Title: [OUTDATED] Do you understand the WoE rules?
Post by: TimerClock14 on January 23, 2011, 01:59:23 am
This post is really old and may, but probably won't be updated by the time the event launches.

I get the basic concepts (i.e. trading, crafting, movement, quests), but the AP and combat systems make my head spin.

Quote
10.3 Peace
Two Kings can declare peace, if the following minimum requirements are met:

1. Players from the elements in question have not fought each other for at least 12 rounds
2. ***
Is #2 to be decided by the people agreeing to peace?

Every thing else was crystal clear.

I'm confused on a few points, but I think most of them are just due to it being a bit of a WIP still.

Many of the skills etc. aren't clear yet. As an example, the :air skill tree says they can build windmills on plains spaces, but it doesn't seem to say anywhere what a windmill does.

Similarly, it says that the rare/non-rare cards are different, but it doesn't explicitly say which ones are rare (some of this can be inferred from the craft skills).

Are there other ways to gain XP from those listed? (quest rewards etc)

What do the different types of terrain do?

Who controls NPCs? Is it the moderators or people from that element?

When trying to declare peace, what happens if there is a single player who keeps attacking the other element, or something similar? Is there any way an element can "exile" a troublesome player?

Yeah I read some of the rules and it's pretty straightforward.
I can't wait for it to come out!

I feel we need an Alpha player's opinion on this.

Are they confusing?  Yes.

Are they going to change?  Yes.

After some trouble in Alpha, rule changes are going to be made, including cutting out some of the fat that already exists.  Overall, though, it's pretty easy to understand once you figure out that your Character Sheet will become your life.

It sounds quite simple but probably isn't >_>

Another Alpha players' opinion:
My main problem is to find what I look for, I don't know how to do X or the reward for achieving Y. I kind of understand them when I find them, but the rules are incomplete atm so it's too hard to tell.

Another Alpha player's opinion:

The rules are really easy to navigate through from the start, what with that nifty table of contents and all, but the sheer length of some of the sections is daunting. A lot of the time I'll find my self tripping over words in confusion. The most confusing part, imo, would definately be the action points and the skills. It says that some skills require more than 3 Action points, but it says that you only get 3 action points per round.

once the rules are complete, i suggest we revisit this poll.

I don't get how any non :earth gets a weapon of their element.

I don't get how any non :earth gets a weapon of their element.
Did you mean "any non  :fire"?

If SG keeps the rules allowing salvaging after wins, that would be one way. Assuming you don't want to pick up the weaponsmith skill yourself, you could still just trade with a player that does have it. There will also be that global auction house, in which I imagine rares will be the primary commodity.

WoE is in alpha and the rules are not even close to being ready, therefore it's pointless to ask users if they understand them or not. It's like taking a half-finished car, that doesn't even have wheels, from the assembly line and asking potential customers to take the car for a spin. With some people you get one chance, and if you ask them to read the rules now and find the messed up navigation and all the contradictory information, they might skip reading the rules (or joining the event) next time we ask them.

Once the rules have been finalized, I will make much simpler and better version of them and a short summary.

Conclusion: Do not read the rules just yet.
