Fellow denizens of the outer realms. Citizens of the great void! Even you freaks from the forgotten dimension. I need your opinion on an educational topic, namely: ...yeah, it's there in the thread title.
Aether is an extremely popular element in concept. Perhaps the most popular one of all. For all the Aether beginners out there, you should give your educated (or otherwise) opinion on this. It's part of the cultural development of Aether connoisseurs!
Now, we all know Aether combines well with almost anything thanks to its adaptive cards, but there are some that have even more synergy. What are your favourites?
Some examples!
:aether + :time = Best. Stall. Ever. The ability to defend yourself and multiply power comes from Aether and the ability to put a stop to the enemy's draws comes from Time. Combined with the option to go through your own cards at amazing speeds, this makes for an impenetrable stall. Just look at decks like Eternal Concordance (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,4148.12.html). Great win percentage, though naturally slow.
:aether + :darkness = Aaahh.. Pestal (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,6020.0.html). Fractal Devourers/Pests is something anyone without Immolation, Nova or Quantum Pillars may fear. It's a truly amazing deck for mono/duo/trio matchups, and I've kicked so much ass with it in the past. Steal goes great with any perm-heavy Aether deck as well, and Darkness just complements Aether perfectly. Not to mention there's a great thematic match between the element of void dimensions and darkness. Don't forget, the Vamptal part is half of Devtal's power, and Vamptal alone with CC is indeed a good rushbreaker.
:aether + :fire = Fractix (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,13526.0.html), anyone? DragonPowa (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,17091.0.html)? Brimstone Thunder (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,21285.0.html#post_aether)? Fire burns away impurity to leave room for the divine energies to rule. Aether enhances power, and doing that to Fire is a scary thought. Immolate some Sparks and summon Phoenixes by the campfire if all that Darkness has you a bit cold. Add some Lightning and few can stand against you. ^_^
:aether + :gravity = Chargetal (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,4636)! Yes, this duo gives the term "unstoppable" a whole new meaning. Between tons of giant mechas being flung by Trebuchets, flying Titans smashing everything into a pulp, and armies of Elite Chargers, there's just no way to escape this duo. Heck, you can even throw in some Fire in there without problem.
:aether + :death = Poison Stall (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,19105.0.html) and many versions of Poisonous Lightning (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,13229.0.html) (the MVD of Team Aether in War 3) are amazing rush-stoppers and can even be modified to break stalls (thanks to Fractal, Aether is the only element that can do this). Or with the dawn of new ways to gain quanta, how about that DoSA (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,17967.0.html)? Death is another way to capitalise on the inevitability of Aether, and fits perfectly with the fact that Aether is the beginning and end to everything.
:aether + :air = Blitztal (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,21285.msg290616#msg290616)! Fractal Elite Fireflies with Unstable Gasses! Aether was the upper sky in the Greek mythos. It feels natural these elements would share the feeling of freedom and strife for ascension.
:aether + :light = RoL/Hope (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,14312.0.html)! Sancstall is a fearsome stall as well, which can pack Sanctuaries, Miracles, Dimensional Shields and Lightnings too if it so wishes. Not to mention 1 Dragon + 1 Fractal providing amazing stallbreaking power in just 2 cards. Aether was what the Gods lived and breathed, as mortals breathe air. Divinity, purity and piousness is what these elements share.
Alright, that's enough of that. Don't want to do your work for you, do I? Y'all get 6 votes, because while I know Aether combines with a lot, I have to set some kind of limit. That's half of the elements, after all. Show me now what you do with the power of Aether, and don't forget to consider trios and all that other good stuff too! :>
-
Okay since I was the first vote for :life...
Frogtal is a ton of fun to play. Throw some Dimensional Shields into the mix and watch the opponent start to cry as they get pounded by little creatures.
Heck, Life works great with any kind of Dimensional Shield stall. Take my Trials HB deck for example, Phase Scorpions. (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,19053.msg259330#msg259330)
Pure stalling with Heals works awesome too.
Works great in trios too. Quinted Forest Spectres are a beautiful sight to behold. And then you can even get a quartet going with Momentum'd Quinted Animated Adrenastaves, talk about fun! There's always Quinted Firefly Queens, which is seldom seen but powerful all the same.
Otherwise I voted :fire, :darkness, :gravity, and :light, mainly for the reasons stated above.
-
I voted for :light and :darkness, mostly because of Pestal and RoL/Hope. I agree fractal opens up alot of opportunities but I find these two the best combinations.
