Booster Draft
Organized by: majofa

Teams of 4 pick their cards from 72 different Booster Packs and fight in a double-elimination Swiss-style tourney.

1. HOW TO SIGN UP?
Anyone with a forum and a chat account can sign up for this event. Start by reading the rules very carefully. Then sign up by posting on a separate sign up topic. If you cannot find a sign up topic, or if it is locked, this event is not currently active, and you will have to wait for it to restart.

The maximum amount of participants for this event is 24.

2. GETTING READY
Forming Teams

The 6 players with the highest forum post count, will become Team Captains. If you do not want to be a Team Captain, you must mention this in your sign-up post, by saying something like: "I do not want to be a Team Captain". Organizers will then skip your name when choosing Team Captains, and you will participate as a regular team member.

Team Captains are given a list of 18 players (all the non-Team Captains), arranged alphabetically. Team Captains then list the players from most preferred to least preferred, and finally PM their list to the event organizer. The organizer will make the teams by first arranging the 6 lists in random order, then going through each list, one-by-one, picking the most preferred available player, until all players have been assigned to a team, and each team has a total of 4 players.

3. GAME PLAY
<<< BOOSTER PACKS >>>
All the cards in elements (excluding Pillars/Pendulums/Shards) are divided into 'Booster Packs' of 3 cards. There are 72 packs, so 216 cards, which includes 31 Relics.

Unupped Relics allow you to use 1 upgraded card per deck.
Upped Relics allow you to use 2 upgraded cards per deck.

The 72 packs are divided into groups of 12. Each group contains one 'Relic pack' which has 1 upped Relic and 2 unupped Relics.

Each team will start in a different group of 12 packs. Once teams have made their selections, they will all move onto the next group of 12 (now 11) packs. Just like normal drafting, you won't know what other teams selected until the end, and you won't be able to reliably plan ahead. (This will be done either through secret team sections or through PMs.)

After drafting is finished, card pools for each team will be revealed.

4. DECKBUILDING & MATCHES
After card drafting, teams will have up to 36 cards, depending on the amount of Relics they drafted.
For each match, each card may be only used in one deck (up to 6 copies).
Marks, Pillars and Pendulums (from any element) are free to use without any limitations.

Matches are best-of-5.

Players from the same team won't be matched up until it is absolutely necessary. If they do get matched up, the rules are slightly different.
Spoiler for same team match:
Each game must use cards from a different team. There are 5 other teams, so one-per-game. You use the amount of Relics equal to the team you selected for each game.

It's a good idea to either record the matches, or take screenshots as proof, in case something weird, like a desync error, happens. Remember, a player who gets caught cheating, will be permanently banned from all Elements community PvP events, so please play fair.
If a desync does occur, take a screenshot before the disconnect and, if possible, every turn thereafter. If the organizer determines one player had a clear victory - even if both players defeated the AI - a win may be granted.

5. AFTER DUELS
All players must submit their results and decks in the Round Thread.

6. WINNER
The final player remaining is declared the victor.
The winner is also automatically qualified for the PvP World Championships - 2013.

7. REWARDS
Glory and the following forum award icon:

So the Relic packs will not be labeled?
You see get to see the cards in each pack for the group of packs your team is selecting from.

To make sure I understand: 'Relics' does not just include the card Relic, correct? Otherwise, sounds fun! :)

A sample pack looks like this (obviously shards and pillars won't be in packs):

You gain access to the Shard of Divinity and Amethyst Pillar cards and can use up to 6 of them in one deck.
The Relic allows you to upgrade one card in each deck.

Pre-dueling thoughts:

The combination of not knowing who drafts what, what are in the full packs, who started off with what, and only being able to use each card once in each match serves as a weird combination of both devaluing and overvaluing individual cards. Only knowing what you pick and the general contents of the first few packs you see makes the individual sets of cards you pick matter more, while when you go to duel the individual cards matter less as you can only use them once each.

On the larger part of the lack of knowledge: Ultimately, I dislike the change as it's more interesting IMO to be able to play with some knowledge than playing in the dark. Knowing the entirety of every pack before we start, or knowing who started with what pack, or learning what people picked some rounds after they picked it, I wish there was more information to pick at.

On the 1 use per match: I generally like the format of being more restricted as you play matches (like in WC), but I feel with cards, especially drafted sets of cards, that it doesn't work as well. This is before playing, even before fully drafting, so this could be pretty much wrong. In terms of limiting card use, I'd like to see more complex rules regarding it. Possibly depending on how many you use of it affecting if you can use it again, or when you play it (if you play it first game, you can use a reduced number in game 5 if you wish or something).

You're just as selfish as I am. You're just not as good at it yet.

Still, I bet from majofa's point of view we all look like idiots, not taking a pack w/ Crusader then getting passed Stiletto or something.
I ask nothing of humanity but fairness in all things, but I do not expect even that.

I would think that everyone would know the available cards in booster packs in actual card CCGs, or even in online ones with booster packs.

And personally, knowing what other teams have taken would be more fun for me than the current lack of information.

Rulequestion:
I dont see the "you can change decks between games" rule. So we only have to look for our deck and the 3 our opponents use, we are not using the same drafted cards?!
Or will we be able to change our decks between games?

If we are able to change decks between games:
In rules it says: For each match, each card may be only used in one deck (up to 6 copies).
Question: Match = 5 Games, so we can use the same deck 5 times?!

You HAVE to change your deck each match. Drafted cards can only be used once per match.
