Art request: High resolution Shard https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=32898.msg415530#msg415530
« on: October 25, 2011, 10:55:13 am »
I was going to do this myself, but if I could get someone else to do it, that would save me a lot of time, plus the results could be better. Lets see if we find someone who is interested.

For Quest/Lore purposes, we need 12 high resolution images of Shards. It can be vector or PNG, if it's the latter, then the length of the Shard should be at least 600px or something.

Idea is that these Shards will be arranged like this:

So the shape of the one end must be exactly 90 degrees so that there will be no gaps between the shards.

Other things:

- Shards must be colored to match their element. I also thing they should have some kind of a "water mark" or engraving of that element, but that can be done later.
- Shards must 3D so that the center part is higher than the rest, like in the picture:

If you help out, you will naturally be credited in the art section of WoE credits.

If anyone is interested, please let me know or post your suggestions here.

Are you asking for new images of shards, or an edit of the current ones?

I'm not 100% sure what you are asking because I don't know what you mean by "current ones", but I naturally need an image (or 12 images) of Shards that can be arranged to form that specific shape.

By current I mean the ones that are in the game.

Doesn't really matter how the images are produced, but I cannot see how you could just edit the current images because they are lower resolution. What needs to be done is either paint the thing from scratch, or trace the current image.

I've just put this up quickly:

and i'm working on making it look smoother, more shardly and less plain.
Some questions about it:
The mark placement is alright?
What colours would you prefer for the different elements?

Im also thinking about using kami's vector marks and removing the mark bg, leaving the icon only.
edit: woops! its too big, i didn't realize xD
edit2: Okey, i resized it in the forums, but the original one is much much larger.

Nice. That is pretty much perfect.

I think the shape, smoothness, etc. is perfect. Only things left are the color and the elemental "water mark".

The color you used might be a bit too bland. Something more saturated, might work better, although too saturated might make it look like candy.

The elemental icon I had there in the example was just an example. The idea was to do as you said, which is to remove the background and use the stamp thing only, although in cases like :earth , that would be less than epic. That stamp thing has to be much bigger too.

I made the final shape as an example. Looks pretty good imo. In the middle there will be a... thing. I do not know yet what that thing is, but it's probably going to be a gem or something.

Hmm.. I think I'm starting to hate the more saturated colors already..

The center should be the crown of Underworld or something relating to them I'd say.

Yeah, that's a cool shard. I was making one but it turned out horrible...so yeah. I think the 2nd format looks better, the one that looks like an X.
