You could hold the vultures in your hand if you needed to; the air spells are cast during your turn. 1.2.6 brings a buff to the grey nymph, which would aid in alfatoxin board control.
That isn't the issue. Any smart player will CC the cell as soon as it hits the board, as well as any grey nymphs you put out. If they play anything that has >1 HP then that's 1 less deathtrigger for you- and it takes several turns for one cell to fill up the board. Frankly, it's easier and more reliable to simply stall until you have 5-6 gases, play them all, then blow them up the next turn. Much simpler than a 5+ card combo reliant on the order you draw the cards (afla/nymph, shield, vulture, possible fractal, storm, blitz) Instead of saying "this combo/card/deck is OP*," try it out (if it involves new cards, use the trainer) first.
