So, I'm a huge comic book nerd. I've read a ton of stuff, but I'm always looking for more recommendations. So if anyone has some of their favorite books they want to throw out at me, I'd love to hear what they are.

Tough to make recommendations without knowing what you like ;)  but.....

If you like Superman: try Kingdom Come
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_Come_(comics)

If you want to try something a little different: try We3
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We3

If you let us know what you have been enjoying reading, then we can throw out some more advice tailored to you :)

It is too late to apologise.  I have already forgiven you.

Kingdom Come is fantastic. I haven't read We3 yet, but I do really like Grant Morrison's stuff. (His Batman run has been pretty epic.) I didn't put down what I like because I like to try just about everything. I read a lot of superhero stuff, but I like a lot of Vertigo books, and have really enjoyed a few indie books as well. Let's see, some of my favorite books of all-time, off the top of my head, in no particular order: Sandman, Y: The Last Man, Fables, Starman, League of Extraordinary Gentleman, Swamp Thing (Moore's run, haven't read anything else other than Snyder's current run), speaking of Snyder - his current Detective Comics/Batman run is great, Whedon's Astonishing X-Men (despite it's chronic lateness), speaking of chronic lateness: Planetary, umm... Geoff Johns' Green Lantern run is another current favorite (although the quality has dipped a bit recently - everything leading up to Sinestro Corps War was phenomenal), Miller/Bendis/Brubaker/Waid Daredevil, Brubaker's Captain America, Simonson's Thor, Remender's Uncanny X-Force might be my favorite ongoing right now. And I just cracked open the X-Statix Omnibus last night - I'm not really sure what to expect from it yet, but it's interesting so far.

Ahhh, okay!  So you are reading a bunch of stuff  :D

You picked out my favourite 3 current comics:

Daredevil:  Waid's take on Daredevil is everything is I want from the character.  Years of doom and gloom are being washed away happily!
Batman:  Snyder is doing great things here since the DC reboot.  Man, this is a good story!
Uncanny X-force:  Remender's run on X-force has been one of the most consistently high quality books out there.  I am a bit worried with Opena' leaving the art side of things but I have faith that Remender is going to be keeping the story buzzing along.

Other super-hero stuff I am reading at the moment:

Justice League:  Geoff Johns' story is sloooowww, so sloooooow but Lee's art is beautiful.
Aquaman: Johns again but this has been a really fun take on a hero who is so often the brunt of all the jokes.
Avenging Spider-man:  Jason Aaron is another young writer putting out awesome books all over the place.  This is fun:  Spidey with guest stars in short story arcs.
Incredible Hulk:  Aaron's Hulk has split him from Bruce Banner - very cool.

I tend to check out books with writers that I enjoy.  Right now:  Scott Snyder, Jason Aaron, Remender and Waid are writing my favourite stuff.

Some other different stuff that you might want to check out:

Preacher:  A lot of people put this down when asked for their favourites of all time.  I didn't because the storyline is hectic and likely to deeply offend religious people.  It is brilliant but irreverent.
Chew:  Chew is ongoing and probably getting better as it does!  Odd stories about a man with a super sense of taste who helps fight crime.  Extremely violent in places but done with purpose.
It is too late to apologise.  I have already forgiven you.

The only one of those I'm NOT reading right now is Avenging Spider-Man. I didn't realize Aaron was writing it, so I may have to check that out. I'm really liking Aquaman, Justice League has its moments, but yeah, it's slow... And I'm not sure how to feel about just how crazy Bruce Banner's gotten. I have all of Preacher in hardcover... slipped my mind earlier. And I've read the first two trades of Chew, they were alright - nothing really mind blowing to me, but I may go back and get the next two or three or however many is out right now.

Snyder, Aaron, Remender, and Waid are also at the top of my list of current writers. I just got done reading Aaron's Wolverine Omnibus which was pretty badass, and shortly before that I read his Ghost Rider Omnibus, which was... less badass, but okay. I'm liking his Wolverine & the X-Men stuff so far even though I generally like the whole Schism/split team aspect of it.

But here's the big question before I can totally trust your judgement... What's your opinion of Matt Fraction?

Heh, I had no idea that this was a test ;-)

I don't know Fraction very well at all but I really did not enjoy Fear Itself.  He was involved in writing that, wasn't he?  Confusing and ill-conceived at best.

Yeah, he wrote the whole thing. I can't stand him. I don't know what his appeal is supposed to be. Every time I read something he's written, it just feels like he wrote while self-satisfyingly muttering to himself, "Good God, I am brilliant... This is going to change the goddamn world! People will literally change the way they live their lives after reading this..."

So, yeah... Not a fan. He's really the only writer I actively and vehemently hate... But it's a strong hate.

Oh man. You must read We3! :) I second Bootza's recommendation. I also recommend it to anyone (on the mature side preferably) who want to read a good comic. It's very deep, home hitting, and different than many other comics. (random note: I had to write a paper on it) After reading through it few times, it became one of my favorite comics of all time ;D

Not the 'classic superhero' setup, but a Classic anyway: Neil Gaiman's The Sandman. Really worth the read.

- Going to look into We3, looks great for first sight; thanks!