Most has been said already so I'll leave it at that.
Also, great topic, well done.
-
:aether and :entropy would be my first choice as best combination currently.
-
:aether and :entropy would be my first choice as best combination currently.
Interesting choice, could you tell us why please?
-
Wow, so many game winning combinations. Off the top of my head:
Quint + elf
Fractal + Nova
Mindgate + Nova
Antimatter + Twin universe
Phase shield + Discord (PVP)
-
As I've said before, Aether is the element of duality, so it goes great with any of the other elements :D
:aether + :air = a ridiculous amount of stalling as well. Wings and Dim Shield give a total of up to 48 turns of protection from physical damage sources, and you also have Lobotomizer and Phase Recluse to make sure that things can't get past your shields. Phase Dragons, TU'ed Sky Dragons, or TU'ed Wyrms can be a suitable finisher.
:aether + :earth = A denial-based combo in Earthquake and Silence, plus Fractal Gemfinders with Stone Skin stall or supplemented by Diamond Shield and Fractalled Basalt Dragon / Shrieker makes for an interesting variation on the classic RoL/Hope strategy.
:aether + :entropy = Harmony between the unchanging and the chaotic. Unupped Pandemonium is amazing when paired with Aether's immortal creatures and Quintessence, and if you're playing in an environment without permanent control, it's possible to hide behind Phase Shields and Lobo threats away, and then Pandemonium spam in hopes of a few lucky TUs when you can't keep chaining shields.
:aether + :water = What happens when two of the best stalling elements get together? Even more stall goodness. The two elements have so much creature control between them, and a variety of finishers at their disposal. Fractal Crawlers / Toadfish, or TU Arctic Dragons? The options are endless.
-
Voted for Darkness (obviously), Fire and Gravity.
No it's not just Pestal, Fractix and Fractachargers :)) Aether is also brilliant for TU-ing buffed Vampires, Aether helps protects Fire's fragile creatures and Gravity works well because there's nothing like an immortal AND unstoppable army.
-
Vote for :aether + :water, because nothing beats fractal Flayers, obviously. :L
-
You might find it easier to say what doesn't aether combine well with, but if I have to narrow it down to my favorites....
:fire :darkness :earth :water :death
A few notes:
If Fractal was built for 1 card, it would either be....
:fire Minor Phoenix. Cheap and renewable, combining with Fractal puts this card in the "uber" realm.
-or-
:darkness Pest. Pestal can be such a complete lockdown, it's silly. Steal the odd permanent or extra pillar and you've won faster than you can say "checkmate!" It served Team Aether well in War 2 and took down some fearsome decks in the process.
:darkness And don't forget about TU + Voodoo Dolls....this combo is responsible for some of the greatest reversals of fortune in a match.
:earth PA is a great combo card for phase shields. Slap on your Electrocutor to eliminate momentum and you're golden. To be extra evil, add a few EQs slow the opponent down to aether speed and you ride your phase dragons to victory.
:water A quinted mindflayer is a beautiful thing. Fractalled flayers are even more beautiful-er. Fractalled abyss crawlers anyone? Plus 2 of the greatest shields in all of Elements. So much to love here.
:death Poison stall can be absolutely brutal. Flying arsenic + TU/TU/TU.... Fractalled recluses.
-
Hardly anyone is mentioning earth....I like protecting my permanents, and earthquake adds to the effectiveness of blocking.
EDIT: Someone beat me :)
-
Ahh.. no one thinks of TU'd Wyrms. I'll keep that for myself I guess. ^_^
-
Ahh.. no one thinks of TU'd Wyrms. I'll keep that for myself I guess. ^_^
Hyro a deck I prepared for final battle, in Aether trials *Never got to use it though*
Why use TU, when Air works so beautifully well with Fractal.
7mt 7mt 7mt 7mt 7mt 7mu 7mu 7mu 7mu 7mu 7n7 7n7 7n7 80i 80i 80i 80i 80k 80k 80k 81q 81q 81q 81q 81q 81q 81q 81q 81q 81q
So first vote is for Air :air 77a 77a 77a 77a 77a 77e 77e 77e 77e 77e 809 809 809 80i 80i 80i 80i 80k 80k 80k 81q 81q 81q 81q 81q 81q 81q 81q 81q 81q
Second Vote for Earth :earthAnother Final Battle deck that never got used, Spectre are one of my all time favorite creatures *Probably only person who likes using them*
7dh 7dh 7dh 7dh 7dh 7dj 7dj 7dj 7dj 7dj 80b 80b 80b 80i 80i 80i 80i 80k 80k 80k 81q 81q 81q 81q 81q 81q 81q 81q 81q 81q
Third Vote for Fire :fireLife is full of surprises, why not control those surprises for a better outcome, and possibly a win.
