WoE Alpha https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=16910.msg216250#msg216250

WoE Closed Alpha starts "soon".
Zomg, it's starting!

WoE alpha will start in a week. Yes, many things are still under development, but I think that if we roll up our sleeves and do some slaving, we will be able to get the alpha going. I personally will work a lot on WoE during the next week so it should be fine.

For alpha we will use the left half of the map. This means hexes 1-80. Rest of the map will not be used.

We are going to use a very simple system of one PNG image where we will move around icons that represent players. This will be done by me. So basically after each round, I will manually move the icons and post a new image on the forums.

We will have 6 elements, and 3 players each. This means a total of 18 players. Anyone reading this will be able to participate. If we need more players, we will recruit more.

Some features will not be used in alpha. More information about that later.

There will be a beta after alpha. Beta will have more content and more features.

If you have any questions, let me know.

If you could add the cities in whatever forum area that will be used for this Beta, City Designers can add the basic buildings in (Tavern, Bank, Merchant Shop).

Does this mean I should start building diolougue for the cities? (i.e. shopkeepers)

Actually the way it's going to work is that Mrs. World of Elements will start all the building topics. That's an alter ego of mine. It's better that way because we don't confuse people with multiple different organizers starting topics.

Here's World of Elements in action: http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/board,292.0.html

Sorry to disappoint you but this will be done by the writers. City Builders are in charge of designing:

A) What kind of buildings cities have
B) what do these buildings do

All the writing will be done by writers.

Still being the only non playing NPC... could I get access to quests? If any quest is involving NPCs anyway  :)) Beta should show us how difficult NPC decks should be (or in other words, how strong players decks will be).

Done.

Feel free to post any ideas or suggestions on any topics. It's still a bit chaotic but we'll get there. There has been some ideas about NPC's, and we'll probably need a bunch for beta.

About this, my apprentice (mentoring program) is planning on applying for NPC. Just a heads up in case we need another ;)

Also, How will we be deciding who's on what element? I'm assuming you will be in charge of that?

Sorry to disappoint your apprentice but it's highly unlikely that we would use any non-veterans as NPC's. We need reliability and tons of cards. New members often lack at least one of those.

If you are talking about beta, I'll let people pick their element but will probably have to assign some if one element is not getting a full team.

In the real event itself, players are free to pick whichever element they want.

What happens if there are 15 :darkness players and only 2-3 :life players? I ask because in any siege system, or any form of group PvP, :life is going to be at a very serious disadvantage, regardless of allies.

We will use all kinds of dirty tricks to gently push players towards less popular elements. For example:

- making less popular elements cool
- giving them better fast travel etc.
- giving them better skills
etc.

These tweaks will be so small that they are hardly noticeable, but might help elements like :gravity get more players.

One big bonus for joining a smaller element is that the cash generated by your element gets divided by all the players in that element. If you are the only :gravity player, you will get a huge pay day each round.

But we might have some kind of system to prevent huge unbalance. For example close recruiting of an element that has much more players than other elements. We'll see..
