Overview

Singularity is not a stand-alone card, instead being a creature that is summoned if a player plays 3 Novae or 2 Supernovae in one turn. Chaining Nova will create an unupped Singularity while Supernova creates an upped Singularity. These creatures are meant to hinder the user with their devastating passive ability.

General Use

Quick Facts:

  • Singularity is meant to slow down the user
  • Despite this "handicap", Singularity can be used effectively

At a glance, Singularity seems to only slow down and cripple down a player unless he or she can get rid of it quickly, and with 5hp and with the ability to clone or protect itself, that is no super-easy feat. However, clever users may notice that a free creature given without needing an extra card might come in handy. The main causes that a Singularity would be created in PvP would be that the user either has some quick card to deal with it such as Lightning, or is able to use the extra creature in a way to their benefit.

Synergies

The main reason Singularity was created was to stop players from chaining Supernova in one turn. However, crafty players will find ways to continue to chain Supernova for the earlier and faster quanta gain, but in that case, something needs to be done about the Singularity. Most control cards, such as Lightning, Reverse Time, and Freeze can act as very cheap spells that stop the Singularity from causing too much havoc while the user gets a quick quanta advantage. Cards that get rid of the Singularity instantly are preferred, such as Rage Potion since there is always the chance that the Singularity might start copying itself or causing all kinds of other problems. Basilisk Blood also provides the excellent combo with Catapult, allowing a user to create a Catapult OTK deck with literally 0 creatures since 2 Supernovas chained together will create a decent 5hp creature that can be used as fodder. Users who prefer more risk might also consider Gravity Pull, blocking some opposing creatures attacks as well as getting rid of this pest, although it is much more risky.

Most cards that get rid of the Singularity are pretty one dimensional, just removing it from play. While Immolation grants no quanta from sacrificing Singularity, Mutation does. Mutation allows for a much more devious combo, changing the newly gotten creature into free mutation material. A very quick and powerful combo can come from chaining Supernova, and then mutating it into a powerful mutant with an interesting ability fueled by the :rainbow quanta provided by Supernova. Nightmare can also be considered for a combo that fills the opponent's hand with creatures they can never play.

While Singularities themselves will cast Antimatter on themselves if their attack reaches positive, that is no problem for Chimera. By casting Chimera after a user has a field full of singularities, they can create a meat shield of decent size that keeps only the attack and HP of the singularities. Also, they can suddenly use Antimatter on their chimera for a very powerful attacker, usually inflicting an OTK. For such a strategy to happen though, the user must play accordingly and be able to stall or survive long enough to pull off the combo.

Other Cards With Synergy

In a way, Singularity's ability to copy itself makes it seem quite like Malignant Cell, perhaps why the combos that Singularity has resemble the ones that cell has. Otyughs can devour Singularity for a minor stat boost. Empathic Bond can be used for very quick passive healing and a field full of hard to get rid-of creatures, although one has to be careful with the negative vampire Singularities. As to how to stall with detrimental Singularities on the field, Sundial and Shard of Patience can be used to stop them from attacking (newly created Singularity still attack if a Shard of Patience is on the field), stopping their main negative aspect. A somewhat impractical combo can also occur by pairing Singularity with Amber Nymph or Black Hole, absorbing the Nova that Singularity casts upon the opponent.

Conclusion

Singularity is almost a textbook example of what not to do when playing Elements. That being said, decks devoted to the using of Singularity provides for plenty of entertainment and ingenuity.

As Singularity is not a stand-alone card, the decks listed below will contain decks with Supernova but making use of Singularity.
