Perhaps, but the right nerf in that case isn't to raise the price -- it's to have it drain the quanta of whatever creature you target rather than always your :aether quanta.
edit to above suggestion. While it makes sense and would weaken rushes, it would actually make RoLs a bit stronger, and not be much of an obstacle for devour/pest decks, which are in my opinion the most annoying uses for fractal.
It would most certainly hurt Fractal Pests, but indeed, it would not hurt Fractal RoL or destroy Fractal Phoenix with Cremations for that matter, IMO these three are the nastiest Fractal decks. So you would end up nerfing it for anything but the decks that made Fractal marked as OP. Aren't Fractal decks the foremost non-rainbow decks that farm fgs? That alone should be a clue.

I like the nerf. Fractal was too cheap for the card advantage it typically provided. Now it is closer to on par with Mindgate. (Although Fractal is still less expensive per card than Mindgate.)

People cried when the Sundial nerf kicked in, but we got used to it.
By ditching Sundial totally.

Not the particular change I'd have liked to see. Still think the number of copies should be based on quanta drained. Like Firebolt and Drain Life.

Still this will remove the ultralight grinders from the field and balance the shocking swing value of it a little. Might even make it a secondary card rather than key.

Add - The Point is Fractal was overpowered due to effect, not cost.

Of course. After the change I can only see it as a "finishing spell". Chimera-like, but still a lot better.

I see Sundial frequently in top50. It is not like it has been died out. It is just nowadays people are using rush decks or RoL. Maybe balancing fractal will even bring back some Sundial usage.

This honestly won't matter much for players in the upped environment, where it's very easy to get quanta. RoL/Hope will be slower, and lose a lot more to Seism, which sucks. It was nice to have an alternative to boring stallbows.
Unupped, it will probably see a bit less use. I expect Eternal Phoenix to be changed if this goes through, as powering Fractal by a x3 mark would not be sustainable anymore.

how wouldnt it be sustainable? EP hardly, if ever fractal on the fourth turn (when it has sufficient aether quanta)
usually it'll wait a few turns gaining 10++ quanta (due to clearing up its hand) before casting the first fractal
so the nerfing wont affect EP

it will affect Decay somewhat but i think its for the better since that SOB keeps chaining fractal like crazy as it is anyway

He's fine with using it when he has 4 cards or less in hand, and always uses it when he can afford the MP's, not the Fractal itself (which is why you can trick him into Fractalling RoL's instead). Since he gets plenty of :fire, it will slow him down a turn or two depending on draws, which will be disastrous.

Cost now offsets effect. Though it's a bit much. +1 would be much better than +2 in cost.

I think we can see who uses RoL/hope, pestal, or fractix based off reactions :P

I think, like kael, that an alteration to the effect would be better than the price increase- kael's idea, or ddevan's cap, would be good imo, though it's hard to say with just theory.
