Title: POLL : What card from the Armory would you like to see in the Game? (On Hiatus)
Post by: ZephyrPhantom on May 08, 2011, 04:23:29 am
On Hiatus.

So, I've come onto chat and asked it once or twice, and the resulting discussions have left me interested : what cards from the Armory (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/board,128.0.html) do you want to see in the game?

Feel free to discuss why you think the cards you voted for should be put in the game, possible decks, spinoff ideas, etc...  I think we should be able to gather an opinion on what cards are wanted the most so that Zanz can decide which cards to implement based on the community's opinion.

The poll will rotate from the three sections in weeks, from Creatures to Permanents to Spells, and then back to creatures again. Winners of the poll will be put in this OP. From time to time I may also change the subject to something like cards of a certain element/cost/concept to add variety.

Current Subject : Permanents (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,25825.0.html)

Overview
A dark flash in the sky, followed by a screech, the Harpy  (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,17918.0.html) is a card made to synergize with the manipulative Card Nightmare. It originally started out as Ghoul but was changed to Harpy with new art both courtesy of vrt.

General Use
  • Harpy gains X attack equal to the number of cards in your opponents hand.
  • Harpy is Airborne.

They just can't get you out of their head, and
the more they think about you the less they
can think about anything else...

Nightmare fills the enemy's hand full of cards, as well as providing a drain effect that cannot be countered by a shield. This makes a for powerful lockdown effect that can be accomplishsed by a Mono-Darkness by continously Nightmaring a Harpy or other high-cost creature to keep their attack at 8 (The full hand size), which is double the attack one could normally get from a 4 :cost creature.

It's better to keep one's mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth...and remove all doubt.

Silence prevents the enemy from playing any cards, which preserves your Harpies's high attack gained from Nightmare. In addition with a card like Ghost of the Past, you could cause a lot of damage in a small amount of time.

Take your time today. In fact, take someone else's time, too.  They won't miss it.

Rewind allows you to lock the enemy's draw, which in combination with denial like Pest, Discord, and Silence can prevent opponent from emptying their hand.

Other Cards With Synergy
  • Discord (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,2028.0.html) - Early denial that can prevent cards from being played early on - rush with Harpies to deal damage in this early game period!
  • Pest (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,2188.0.html) - Can be run in mono-:darkness and adds to the effectiveness of Harpy by draining your opponent's quantum to strenghten your own... for more Nightmares and Harpies.

So thanks for voting and viewing this card idea! With some luck, we may be seeing Harpies in the skies someday.

Overview
A chill seeps into the opponent as his weapon is frozen by the coldness of Winter (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,17926.0.html). As a card, it offers Water another source of PC as well as giving it another weapon that it can use in different decks.

General Use
  • Winter deals 5 damage each turns as a weapon. When Animated, it's stats become 5 | 4.
  • Winter has a 50% chance to freeze it's opponent's weapon instead of attacking. Freezing does not stack.
  • The enemy weapon is frozen by the ability, not weapon slot, so the freeze can be removed by playing a new weapon or destroying the weapon.

Synergies

Something unexpected might happen, and it will happen fast.

Shockwave instantly destroys the opponent's weapon when it targets the opponent, which makes a very good synergy between :air and :water as you can permanently get rid of the weapon that otherwise would have to be refrozen. With Winter freezing the enemy weapon continuously,  this means you do not have to use repeated Ice Bolts either, allowing for a much more efficient combo in :water bolt decks.

Draw your blade -- or someone else's blade, for that matter -- and step boldly into the fray.

Crusader allows you to completely lockdown the opponent's weapon by having repeated "freeze strikes" everytime it defrosts - and you can endow the frozen weapon as well to reap it's benefits.

Your caution will be rewarded when your biggest annoyances are held at bay for a time.

Even if you're holding down your opponent's weapon, you still have to deal with creatures. Permafrost Shield can freeze the creatures that you're having problems with, while you play cards like Ice Dragon to increase your damage output and Shockwave to shatter all the frozen enemies.

Other Cards With Synergy
  • Protect Artifact (http://elementscommunity.org/wiki/cards-earth/enchant-artifact-protect-artifact/) - It may seem like an odd choice, but a card that has a powerful denial skill like this will probably be the target of control cards like Deflagration (http://elementscommunity.org/wiki/cards-fire/deflagration-explosion/) and Steal (http://elementscommunity.org/wiki/cards-darkness/steal-improved-steal/). With Protect Artifact, you can make sure your Winter has a better chance to do it's job.

So thanks for voting and viewing this card idea! Who knows - maybe you'll use Winter someday to kill an Eternity stall.