6u2 6u2 6u2 6u2 6u2 6u2 6u3 6u3 6u3 6u3 6u3 6u4 6u4 6u4 6u4 6u4 6u4 6ve 6ve 6ve 6ve 6ve 6ve 809 809 809 809 809 809 80b 80b 80b 80b 80b 80b
Fourth Vote for Entropy :entropy
My Final two votes change constantly, and do not want to bore this thread with more deck examples.
-
I like to use ONLY Aether. What enemys element is my element too!
-
I use Earth, but Fire works best. (Fractal Phoenix and Parallel Dragonz)
-
fire (fractal the minor phoenix) and dark (devourer and vampire) both nice ;D
-
i think :air is the best along with :darkness and :light also :water reasons listed
with :air amazing stall with dims and wingsalong with phase recluses and immortals towittle down ur oppenent whilejust chaining togther wings and dims.
:darkness reasons stated originally by higs
:light rol/hope MOFO's
:water itsless obvious but with freezes mindflayer lightnigs and then immortal creatures thats a hella lotof success right there add in fractal abyss crawlers= somuch win
-
i chose :aether , :time for my first one because of reverse mindgate, this combo= pure pwnage
-
i have no idea...
and by the way, what does TU mean?
-
TU stands for Twin Universe, the upgraded version of Parralel Universe.
-
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Fractal+Scarabs; I find this to be an amazing CC combo
-
My Deck is Fractal/scarabs and has anyone noticed that when you dive and then tu a creature, the dived stats are there, but it turns into the stats of the original creature anfter you use dive. I once got and 88 damage wyrm from that.
-
Indeed. TU used to make that change permanent, but it was unfortunately fixed. It was one of the funniest behaviours in the game x)
-

Was this fixed recently? I seem to remember a Pandemonium TUing a large HP scarab not long ago for me and it never dropped down to 1hp.

Scarabs don't dive.
-
The stats will still be permanent, for dive with pegasus and wyrm, as long as you dont dive. When you dive, tu it to make sure the newest stats stay there. Thats all.
-
:aether+ :entropy
is a real good duo
with your immaterials u just can spam pandemonium etc
good control imo
-
fractal + devourer ftw. darkness and aether all the way
-
Fractal scarabs all the way across the GROUND
-
I think most elements work well with aeither mostly becuse of the fractal spam atribute aeither!
-
I think most elements work well with aeither mostly becuse of the fractal spam atribute aeither!
You can also just stick 6 dim shields and enough pillars to power them to some decks without much modification.
-

exactly aether is very compatible with every element.
-
Fire and Time work best against level 4 and sometimes even false gods.
-
Whole world is a good aether-earth deck. But, aether is good with anything. Fractal small critters, PU large buffed critters. Aether is OP :)
-
:aether :light
Aether and Light makes RoL/Hope, one of the best deck for me when it comes to farm Fake Gods. RoL + Fractal + Hope = Spam spam spam, protection. -laughs happily- Of course, it is important to have good strategy with playing it. But...the strategy is needed with every deck, isn't it? ;)
:aether :darkness
Fractal/Pest: One of my favourite decks. Tricky one. Stealing your opponent quanta and converts it to the one you need. Yummy :D~! Add some vampires and win the fight when your opponent started couting chickens before they hatched. Show him that you always play to the end. Beware the hidden power of Fractal/Pest ;)!
-
A deck that works well is a :aether :darkness and a :aether :life in my opinion.
The :aether :darkness has been explained whereas :aether :life ...well, few things are as satisfying as TU'ing an adrenalined Druidic/Jade staff and then using quintessence/having a nymph use immortality on it. :aether :light because of the RoL/Hope deck.
-
You dare forgetting frogtal in :aether/ :life ? Willng gonna eat you !
-
I can't believe :death has so few votes! Bonebolt? Poison/Dim stall?
-
Yes for me death is the best btw (I didn't answered the question :p)
As you mentionned bonebolt and poison dim stall are awesome, also mummytal or fractal flash recluse are VERY goods deck.
