Welcome to Battle!
Battle is a forum mod that allows your forum profile to gain rpg-style stats like atk, def, hp, etc. You must have at least 30 forum posts to participate. Learn how to play below!
The Basic Stats:
Health (HP) - Pretty standard stuff. When you fight you take damage. if your health ever drops to 0 you are dead, and will need to either be resurrected by a friend through the button in the graveyard, or buy a healing item from the shop. There is no cap for how high you can raise your max hp through leveling.
Attack (Atk) - Whenever you fight a monster or another player, you deal damage to them based off your attack score, reduced by their defense score. Max attack caps at 100.
Defense (Def) - Whenever you take damage from a monster or player, that damage is reduced by your defense stat, to a minimum of 0-5 damage. Max Defense caps at 100.
Stamina (Sta) - This determines how long you can explore and fight before you tire out and have to wait. Every time you click the explore map, fight a monster, or attack another player, your stamina goes down by one. If you run out, you can wait 8 hours and it will regenerate. Max Stamina caps at 25.
Energy (En) - Similar to Stamina, Energy determines how many quests you can attempt. Each quest will cost a certain amount of energy, and once you are out you will generally need to wait 8 hours for your energy points to return. Max energy caps at 25.
Gold (G) - Gold allows you to buy items from the Shop. You can heal your HP to keep fighting, or increase your stats (note that you must first increase you max stats by leveling up, before you can benefit from stat boosting items). You can earn some gold from explore events, and even more from quests if you're lucky. You also earn 50 gold every 8 hours.
Exploring:
In the explore section, you will find a map. Clicking on the map will cost you 1 stamina and cause you to randomly encounter either a monster or event.
Monsters - can only be encountered if you are relatively close to them in level. If you fight them, you will gain experience points if you do more damage to them than they do to you. You will also gain bonus xp if you do enough damage to actually kill the monster. After level 20, all monsters become encounterable. A special monster called The Great Chimera will sometimes show up. This monster is very powerful and annoying, and if someone eventually kills it they will receive a forum award for ridding the game of this menace.
Explore Events - Events each have a couple possible outcomes (some good some bad) usually giving gold but sometimes affecting other stats. Some events have a cost in order for you to try them, while others are free.
Quests:
There are 11 different quests (from level 0 to level 10). Each quest costs a certain amount of energy, has a certain chance of success, and gives a reward of gold for completion. The more it costs and the harder it is to succeed, the bigger the rewards. Higher level quests are on average more profitable than lower level ones.
Leveling Up:
Each time you do more damage to a monster or player than they do to you, you receive Experience. The amount of experience varies based on your level and your opponent.
Dealing the killing blow gives you a +3 xp bonus.
If you win vs a monster you receive (monster level - your level +1d3 +3)xp, limited to a number between 1 and 5.
If you win vs a player you receive (other player's level - your level +1)xp, limited to a number between 0 and 5.
For every 30 xp you earn, you gain a level. Go to the Home section and click the level up button there when you're ready. You'll receive 5 new stat points, which you can spend in the Upgrade section. Upgrading your stats just improves the maximum for that stat though. You'll still need to increase the actual stat, either by waiting for them to regenerate (for hp, stamina or energy) or by buying the appropriate stat increasing item in the shop.
PvP:
You may attack other players, either by heading to the "Battle" section under navigation, or by clicking the "attack member" button on someone's profile. Battling other players is like attacking monsters. It costs 1 stamina per attack, and you receive xp based on how high their level is compared to yours. You can only attack players who are within 10 levels or you. 0 level characters cannot be attacked at all. Fighting each other is one of the more amusing activities within battle, but please refrain from excessive griefing of players who don't wish to be attacked. Keep things fun.
FAQ:
Q: Does where I click on the map matter?
A: Nope. It's just a big pretty button.
