Title: Elemental Armor
Post by: DoctorC on November 19, 2017, 05:15:14 pm
Hi. Little over two months ago we've created for ourselves a mannequin couple (male on the left and female on the right) for us to play with. Result was finished tonight with 12 different armor sets for each element of EtG. It was a lot of fun and in general fun (and surprisingly short) project for us to work on. Still, though, we really like how most of these turned out and would like to share the result with all of you. Enjoy.

First in both EtG and Elemental Armor project, we really wanted to establish a "middle point" for ourselves, designing a set that would be just as tangible and versatile in usage as Entropy itself. And while the armor set doesn't contain any of the vibes of chaos and randomness that Entropy itself has, this turned out to be a design that wouldn't look out of place in whatever RNG decides for you to get.

Death armor was an interesting mix between royal (although desaturated) colors and a type of armor that is best described as a hazmat suit. We combined some of the ideas from actual hazmat suits people use nowadays, some of the ones that were used back in the days of Black Death (pun intended) as well as some bits of dark grey armor, which goes nicely with desaturated purple and bone colors. One thing we couldn't figure out how to do is how to add necromantic portion of Death as an element, but we still are pretty happy with the result.

 :gravity Gravity Armor :gravity

Gravity was tough due to us not really being experienced in drawing very big and heavy armored suits and stuff. We had to tweak a lot of things before finally deciding to throw it away completely. =D
Arguably, we could use more bronze armor color as oppose to dark silver, so to not throw away the color scheme of bronze/orange/whatever else, but we decided against that, ending up only using bronze for Titan and Gravity Shield (which was reworked completely due to us not liking the original version).

 :earth Earth Armor :earth

Following the heavy armor theme from Gravity (Which isn't true in the makings of the project; Earth was made long before Gravity), we've tried to make this stand out more in the context of Gravity by adding a lot of earth-based additions, such as Stone Skin representation or bear skin, along side the Titanium Shield and Pulverizer.

Straying away from heavy armor, we have a nice bit of green Life Armor. Utilizing one of our favorite color synergies, gold and green, we've made a nice druidic look for Life Armor. Coats and jackets worked out really good to set the image of a druid. And just to have little more detail that connects the armor to its element, we added a flower to the female mannequin.

 :fire Fire Armor :fire

Probably the least armor on an armor set we've got is on Fire armor. Fire is an incredibly brittle element in the game, so we wanted to translate it in the armor as well, and by having very light set, which mostly consists of clothes as oppose to metal gear, we think we've achieved it. One of the things that really stand out to is the dragon head, which in our thinking process was appropriate due to Fire having the strongest creature currently in the game.

A'ight, here's where things got a little more interesting. Because of Water being very versatile element, as well as holding a place of a key to the coolest creatures in the game - Nymphs, we decided to split Water into two different sets - winter-esk gear to survive in cold climates for male mannequin and nymph-like slim armor for female one. Now, I'm not sure how well we executed the Ice Armor, but I really like the look of Water Armor.

 :light Light Armor :light

Light, as expected, brought a lot of armor, being one of the sturdiest elements in EtG. What wasn't so fun in it, is the fact that Light has three different shields, which was a challenge to joggle. However, by making Hope a mantle, we feel like it has become a little easier for us. Still, I like how Light Armor turned out (even though we cheated by using gradients).

 :air Air Armor :air

Air Armor, amongst a lot of things, was a good practice for us to draw wings. Add that to a pretty light set of armor, and we got a nice suit for a flying archer.

 :time Time Armor :time

Time Armor is probably the most unusual one out of the 12 we've made today. It combines some of the design aspect shown by egyptian soldiers, bits and pieces of Mortal Kombat characters and the collar of Time Lords from Doctor Who. And while it is weird to look at, I still feel like we've managed to joggle them pretty well.

 :darkness Darkness Armor :darkness

Darkness is based on hiding, stealing and confusing your opponents. What can possibly go better with it than a nice dark cloak-mantle-thingy? We also used a very, very successful colorscheme, for which we combined dark red and dark green to add some color, resulting in the entire suit having almost flower-like vibe. In fact, we did name this set of armor "Dark Rose" because of how surprisingly well it turned out.

 :aether Aether Armor :aether

And last but not least, we've got Aether Armor, which we just finished few hours before writing this entire page of stuff. We're pretty proud of how Aether turned out, even though some of the things might have probably been reworked. One of particularly exciting parts was that we got to play with vrt's drawing of Phase Shield (which, on its own, was fricking fantastic), but also adding it to the entire set.

So, that's essentially it. We're probably not gonna stop using our mannequin couple, but we're definitely gonna take a break from them for a while, due to some of cooler stuff we want to work on. Cheers for reading this far, grab yourself a cookie. c:

I’m so obsessed with the wings on the Air armor. Amazing job, Doc!

Awesome work Doc! I like the detail on the time and air soldiers especially. Would love to see a war between these guys!
Interesting that the spaulder is on the fire soldier's left side though, despite them being apparently left-handed.

We were going for a nice split complement color scheme, of blue/teal + orange. That said, I see where you're coming from. Perhaps light blue would be better idea than teal.

We're a bunch of amateurs that have no idea what we're doing. xD

Thanks though c:

Fair play, this is really well done.