-
The potential in Aether/Death wasn't truly unlocked until War 3, but even then only the ones who participated know its actual power. It's a bit underground, so to speak.
-
Antimatter + Phase Shield = Sitback and relax while watching you opponent creatures renegade...
-
:aether and :entropy are working wonders for me. pandemonim while your immortals are protected from it. its quite good.
-
I didn't pick death for this?
Wow, War #3 changed that for me... But no option to change vote =X
-

ikr? :P
:aether / :death is a scarily strong duo with lots of different builds (rushes, stalls, mid-range, charge).

Huh, just noticed I hadn't voted Death either :D
Also, if there wasn't an option to change/remove your vote before, it exists now.
-
Life for sure. By far because of Frogtal
-
Poll re-added~
-
For me and just me:
:air Because of Phase Spider's ability.
:time Cause I love Anubis!
:water Mind Flayer ftw!
-
:gravity+ :aether= I hit you, you can't hit me. I use Sapphire Chargers then turn them immortal with that magic juice. Therefore whatever shield the enemy has, it's useless and he/she can do nothing about it. Further more, I could Fractal the chargers if some aren't immortal yet to get more of them, though they won't be immortal.
:rainbow+ :aether= Play their own deck against them. For me, this is weak since it is unpredictable, sortof. In this deck I have 3 Dissipation Fields, which I target with Enchant Artifact, powered by 20 Quantum Pillars. I also include at least 1 Mindgate. Then at least 1 monster with an effect from each element to fill the slot for up to 30-35 cards.
:light+ :aether= Lobotomizer+Crusader+Fractal. Any method can be used to obtain :light. Solar Shield, pillars, pendulems.
These are the decks I play with :aether
-
The best compines about :aether is :darkness or :time
-
well i like :aether and :time cause of a favorie deck ScarabFractal
-
Well, there's Ghostmare (or rather, the reverse of Ghostmare where you fill YOUR hand with GotP), but I'm not a huge fan of that. I voted Light because of RoL/Hope. :) Voted Darkness because of Devtal, Time because of Scarabtal, Light because of RoL/Hope, Gravity because a few FGs use that duo excessively well, Water because of Mind Flayer, Air because of Phase Spider.
-
I voted for :death :entropy :time :water.
:death I like the bonebolt deck. It uses bone walls and thunderbolts to stay alive, and wins either with poison or fractalling something like a flesh recluse
:entropy I like playing quinted purple nymphs :)
:time I've GotP Time was a great deck, and ghostal will always have a special place in my heart after war 4
:water Mostly just because of mind flayer, which I like a lot more than lobotomizer for some reason
-
I picked 5 because these decks are all killer decks: bonebolt, ghostal, devtal, fractix, rol hope...
I think, :earth is a bit underrated in this voting, whole world would have been my sixth.
-
I voted for :light and :darkness, mostly because of Pestal and RoL/Hope. I agree fractal opens up alot of opportunities but I find these two the best combinations.
Most has been said already so I'll leave it at that.

Quintalled Mindlflayers are unstoppable
:water
-
Aether - Darkness. Best combination when you want to make your enemy rage quit because of that Fractaled Devourer.
-
Aether - Darkness. Best combination when you want to make your enemy rage quit because of that Fractaled Devourer.
I wouldn't call that a rage quit as much as choosing to not waste time. Once that lockdown sets in it's all over.
-
what IS a valid :earth :aether combo? silence, earthquake? Dim shield + stone skin?
-
I made a fractal gnome rider deck with SS and stone dragons before. Pretty fun.
-
#fractal anything
anything is viable :P -Higa
-
My favourite combo is Aether + death. No, NOT Death. I mean death. As in dead. As in I don't care what you put with Aether as long as it goes away. ;)
-
I did vote for :time
:time draw together with defence from :aether means that you will outpower your opponent in any long game
Fractal and Mindgate are strong draw aswell but they have more limited use than time. Besides how said you cant have both? :D
Only weakness this combo has is the lack of PC
-
My best deck is Aether Darkness even though I am not that experienced in the game. Throwing 3 steals, a nightmare, and a dusk mantle really improved my mono aether deck.
-
I don't really get that element. Its true it goes well with darkness.
-
I vote for :water, though I might be biased since I am a Water user, but Patient Sparks and Immortal Squids... Not to mention that immortal creatures don't drown...
-
Aether combines best with itself.
-
Aether combines best with itself.
All elements combines best with itself, but isn't it obvious that the thread is asking for a duo?
