Silly forum names are difficult to avoid, considering the forum name is set in stone. There will really be no way to deal with this....

While we're on the topic of names though, we should have the character sheet display the user's chat name and ign. I'm also thinking that the user should be able to customize their character sheet to some point, like jus pit their favorite element on it or a little bio perhaps? Something to make it less foreboding.

chat name and ign don't help much because Character Sheet will be invisible to anyone outside the team. Of course we could have some kind of simplified public version of it somewhere.

A bio sounds good. Would also help role-players.

Just looking at things from a story point, if we have the same player names as forum names, then every single time that player plays they play the same person.

E.G, Gl1tch from war 1 says hello to Gl1tch from war 5.  Plus, if characters who do well remain in the environment, there will be dopplegangers running around.

Alright, so it goes like this.  Team fire wins war 1, and their master "kevkev" gets  an honorary title in game.  Then, when world 2 comes around, is "kevkev" still fighting, or is kevkev's character a different person, also named "kevkev".  What about when war 5 happens?

Yeah.. still not getting what you mean. WoE and War are totally separate events, if that helps at all?

Hmmm, think of it this way.

Say I, "Gl1tch" do so well in WoE that I get my reputation with life to 100.  As a reward for one of my quests, I become the "king" of life.  All hail king "Gl1tch"

When WoE two comes around, my character is still named "Gl1tch" we have a problem.  Are there just two people named "Gl1tch", or am I playing the same person who became king the WoE before.  And, when WoE five comes around, is "Gl1tch" really old?  Am I "Gl1tch" number five?  Has no time passed between any of them?

I think it's more a matter of how serious we take the story. If the storyline is just some little backdrop to add a little flavor to a forum event, then it won't really matter who is named what. But if this is going to be a living storyline and people want to take the story seriously, having "8675309, Lord of Tommy Tutones" will not seem creditible, especially if it's the same person over several turns of the story.

Somewhat.  Think of Legend of Zelda.  Every game there's a new "918273645".  Is the forum player "918273645" playing a new in-game character, who just happens to have the exact same name as the forum player "918273645"'s last character?  Or is the forum playing the same in-game character across WoEs?

Yeah but you don't make a new character, you continue with the character you had previously, just like in an MMO.

Yeah but you don't make a new character, you continue with the character you had previously, just like in an MMO.

OOoookay.  But does your reputation reset?  And lets say someone plays for 10 WoE straight, does that mean their in-game character is just really old?  And what happens if, as a reward for winning WoE1, the character becomes the king of gravity?  Do they start WoE2 as the king of gravity?