Overview
Ever wondered how interesting it would be to have two shields in play at once, but can't try it because of how the game works? Dual Shield (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,9282.0.htmll) by $$$man expands upon this idea by turning your weapon slot into a shield slot.

General Use
  • It's a spell that drains all :earth quantum when used, similar to Fractal, Sky Blitz, and Miracle.
  • Your weapon slot is converted into a shield slot, so you cannot play weapons.  However, on the flipside, you may now have 2 shields out at once.
  • With shield effects, the shield on your left (your original shield slot) triggers it's effects first.

If you're not careful, you'll end up missing something that's coming straight at you!

Fog Shield is a cheap but very effective shield in the game, and is well-known for it's "haxx"-like luck in blocking entire waves of attacks with just a 40% chance to successfully block an attack. When stacked with most shields, it's very helpful as it can prevent entire attacks rather than just triggering a denial effect or less damage when creatures damage you.

Today is a day for taking what you want, but not by force.  Trick - then treat!

Have an extra shield slot, but no shield to use it with? With Steal, not only can you retain the denial power of the shield you already have in play, but add on your opponent's shield to your defense.

Offense really is the best defense this time around.

Fire Shield is well known for being an effective CC shield, killing off creatures rather than guarding yourself. However, this shield also benefits if another shield is played - attacking creatures always trigger your original (left) shield first, so with some careful ordering you can kill creatures off while shrugging off damage at the same time - or you could stack another Fire Shield, Thorn Carapace (http://elementscommunity.org/wiki/cards-life/thorn-carapace-spine-carapace/), or Skull Buckler (http://elementscommunity.org/wiki/cards-death/skull-shield-skull-buckler/) to make a wall of death.

Other Cards With Synergy
  • Nova (http://elementscommunity.org/wiki/cards-entropy/nova-supernova/) - A good way to get a cheap source of quantum for other elemental shields to play.
  • Tower Shield (http://elementscommunity.org/wiki/cards-other/shield-tower-shield/) - A nice and rapid source of defense - two Tower Shields will net you a total of 4 damage reduced each hit, with it's playing cost easily paid by the aforementioned Nova or Quantum Pillars.
  • Generally, a combination of two shields that work well together (For example, use Skull Shield with a Solar Buckler (http://elementscommunity.org/wiki/cards-light/solar-shield-solar-buckler/) - the Skeletons created will do zero damage even if they are upgraded, and at the same time fuel the Solar Shield's :light generation.) Be creative!
So thanks for voting and viewing this card idea!I wonder how fun it would be to put 2 Dusk Mantles together... *evil laugh*

Overview
Made by the former Master of Water, Essence, the Neriad (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,13290.0.html) is an interesting twist on the Scorpion mechanic in that it heals instead of hurts over time (Interestingly, this mechanic was also suggested seperately as a new :water Scorpion)

General Use
  • Similar to a Scorpion, each turn Neriad successfully damages the opponent, you gain a Purify counter.
  • When given Adrenaline, the ability only activates ever other attack (again similar to a Scorpion).

Synergies

Activity is the name of the game.  Keep moving, far past your supposed limits, and success will come.

Adrenaline (Alternatively known as Epinephrine) works especially well with this card, since it has a higher attack than a Scorpion, which allows for more damage overall and the greater potential to bypass shields. The unupgraded version of Neriad can become a powerful force especially with Momentum (http://elementscommunity.org/wiki/cards-gravity/momentum-unstoppable/).

Your caution will be rewarded when your biggest annoyances are held at bay for a time.

You might have a continuous source of healing with your Neriads, but what about all those creatures on the opponent's field? Permafrost Shield comes in handy here - it's freeze power is one of the most effective CC's in the game, as well as being in the same element as Neriad.

It's like looking at yourself looking at yourself look at yourself...only without a mirror.

With Fractal and a sufficient amount of Water quantum, you can easily build an army of Neriads that have the potential to quickly boost your healing and prevent you from being easily taken down - imagine yourself with 100 Purify counters. ;)

Other Cards With Synergy
  • Sanctuary (http://elementscommunity.org/wiki/cards-light/sanctuary-sanctuary/) and Shard of Gratitude (http://elementscommunity.org/wiki/cards-other/shard-shard-of-gratitude/) - Backup healing while Neriad's early healing isn't much is a good way to back yourself up in a stall deck.
  • Stone Skin (http://elementscommunity.org/wiki/cards-earth/stone-skin-granite-skin/) and Shard of Divinty (http://elementscommunity.org/wiki/cards-other/shard-shard-of-divinity/) - Can raise you Max HP, which can give the Purify counters much more use, since both cards are usually played when you're taking damage.

