I played SoB while playing an opponent when we both had one card left in our decks. The card states that the opponent draws first and than I draw after, yet I lost the game by running out of cards and decking out.

Most likely because it was still your turn. If you would have had a card left and the AI not then he would have lost when it was his turn. I'm guessing that this is intended and not a bug.
