue-in-cheek for a popular meme around here.
  
• Vampire Dagger is one of the best weapons in the game and can provide a total of 12 HP swings each hit and represent ji412jo as it is known to me (maybe many others too) as his favorite weapon in the game - ji claims it as the best weapon in the game!

Strategy:
1. Play quanta (duh!)
2. Epi application is key - if you need healing use on Vampires if damage ramp then Scorpions.
3. If you face CC then be careful using the limited creatures without a Cloak for protection.
4. Vagger is strong!
5. DUCK haxx shield is often a life-save - deploy often and enjoy!

OK, as it specifies Half-Bloods, so creativity should be matched with results. This actually works.
Frostbite borealis, to me, represents ice and light (borealis)
The sanctuaries heal while creatures are frozen which is actually really necessary for squid decks I find. Also, squid is dd's (our boss) favorite card.

This death/gravity duo deck focuses on using some strong death creatures to deal damage to your opponent along with some gravity cards for efficient CC and further synergy with certain key cards.

Elite Otyugh: Use this card to eliminate enemy creatures, increase the attack of your Condor and fuel the Bone Wall
Shard of Focus: Wait to use this card against troublesome permanents that hinder your strategy
Death Nymph: Apart from being an excellent damage dealer, the active effect can be used to lower the health of enemy creatures in order for Otyugh to devour them.
Another use would be to turn enemy creatures into malignant cells and have them multiply once. After that feed your Oty and always leave at least one malignant cell alive for further multiplication and feeding.

Try to get your Condors and Bonewalls feeded by your Otyugh and Death Nymphs.

Use this deck to power up the sun with red  quanta, until it is strong enough to fry your puny half-blood opponent.

The strategy of the deck is to wear down the half blood with fahrenheit until you have enough quanta and bolts to finish the match, while stalling their damage with the sundials and drawing more quanta with both dials and SoB.

Why the deck represents our team?

Sundials + Fire = Sun on fire = Red Stars = ILLUMINATI CONFIRMED.

Also, we are pretty brave and that saves us from time to time (to draw that last dial we need before we are ready for the kill). More importantly, it wins.[/center]

• Fixed a phantom column/row in the tasks table
• Combined tasks with intro table to remove clutter
• Added standings link, and fixed the "PM the brawlmasters" link so that it automatically sends it to you and Nae (This can be edited to be used with anyone in the future by replacing your user number "u=___" with theirs"
• Put Bonus tasks and challenges in a spoiler since they aren't as relevant but no other changes to them, good format there.
• Moved event card to the intro for the opposite reason
• Added an FAQ section: This section would basically contain little details or answers to likely questions about tasks or the event card or whatever, such as what happens if two people tie, is *blank* acceptable for *blank* task and so forth. A similar thing is done on tournament threads, and since there are often quite a few questions per thread it could save everyone time to have all the answers compiled in one place.
  
  Note: You don't even necessarily have to have anything in the FAQ at the beginning, unless you think it's necessary. You can just add the official answers to any questions people had into the FAQ. It also doesn't have to be a part of the first post; a second post consisting of an FAQ would be fine.

Normally, we were supposed to have Artist TFO the 1st week, Deck Builder TFO the 2nd week, Forum Expert TFO the 3rd week, Card Designer TFO the 4th week, Off-Topicker TFO the 5th week and Writer TFO the 6th week. That means you are going to vote up to 2 of them per category and their respective teams are going to gain their TFO points like they were submissions of their respective round.

That... makes no sense. Sorry, but arbitrarily valuing TFOs from different roles with vastly different points totals makes the work done by the Artists (5 points for win) feel completely pointless compared to Writers(15 points for win). TFOs should DEFINITELY be valued equally across roles.

At face value I concur here with JCJ.  However, it is possible (however slightly) that the BM's have non-arbitrarily chosen the rounds/values of the Timed Face Off results.  In this case, I would request the supporting reasons to be given so that the nonsensical  feeling of the random can be put to bed.

(Or lacking such non random reasons then the clamor can be amplified to get it changed )

This ignores the fact that the earlier rounds are a piece of cake compared to the latter ones, while the level of difficulty of all TFOs was compatible with each other (which is the sane thing to do since all have the same 1 hour to be completed). From reading the rules I thought all TFOs would have the same value.

No, I am saying that Rounds get progressively more important / tense / harder / more going on as the competition goes on.
Roles on the other hand, are, always have been, and should always be all equal.

Difference there is that the Round 1 submissions were actually done and voted on at Round 1 timeframe.  The TFO's - not so much as they were done at varying times (but NOT within similar rounds) and voting will be done all at once at some time yet.