So thanks for voting and viewing this card idea! May the Neriads bless your with safe seas and powerful healing - if you can keep them on the field long enough.

Brought to you in part by the Blademaster's Journal.

Graviton Inferno. If not for the fact that I made it, but for the fact that it adds amazing new concepts to the game! It has insane synergy with other cards, without being especially gamebreaking!

It is a shield that actually has an active skill that must be activated using quanta! What could be greater?

It's a shield that follows the ideals of Gravity, in that as this shield grows, it becomes stronger. It takes time, however, but as you begin moving, you slowly get more and more power to your overall set-up.

It's not possible to create a perfect deck from this card or any combos with this card.

It promotes the use of trios, which will boost the meta-game.

It's quite similar to Graviton Fire Eater, in that it grows using fire (and a creature).

It's innovative.

Vote Graviton Inferno now!

So many of these I would never want to see in the game.
How they got in the armory will always confuse me.

The only ones that IMO are worth being there are Harmonic Pillar, Commission/ Crusade, Magnet, and Eldreich Mirror, and I could see them all making their contribution in the game. Even then though...

If those cards were able to get into Armory at all, it means they are not completely without merit. I don't think you should say all these cards are horrible except the ones you like.

One, I voted for Luminiferous Aether, since it's my own card. Of course I want to see it in the game, otherwise I wouldn't have suggested it. Two, I voted for Fear Shield. I would like my favorite element to have an alternative shield. If more votes were available, I would have voted for Graviton Inferno also.

I'm voting for Winter and the Quantum Pendulum.

Winter would be OP, if njot for the fact that it INSTEAD freezes the opponent's weapon, and therefore should not cause damage that turn.

Quantum Pendulum completes the Pendulum series and makes for an interesting synergy with trios/quartets/rainbows that are more focused in a single element.

So thanks for voting and viewing this card idea! Who knows - maybe you'll use Winter someday to kill an Eternity stall.

Actually Zblader, SG was 'technically' the one who made the Original Featured Cards format (I just began writing the articles once she saw that old ones seemed to bulky and had the 'wall-of-text' effect without the separated categories). So you should really give the credit to SG. Just saying. ^^;

That said, this topic is going much better than I expected. :) I'll try not to be too biased when voting (assuming I can make up my mind). ^^;

Rectify seemed one of the best choices IMHO, since many times have I wished that I had that one last card that my opponent Fire Lanced last turn to win the match.

Dragon Power also seemed original. Just 'cause I haven't really thought of dragons having abilities. You know, dragons in mythology are these big flying lizards that eat people and don't, you know, teleport or something clever like that. They just never seem to do.

I was working on it, I was busy with other things so I was held down a bit.

There have been two cards that won the poll - Slow and Dual Shield, so I used the RNG to determine the winner, who is shown below.

(http://imageplay.net/img/m7Gbd72995/sHIELD_UN.png)(http://imageplay.net/img/m7Gbd72994/Shield_up.png) (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,9282.0.html)

So thanks for voting and viewing this card idea!I wonder how fun it would be to put 2 Dusk Mantles together... *evil laugh*

It takes a good chunk of time/energy for me to do one, and I'm worried if I have to write multiple card reviews in one post it will begin to look like a wall of text that may discourage people from reading.

using a rng to pick a 'winner' kinda wipes out the people who voted for the other card.  and being honest, i would probably have made the same point had the other card on the short end of the stick

Ugh...
I probably should've started a tiebreaker poll in that case, but I was stressed and acted a little more hastily than I normally would. Next time around I'll use a short tiebreaker poll to determine the winner.

Should I still try to write an article for Slow | Stop? I'm not sure if I'm in the condition to do it, but I can try...

if its a big chunk of time/effort, dont worry about it, it would just be nice to be noted as an equal winner sans writeup moreso than an honorable mention (usually the title for the one that didn't actually have a share of the win).  just putting the image/link to thread at the bottom of the post would be pleasing

So thanks for voting and viewing this card idea! May the Neriads bless your with safe seas and powerful healing - if you can keep them on the field long enough.

After a little bit of discussion between the Curators and other staff members, these polls will be shifted to the corresponding stickies in the Armory section; this topic will remain unlocked for a little while longer, but until then, please vote in the respective sticky polls on what cards you'd definitely would like to see in the game (the most popular cards may not be advanced, but they will give the developers some perspective on what the community wants in terms of card ideas).
