The Artist role

So I have read and thought and the artist role for Brawl seems to be of some dispute. I would like to get some community feedback, especially from those interested in this role.

1) Should Artist exist, or is the distance between 12 different artists too far?
2)If it should not, how can it be replaced?
3) I have considered trying to make it more "fair" by having widely different mediums either as the standard for the round or for what is acceptable in any given rounds. How fair is this? I know little about art but I do know resources can be expensive

Other thoughts are welcome. Please post, and we look forward to bringing you the brawl soon!

Edit: As of now UTAlan and I have a working alternative to artist, should the consensus be replacement.

Since no one else seems to care, I'll add that if it does get replaced, it's not a huge loss. Art should be required for card design anyways. So unless you have people outside the event willing to do art for everyone, or allow/force cards to be submitted without art, you're stuck with it

I would lean towards Card Design being submitted without art, so the voting is more on the theme and mechanics than how pretty it looks. As of now, we are planning on keeping the Artist role, after all. We are going to do our best to make tasks that will not put our resident expert artists at a huge advantage over the other 9-10 teams.

I think that if the artist role involves only drawing pictures, then yes, the Artist role may need to be replaced; if there are other mediums (writing/poetry, music, video {not likely}, or even photography), then the playing field will probably be more even depending on what 'role' the artist can fill. Some members are hardcore artists and illustration gods who can design anything from scratch, so as long as the requirements aren't insane (i.e. - everyone needs to draw a banner using whatever tools they have at their disposal, go), then I personally believe the Artist Role can still 'fit in' somehow.

I agree with this. Also, I don't think the Artist role should be discarded/replaced without a couple of people willing to do art for all teams.

We've tried to create challenges that A) allow any visual medium (writing is a different role) and B) aren't purely based on talent.

We're happy to say that, so long as enough members sign up, the artist role will stay.
