Either is fine, as long as it is done before the deadline. If we receive more than one submission (in a given category) from the same team, the latest one we get (pre-deadline) is what we'll use.

No, in fact it's encouraged not to focus on your element to keep the voting as anonymous as possible. the elements are only to identify teams and have the bosses default to appropriate masters.
